What do you do when you hate your team (redraft) (1 Viewer)

I dont love my team. Walked out of the draft thinking it was OK. Now, I hate it. Its usually the opposite for me. Hate my team after draft and then do really well.

I will not give my lineup since this is more of a general question not a ploy to have a AC thread in shark pool clothing

I can make deals but am having a tough time finding teams that need what I have and have what I need

What do you usually do when you are in this situation (outside of trading guys for picks if your redraft allows that)

This early there is a lot of unknown information that hasn't played out yet. At some point (week 4) strength of schedule will be available and you can look forward to see who the undervalued heroes might be. Trade your known value now for what you are rolling the dice on in the future that's a good value now. It's a lot of work but it pays off every year if you can find somebody to trade with you. It might seem like you're giving the farm away but sometimes it's the only way to motivate another team to make a trade.

My one redraft team sucks. I've got a nice core but losing Dez Bryant put a gaping hole in my roster. And I've been starting the wrong guy in my lineup each week. Guess I have to give myself an F grade for mismanagement. I've been trying to trade for an upgrade at RB, but the only trade partner who will listen only wants to fleece me. I will probably come on with a strong finish only to finish 7-7 or 6-8 and out of the money. Sigh.

Glad to know Im not alone

I go for long walks on the beach and watch the sunset, grateful for all the little things in my life.

JFC man, hit the waiver wire.

If EG didnt get blasted when he tried it, I would post all rosters in here and allow the pool to help bring my team the championship

I thought it was a brilliant thread by EG and the poor guy got blasted like he started a FFA thread in the Shark Pool

There is nothing on the waiver wire
I agree with BobbyLane. Consider it a gift. Keep putting in a lineup each week and check the standings every Tuesday. Outside of that, be grateful that you don't have to be a stat slave, scouring the waiver wire, analyzing matchups, watching tv and computer all sunday long. Enjoy life again

Conversely, what do you do when you love the team you drafted and hate the first two weeks of production?

In past years I'd just keep rolling them out week in week out. Sooner or later they'll progress to their mean.

Maybe I'm just feeling sassy or been playing for too long and just don't GAF anymore, but right now I'm considering:

Starting: Benjamin, David Johnson, Ebron, Matt Jones

Benching: Tate, Forsett, Kelce, Abdullah

I'll probably come to my senses before Sunday but the random weekly outcomes kind of drives me nuts sometimes.

Back to OP topic: keep working. Don't need to go 11-2 to win a title, sometimes you hit on everything and it all craps out in December. I've seen plenty of teams sneak in at 8-5/7-6 and then run the table. Never give up.

Well if you really just want to renew your interest and like your team again...

Make aggressive trade offers, even if you're 50/50 on them. But target players you really like and would feel excited to have on your team. Ideally you target 0-2 teams or 1-1. Assuming you have a decent amount of bench spots, pickup guys who you feel like can explode if they get playing time, lottery tickets > guy who's maybe going to be worth a flex spot if he has a good week.

Just make some gutsy calls in general with trades, waivers, lineups, etc.

One mans Trash is another mans Treasure..

Id keep an eye out for Teams that need management.. I believe sometimes there is money Leagues w/ fees waived ..

But yeah I just keep researching players on the wire..

Is WR your weakest position?

Im just speculating because my teams been RB hungry for yrs, but I came in 2nd last yr..

IF CMike hits, ya should be able to trade either your RB2 or RB3 w/ a lesser WR for a nice upgrade at WR

I would say WR is my second weakest spot after QB

Ouch I thought of that while writing about WR too..

Lets hope some Guru has some solid advice.. This is a start one QB L:eague right?

I dont want to get into specifics on my team. Was really just seeing if people said screw it, Im out or was there another way to enjoy a down season

Funny how a couple weeks in, injuries, guys emerging, guys disappearing can really make a good fantasy team (on paper) seem like hot garbage.

