WHAT happened to Thomas Jones? (1 Viewer)

How does he not get a single snap after his 2 big runs with like 12 minutes left in the THIRD quarter? Bears had all of their other starters in the whole game, including Grossman, Urlacher, etc. Did he get hurt?

TJ not only didn't get a carry, he didn't get a freakin' snap the rest of the way. Brutal.

must have lost your game

He tweaked his ankle. I'm not sure about the details, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't anything bad. I'm guessing they didn't want to risk putting him back in though because they have 2 viable backups.

I did lose my game - but didn't see anything about tweaking his ankle. He did it on the touchdown run?

A buddy in my home league was gripping as well. He ended up losing his game by 2. Having Jones out and SJax missing a series was tough for him to take.

He'll be :ptts: tomorrow for sure.

TJ looked pissed when the cameras showed him when CB and AP wre taking his carries.

What a suck :D

I was wondering about this as well. If it was an injury, OK. But Lovie seems determined to give Benson more playing time, even though Jones clearly looks better.

Jones looked great on those last two runs.

Yes Jones has clearly been the better player all season. Truth is we know what Jones is about. Really good last year and average this year. We know Benson is a head case, but how good could he be if he was a 20-25 carries a game?

How about staying on topic. Save the Benson threads for another time - after all, TJ did go for 24 and 30 on back to back plays, so I think he outplayed Benson tonight, again. So, back on point - did TJ get hurt or not?

I heard no mention of a TJ injury during the game. The guys in the booth mentioned a discussion with Lovie Smith where he expressed a desire to give Benson more carries than Jones tonight.

Hmmm, TJ carries 11 times for 76 yds and a TD. Benson logs 16 carries for 64 yards. As a Jones owner, it's saddens me to say that I think this trend will continue during the regular season, especially now that the Bears have clinched. Now Lovie can give Benson extensive game action with the built-in justification of resting TJ for the playoffs.

from tonight's Trib:

"The two combined for 91 rushing yards in the third quarter alone, highlighted by Jones shaking off a sore ankle to turn the Rams' right side and score from 30 yards out, his longest run of the season."

Lovie is lying the groundwork for Cedric Benson to start next week.Lovie mentioned the ankle injury in his post-game press conference.
 I just heard the press conference.Just in time for the fantasy playoffs. Jones needs a break with that gimpy ankle. Time to turn Benson loose.

Great. Just great.
Hasn't TJones been playing w/ a bum ankle for the last couple weeks?I've noticed over the last several games that one of his ankles is heavilytaped as opposed to the other. I remember noticing it first in the Giants game.I've got both and would love to have an easy decision next weekend.

The fact of the matter is that the Bears would beat the Bucs on Sunday with Kyle Orton starting at running back. If the ankle is an issue at all, it makes no sense to play T.J. You guys have to stop looking at everything from a fantasy football perspective. Lovie doesn't give a crap about FF.

Hey, Kyle Orton is on all of my waiver wires. Maybe I should scoop him up.

The Bucs are gonna step out into the cold and crack in half. The Bears are gonna lay the ### whoopin' of ### whoopin's on the Buccos.

The Bears were up by 7 after TJ's run and up by 14 with 3 left in the 3rd. Adrian Peterson scored a rushing TD 5 minutes later. Up by 21.....is there any reason to risk injury to your BEST RB (aka TJ) when you have just clinched home field advantage through the playoffs and your QB is looking better?I think not....Benson always gets every 3rd series....this time is just worked out that Chicago was up late in the game and Benson wrapped up garbage time.THIS is the ONLY risk with TJ. He WILL NOT get garbage points! The game must be close for TJ to stay in. Otherwise Lovie will continue to "look at" Benson with the game in hand.

Does anyone have more info on the extent of the injury and what it means for the upcoming week?

It was St Louis they were playing against. IIRC there were a # of big gains by all three of backs. Any one of them could have had an explosive game had they stayed in the entire game. Don't forget that Chicago had a big lead too .. just another reason to put in Adrian as the 3rd wound down.

Jones (102 total yards, one touchdown) came out of Monday night's game in the third quarter with a sprained ankle, but was walking fine afterward. He will be re-evaluated as the week goes on, but it is not expected to be a serious injury. (Brad Biggs for SN)

Based on T Jones and similar issues with his health last year, this should translate into more carries for Benson next week. If Benson takes advantage of the opportunities against TB, look for a 50/50 split weeks 16 and 17. Week 17 would be split with Peterson. Wish Benson could get the pass blocking down so he could at least become the full time goal line back, but the Bears believe he sells the run when he is in. Hopefully next week he will get the hang of it.

