He was top 5 in the rankings and I did not get to watch the game but his overall stats were horrid. Anybody have any insight on what the situation for NYJ nonexistent running game.

I just saw tidbits, but they fell behind and abondoned the run (Washington had several catches).

Awful gameplan by Mangini -

Buf controlled the game - Jets were in hurry up most of the game for some reason and as such Leon got a lot more work.

I am still high on TJ - will get 20 plus carries after Mangini watches the tapes and sees they cant rely on Chad - plus he is the man at the GL - his value is rock bottom - I would grab him now before he pops a few in. Could land him for #3/4 RB price and will end up a decent #2 IMO.

Well they play the Giants this week and I'm not sure if its a good matchup or not. I've tried to be patient with TJ but nothing is happening at he's costing me games here :excited:

as stated before...Jones is a guy who thrives in the 16-24 carries range...

He is good at reading Ds and Reacting...wearing them down and then making his big plays. Limiting him to 12 carries really hurts his production and YPC...

Weren't the Bills like dead last or something in run D? Uh.... hello Mr. Mangini? You think you could run the ball more than 15 times?

I've been saying this since the day the Jets aquired TJ.... this O line can't run block, and Jones can't fix that problem. In 1 out of 30 carries a Jets' RB has a hole big enough to get through the LoS cleanly. The rest of the time, the RB has to run through trash. It doesn't help that Pennington can't stretch the field either. Play action only works when the offensive line can open some holes on occassion. The Jets' O line can't. Oh, yeah, and D'Brickshaw Ferguson is now, in my opinion, officially a bust based on being a number 4 overall draft pick. He is a below average LT. Only Mangold is an above average O lineman, the rest are below, and in some spots, like RT and LG, well below average.... flat out stinky.

As far as the game plan goes, the one thing that both Mangold and Ferguson excell at is pulling and blocking in space, and the Jets refuse to use that stregnth, for the life of me, I don't know why not. This game plan against Buffalo was classic "play not to lose" crap. Herm Edwards showed me how flawed that strategy is, yet coaches still do it at an alarming frequency.

 They really felt like the Herm Edwards Jets yesterday. More toss plays where TJ can get wide with some lead blockers is definitely what the doctor ordered.

I'm a fan of TJ and have actually been trying to buy low on him since week 1. But, what makes people think things are goign to get turned around for the Jets? People keep making suggestions, but they really aren't any different than the suggestions made 1, 2, and 3 weeks ago. Buffalo has an awful run D. This should have been the week TJ broke out. What makes anyone think Mangina is going to figure it all out and change his entire game plan?

Oct 10.

RB Thomas Jones (NYJ) said he spent most of the second half and the critical fourth quarter Sunday wondering if the Jets were going to be able to pull out a victory. He wound up doing very little to influence the outcome as he had only three carries in the second half. "Most feature backs in this league, they get the ball 20 or 25 times a game," Jones said yesterday." Just by you getting the ball that many times, you get a feel for what the defense is doing and you can get a feel for how the offensive line is blocking. Unfortunately, we haven't been able to do that the last couple of weeks."

3 carries the 2nd half ?

Someone needs to be fired.

Especially when you consider who their QB is.

Unfortunately this is my feeling too. TJ has been a huge bust and I see nothing to make me feel it's going to get any better.

Mangini abandoned the running game because it wasn't working. I'll keep saying it, as I have since training camp. This O line can't run block, and Mangini knows that. So, instead of running the ball, they try to dink and dunk down the field they way they did last year. Thing is, teams have learned how to jump those short routes, and Pennington has uncharacteristically made some awfully inaccurate passes as well to compound the problem.

Don't look for Jones to improve as a FF RB. It isn't going to happen. Unless..... there is a philosophical shift in the offensive game plan, which would include most likely, the benching of Pennington. I would not be shocked to see Clemens get some playing time if the Jets fall behind this week against Philly, which is what I suspect will happen.