Ona my teams I have Romo, Brees, Dez, Demarco, Alf......I also have a few guys who are actually putting up points and not hurt.....but, yea I get ur point. I liked my draft.....now I hate my team! U play the wire and hope for the best.

U never give up! Seriously, I play with friends and/or people I generally respect. I guess if ur in like 50 leagues and it's some random one......I dunno, I think u still never give up!

I feel the same way about my team honestly. My bench is a hot mess and I've missed out on all the good wire adds so far. Even worse is that literally no one ever wants to trade. Just gotta keep on trucking and taking fliers on guys and hope it pays off.

From the non-roster advice angle... maybe try some trash talk. Just because you're down doesn't mean you have to be out. "I know my team sucks but so did <other owner's> mother last night." Ok, maybe not that, but you get the picture. Just make it light-hearted, clear that you're having fun with it. Also in that vein, if you just are looking for something to help keep you interested in that league, maybe start kicking out a weekly article about the league.

On the roster advice, one suggestion I might have is if pursuing specific trades or types of trades (RB for WR) aren't working, try going in really really general. "Hey, looking to mix up my roster a bit. I was just curious, which of my players do you like the best? Maybe we'll find something our views differ enough a trade would work well." A lot of people view a trade as you trying to take something that is theirs. Approaching them in a way that focuses them immediately on what they might get before you even bother getting to what they might give up, could help open them up to possibilities.

Beyond that, just stay up on the injury news and happenings and don't be afraid to take chances on waivers. Good luck with it GB.

If you hate your team, analyze how you put it together and figure out what you could have done differently. Try to learn a lesson on how you built your roster so you don't repeat it next year.

And if you're looking for ideas for this year's team, I'd say, "Horde QBs". They seem to be dropping like flies. If you pick up guys who are scrubs (and are able to roster them), you might find a contender who loses someone like Romo or Brees who is desperate enough to trade for said scrubs.

It's too early to tell first off, but week two gave many of us chances to buy low on lots of players that wouldn't have been available weeks ago.

One strategy would be to stack. Buy low on an entire offense. Luck is "available." Get him, pair with TY and Gore.. Chip Kelly and his system that made everyone on the team a top-10 option predraft are rightfully being dropped. Gamble and go all in(I wouldn't, just an example). Get Wilson and Jimmy. Whatever.. It's an option that hadn't been presented.

Why do you hate your team?

I have found that when I draft players that I do not really like because they are too valuable for me to pass up at the place I drafted them, I tend to have better teams when that happens.

When I draft a team of players that I really like? I will hit on a few of those players that were undervalued by the general view, but I will also end up with players that do not meet my optimistic expectations for them. Maybe a player who I don't particularly like would have been a better option.

There has only been two weeks of games played. Things change.

You could post the roster in the AC thread and people could look at that if they wanted to know more details about the specifics of this situation.

If you don't like your team because of things other than how they are currently performing, like my first example. then trade some of those players for players you do like.

I guess I need more information about why you hate about your team before I could suggest ways to change it.

Teams that I have drafted and hated I think usually perform a bit better than teams I love have.

Post it in the Asst Coach Forum and put a link here

I started 0-6 in my local a few years back with bad beats every week. It was hard but I worked the WW, made a couple of trades, waited for guys to get healthy and finished 7-6, only to lose in the first round of the playoffs. So much of it is stupid luck but I had a lot of fun that year.

Love the stack suggestion. Somebody did exactly that in my long-time 2QB auction league this week. He now has Peyton, Demaryius, Sanders, Hillman; first three are presumed every week starters, Hillman is his RB3. Yowza!

My 2 suggestions:

1. Stop taking value players when you draft/auction and instead (reasonably) reach for the guys you want. I find it makes you hate your team a lot less, even when they don't succeed because they are "your guys." Don't overdo this, but lean towards it in terms of general philosophy at the draft.