This "every third series for Benson" is a thing of the past, I believe. Benson got just three fewer carries than Jones against the Vikings, and last night, after T.J. was in for the first two series, it was one for Benson, one for Jones, one for Benson, one for Jones. Then Jones got dinged.

So even by your math that's4 for TJ2 for Benson Correct me if I'm wrong but that's 2 to 1?Then TJ got dinged... AND the game was in the books. So all it took for Benson to take over was more series for TJ, TJ in on passing downs (yes, that's confirmed), TJ to get dinged, and Chicago to have the game in hand in the 3rd quarter? Then Benson is the man!Come on people....quit looking at the total carries and watch the flow of the game and the decisions the coach makes per the situation!

T. Jones 11carries 76yards 1TD long of 30 6.9 ypc

C. Benson 16carries 64yards 0TD long of 9 4 ypc

TJ also added a great catch that helped him to 2 catches for 26 yards 13ypc versus Benson's 0, 0, 0ypc

I don't know, but the lack of TJ's playing time in the second half and Peterson's touchdown have me worried. I own both Benson and Jones and don't know WTF to do this week.I really thought Benson would get the majority of carries this week, but then they put Peterson in at the goal line and gave him additional carries in the 4th quarter. WTF.Now that they've clinched home field, I really don't know what to do. My gut is telling me to start Benson this week against Tampa Bay.

I was thinking the same thing. With a first round bye and home field locked I think Lovie will run Benson & Peterson against TB and rest TJ for the playoffs. I also suspect that Lovie will speak to that at some point this week.

My mistake....home field is apparently not locked yet....but I still think this holds true

Yea..I was wrong as well. I can see TJ getting the early work and then on the bench if it looks like the game is in hand.If they beat Tampa, I think TJ will only be in for a series or two agains the Lions.

Predicted carries vs. Tampa Jones - 10Benson - 20Peterson - 5Thoughts?
I like Beson to get the "lions share" this week because of Chicago's situation, TB's terrible offence, and Chicago's terrific DEF. I see Lovie resting his #1 RB THOMAS JONES for the playoffs!Benson - 25-30Peterson - 12-15

This is why you handcuff. I have been riding Jones all year and he's been solid. I don't see him getting more than 10 carries the rest of the way though. He's beat up, the Bears are about to clinch home field advantage, and it's the perfect time to see what they have in Benson.

I only have Ced now, but if I had both of them I would start ONLY Benson the rest of the way.

I have both and have also rode TJ all year. I have even used BOTH in two weeks and was rewarded with production from BOTH in blowout wins over Buff and SF!!!Having said that, I'll be watching Lovie's press conferences and fully expect to see Jones Rested for the playoffs either this week (easy matchup vs TB in Chicago) or beginning next week when they have locked home field up.

For those with a week 17 title game, would it be reasonable to suggest that A-Pete could be worth a WW pickup? They should run all over the Packers in the final game at home, and Benson even figures to be rested a bit.

I think that is a stretch and would hope you have much better options.Any "garbage" time carries, even in this senario, I think would fully go to Benson.

How do you explain the APete TD last night? I would have bet anything that Benson would have gotten the call there.

The game I watched - the first half - Benson looked like the significantly better RB.

I can't explain it ... dunno if anyone really can.My best guess is that Lovie wanted to spread the love to all his backs. Both of his primary backs have been very successful lately, and perhaps he didn't want to ignore his 3rd stringer (who is actually quite good) that works hard every day in practice, and had a 20 or 30 yd reception earlier that contributed to that drive.

Good call wise guy....TJ 9 touches for 44 yardsBenson 5 touches for 25 yardsMaybe Benson looked better between minutes 4 and 6 of the 2nd quarter? I'd have to check on that though!I forget though, when did TJ make that great catch as he was falling to the turf?

:kicksrock:

Peterson came up with some big time 3rd down conversions and actually on the play that got them to the goalline it was 3rd down and AP was in and got the run to about the 1 but there was a penalty. I think Lovie just kept him in the game cause he deserved to score after the many efforts he gave to get 1st downs.

Pretty much just repeating what the guys above me said.
