What constitutes a "good game" re:consistancy? (1 Viewer)

As we all know, some fantasy players are more consistant than others. In some shape or form, we take this into account when drafting players, either consciously or subconsciously.

What do you use for your criteria for Quarterbacks?

300 yds passing AND/OR 2 touchdowns?

What do you use for your criteria for Running Backs?

100 yds rushing/total yards AND/OR 1 touchdown(s)?

What do you use for your criteria for Wide Receivers/Tight Ends?

100 yds receiving/total yards AND/OR 1 touchdown(s)?

Or are you a person that does not care how they get their points as long as they score a certain number of points per game?

PPG is what wins. Like L Jordan, his stats per game dont look all that good but he was a very solid FF RB. Its all about points to me..

In terms of consistancy QB has to do it everyweek. RB's have to be very consistant also. Wr's are alittle less anyway

100 yards, 1 TD per game, leading to as total of 1600 total yards and 16 td's. If a running back or WR had that, I'd draft him first for the RB, and probably 2nd round for the WR.

WR=4 catch games and 100 yard games

QB-300 yard games and 250 yard games also # of under 200 yard games

RB 100 yard games and 18+ carry games

TE 4 catch games and 80 yard games

TDs, for me, don't need to be dissected anymore with 16 games the total is easily divisible and the results are obvious.

what do you mean about WRs? They're less consistent or they don't have to be as consistent?

Besides a handfull of the top 5-7 WR's most are less consistant. I expect my Rb's too be more consistant. Like if D-Jax is your 2nd WR i would expect less out of him than a westbrook or DD as my #2 RB

What I like to do - every year - is to look at a player "Starter/Bench/None" percentage of games... explanations:

Suppose you play in a 12 teams 1QB league... that amounts to 12 starting QBs and 12 bench QBs (depending on roster depth)... For every week, I list the top12 (and top24) QB FFPts and then I can look at a guy's "consistency rating"...

For example, last year (in the [DYNASTY] format in my signature) - we have, top10:

(tier1 - tier2 - %start - name)

12 2 87.5% Alexander, Shaun RB SEA

9 5 87.5% Palmer, Carson QB CIN

9 5 87.5% Johnson, Chad WR CIN

11 2 81.3% Fitzgerald, Larry WR ARI

9 4 81.3% Holt, Torry WR STL

10 2 75.0% Johnson, Larry RB KC

10 2 75.0% Boldin, Anquan WR ARI

9 3 75.0% Galloway, Joey WR TB

8 4 75.0% James, Edgerrin RB IND

6 6 75.0% Moss, Santana WR WAS

4 8 75.0% Branch, Deion WR NE

10 1 68.8% Smith, Steve WR CAR

Surprinsingly enough - Deion Branch is seen here... but when you look deeper into his game log (remember it's a PPR league):

7/99/1

8/60/0

6/78/0

1/6/0

8/107/0

7/87/0

bye

3/92/1

5/58/1

5/82/0

5/38/1

5/49/0

5/44/0

5/83/0

2/27/0

4/69/0

2/19/1

you can clearly see that he was one of the most consistent players last year...

If that's what you are looking for (consistency over potential)... he can be a steal...

My 2 cents

Therein lies my question. What is your threshold for consistancy using PPG? What exactly constitutes "doing it"?

Sorry to add in the "It depends" answer, but it depends on your league scoring system. IMO....Consistency is very much underrated in FF. One or two great games can really make certain players look better than they are. Especially at this time of year...many folks just look at Player X's 2005 stats.

Since most league play H2H on a weekly basis, I spend a lot of time trying to find "Consistent players". Afterall, you don't get more wins for crushing an opponent in just one game. The scoreboard goes back to 0-0 to start the next week.

Somewhat guesses for standard performance league. I would be interested to see any statistics though.

275/2 for QBs

100/1 for RBs

100/1 for WRs

90/1 for TEs

7 pts for PK

10 pts for DST

Just simply rank them on their FF weekly points scored against the rest of their peers. It's really not rocket science. Think of the same prinicples of VBD.

That is simply ranking players by PPG, not trying to analyze consistancy. One or two big games can skew PPG with a smaller sample size.

I guess what I am saying is....If you play in a 10 team league:

Then your expectations should be that:

Your QB1 ranks in the top 10 for Points Scored

Your RB1 ranks in the top 10 for Points Scored

Your RB2 ranks in the top 20 for Points Scored

Your WR3 ranks in the top 30.

etc...etc

Obvisously this is an over simplification, but this is where I start.