2. Limit yourself to 10-team leagues with max 15-16 roster spots. It makes the waiver wire a lot more influential and interesting, and allows you to rebuild when draft errors and injuries strike.

Whether or not the many "pros" here want to admit it, we all have been in this situation before.

(let's face it, if you listen to most here they A- Never lose, B- Always have the hot waiver wire commodity, and C- They have the worst luck on Planet Earth) :excited:

Posts like this interest me, simply because I have been in the exact same scenario myself many times.

2 things -

#1 - This year I am in 4 redraft leagues, all of the 15 spot/shorter bench variety. We start 3WRs everywhere, but basically we have 6 bench spots, and that often makes those spots valuable, even moreso when the byes start strangling owners.

Point is, I even went so far as to say during my last draft outright to a friend that "I HATE my team".

Said team has Tom Brady on it, and Alfred Morris..........one on each side of the spectrum currently. I also am off to a 2-0 start, so you never really know to be honest.

We do work the waiver a fair bit, and you never know who will be the next CJ Anderson, or something similar.

Know right now that there will be someone to emerge, if not 3 or 4 often 1 or 2 at each position. WRs and RBs as well.

#2 -

In my very first year of FF, in the only league I tried, I found myself 0-4 after week 4. I hadn't watched the NFL in many years and didn't have much clue at that point, but all I knew is I had to "turn it around" somehow.

Before I knew it, I found myself "streaming defenses" out of necessity, in an effort to get points any way I could. This was 10 years ago before you ever heard the phrase "streaming defenses".

I then cranked off 10 wins in a row, made the playoffs 10-4 to the surprise of everyone in the league.

The lesson learned here is, you never know whats going to happen.

The most satisfying win ever to me was last year with a team that looked all but out of it with 4 weeks left.

If you snag one of those, everything changes when you find yourself 3-3 in week 6 and you stumbled on that golden lottery ticket.

(for those interested in the 10-4 team, I got beat in the first round of the playoffs......FF sucks sometimes) :D

I'd be interested in seeing your lineup, but if you don't want to post it here, drop it in the ASST Commish section. (I have responded a bit there in a few threads)

Post a link here, or shoot me a PM.

Unlike many here, I am interested in this team and as to why you are not enthused.

TZM

watch more hockey, drink more, sleep with their wives (players or league mates), pick up everyone's hand cuff and offer them when a starter gets hurt, lose your password.

,

FWIW, i hate my team as well. But that's because my WRs suck balls: Dez, Andre Johnson, Moncrief, Wright, D Adams, John Brown

Enough people asked which leads me to think they are interested. If the kids want to move to AC, I uunderstand.

It is really an issue of not being able to keep up with the top couple of teams bc I don't have the consistent WRs. Add to that the fact that I traded woodhead and Gates for eifert and just last week traded matt Jones and Steve Smith for Mike Wallace (serious regret) and it bums me out.

I will also say that for the past 7 years or so, I played the zero RB strategy. My recievers were always studs but I got burned out trying to guess which ww RB was going to hit. So I went RB-RB this year. Results are meh

QB- Dalton and Foles (drafted stafford, traded him and CJ Anderson for Lacy)

RB- Lynch, Lacy, A Foster, D Lewis, F Jax, Starks, C Mike, Josh Robinson, C Mike

WR- Hopkins, Landry, A Robinson, M Wallace, Perriman (just dropped T Lockett)

TE- Eifert (dropped Ebron who I drafted)

Td, chiefs and K j brown

You blow it up. Last year I started the season 0-2. I traded away my high-profile early picks for players like LeVeon Bell who started out great but people were still uncertain if they would continue. And I went on to win the title.

I was expecting a 10 bagger. What's so bad about this?

Very interesting. Only downside is that if he's already 0-2, he'll likely be guaranteed a loss during that specific's team bye week putting him in a 0-3 hole. But at the same time it gives him a leg up during other weeks so it's definitely an intriguing suggestion.