TJ is 100% correct - the gameplan and play calling has been atrocious. Sure our OL has sucked at run blocking so far but that is no excuse for giving up the run in close games like we have been doing - especially with Chad's suspect play!

On sunday night Chicago's Benson averaged about 2.7 yds per carry - yet they ran the ball 30+ times and won with a crappy Griese!

You dont give up on the run - it takes away TJ as he doesnt even get humming until carry 15 or so. To have 12 carries in two back to back close games is inexcusable and a clear example of Mangini taking a step back this year.

Finally - not running the ball takes away one of the things Chad does well - play action - when you run the ball 12 times a game with your #1 RB the defenses dont bite on the play action at all.

Hope Mangini wakes up and makes adjustments - stunned he did this two weeks in a row - when TJ ran the ball 25 times vs Miami he had a huge game and the team won - not a coincidence IMO!!!

He sucks. Benson is better thats why Chicago got rid of his ###.
Clearly, Benson is doing a much better job than Thomas Jones ever did. Do you not factor offensive lines into your analysis? Sheesh, the Jets and the Bears both look terrible...at least TJ has shown to be a serviceable rb in his career. What has Benson EVER shown?

They both have crappy O-lines right now I would even dare to say Chicagos is worse, so I dont get your point about the lines. And I hate to say it but Benson made Jones a better player in Chicago than he really was. His only good years ever were his 3 years in Chi. And that was due to 1) having Benson help him carry the load. And 2) Chi had a really good O-line those years. He couldnt ever carry a full load and you can see now in NY that without Benson helping him carry the load and without a good O-line he sucks.Atleast Benson can carry the load by himself and wear teams down. Plus Benson has always been a slow starter and got stronger as the weather gets colder and the season drags on.Anybody who revists the TJ to NY trade has to honestly realize that Chi made the right move. I mean crap Benson is 24 and has yet to fully enter his prime and he's outperforming TJ who is 29 and past his prime. No brainer move by Chi IMO.

:bag: :whoosh: :lmao: :lmao: What is scary is you probably actually believe everything you just wrote. Yeah, that 3.0 YPC of Benson's is mighty impressive. LOLFace it, there are two reasons why the Bears got rid of Jones and kept Benson:1) Jones and Benson did not get along, and the Bears figured that since Benson was a recent number 1 draft pick, they owed him a chance at being the featured back, before bailing on him.2) The Bears are cheap and didn't want to pay Jones.

TJ showed in last year's playoffs that he is a much better RB in the Bears system.Benson is a bust who has never seen nor never will see a "prime".

Benson has more carries, more yards, and more TDs, and just as many receptions and rec yards as TJ.So what do you want out of your FF RB?And the thing is TJs best days are behind him. Benson is 24 years old and his best days are ahead of him.

Just because someone's best days are ahead of them doesn't mean they're actually going to be good.

Let's use an extreme example-It's 2010. Tomlinson's peak is behind him. Does this mean every fresh faced rb is a better runner simply because their best days are ahead of them?

Thomas Jones is no elite talent but thus far in their respective careers, Benson hasn't deserved to be compared. Benson has made TJ look like a pro bowler.

Now, if we're talking fantasy wise, I'd take Benson over Jones this year. Benson has nobody behind him while TJ has Leon. Lovie seems intent on running the ball no matter how ineffective it is while Mangini would rather rely on ole noodle arm.

Are you kidding me? Thus far in their careers? In Bensons first 325 career carries he has 1222 yards and 8 TDs, for 3.8 YPC. In TJ first 362 carries in his career he had 1264 yards, 9 TDs, for 3.5 ypc What the hell are you talking about? Looks to me that if you compare their first 3 years Benson is clearly better, and Bensons 3rd year he still has 11 games left. Also TJ didnt have a 1000 yard rushing season until his 6th year in the league, Benson is going to have one is his 3rd year in the league and 1st as a starter. So who's making who look like a pro bowler?

I think you haters have so much hate in your heart for Benson that it blinds the truth. Give the kid a chance.
