What do you guys know about Dan Orlovsky? (1 Viewer)

Texans coach Gary Kubiak didn't waste time in finding his replacement for traded backup quarterback Sage Rosenfels. On Sunday, the Texans reached a three-year agreement with Lions backup Dan Orlovsky. According to a source, Orlovsky agreed to a three-year deal worth $8.5 million. Kubiak selected Orlovsky over Broncos backup Patrick Ramsey.
I know absolutely nothing about this guy. What I DO know though, is that with Thyme Rosenfels gone, Matt Slob couldn't play 16 games in a row if he was playing Yahtzee. So, I'm hoping this guys' good. The fact that he's a backup to an 89 year old suggests otherwise though.

I imagine it's pretty hard to judge a player but what they accomplish in their time served in Detroit.

Agreed. That said, Orlovsky was not terrible last year. He was about as good as Tyler Thigpen, so your mileage may vary on that :stirspot: .

He's a more than capable backup. He was able to get the ball to Calvin, so I wouldn't be worried if you own AJ. In fact I would be happy that Sage was replaced with Dan-O.

I believe he's polish.Sorry for the hijack, I don't have much to say about him, so I probably shouldn't have said anyting.
I could be wrong, but I thought the 'ski' name is commonly polish, but the 'sky' name is commonly russian. Either way it doesn't mean anything unless a senator from Wisconsin decides to question his loyalty to America.

i thought Orlovsky was the best QB on the roster in Detroit last year. I don't understand why they didn't re-sign him and let him start while waiting for their next franchise QB to develop on the sidelines. I thought Orlovsky and Calvin had a great rapport.

He stepped out of the back of the end zone on a play this past season.
That's about all I remember. - In a game they ultimately lost 12-10. If that's the case, he's pretty much a great way to replace Sage. - Who was also capable of some boneheaded stunts in close games. At least it'll be exciting. He's good for at least 3-4 starts with Sage AlwaysFalls at the helm.

Witty nickname but Orlovsky is replacing Rosenfels who was traded to the Vikings meaning Orlovsky is backing up Schaub.

If you are going to be insulting at least get the current Houston QB right.

Awww, are you insulted? :excited:  Okay, how about I replace that with 'Matt Slob'? - Both 2nd string nobody's. - They're interchangeable.

Your posting is speaking for itself, so I won't attempt to explain the difference between being "insulted" and being "insulting." It really won't matter.

The first snap he took in over a year was at Minnesota from the one yard line against a very good Viking line. It might have been a "boneheaded" play, but no more boneheaded than the people who continually point it out as if it has any bearing whatsoever on his ability to be a decent QB.

I really don't know what I'm missing here with Dan Orvlovsky.

He was very very clearly Detroit's most successful QB last year, and he comes at a cheap price. Yeah, he stepped out of the back of the endzone, but anyone using that as a barometer for how he played last year is just being a smartass.

Detroit didn't win a game last season, but they definitely were at their best Orvlovsky in there. In 4 of the 8 games he played in they lost by one score or less, and in 6 of the 8 games they lost by two scores or less. In the 8 games that the other QBs played they only lost by one score or less 1 time.

Also, keeping that in mind in Orvlovsky's 8 games, only ONE of those games came against a team below .500 (Green Bay).

I didn't know free agents could be traded. What did the Lions get in return?
He wasn't traded. They got nothing in return. Anyone smarter than me know if the Lions are eligible for a compensitory pick next year? I have no idea how that system works.ETA: I just noticed the thread has that in the title. It's an error.

Det either likes what they have in Stanton or they see Stafford as a franchise QB and are making room.

I'd rather have either one of those guys over Orvlovsky.
