Will Dayne be considered draftable again? How far will Lundy/Morency drop? The writing is on the wall guys - dont hate the messenger.

To be honest... I see him signing in Miami more than Houston. Saban has been looking for a guy to take a chunk of Brown's carries and nobody right now on this team can do that.

Miami seems like a more likely destination than Houston - as someone mentioned, there is no real depth behind Brown, and Morris is suspended for 4 games. And Houston already has Lundy and Morency.

In any event, I don't think Dayne will do much anywhere he goes. He had his big opportunity in Denver, and if he couldn't do it at the RB factory, he probably won't anywhere.

 Dayne has had opportunities to shine. If he goes anywhere I wouldn't downgrade the backs there a bit. The Dayne Train left the station with a lot of promise but could never pick up speed along the way. For all those still hanging on it's time to give it up and admit Dayne has been a major NFL bust.

Seahawks activated WR Darrell Jackson (knee) from active/PUP.

Seattle's interest in Deion Branch shows their not sold on Jackson being ready for the season. ESPN's John Clayton reports it would be the Seahawks, not the Jets, who would likely make the boldest offer to acquire Branch if he is to be dealt. Jackson will try to practice this week.

sorry this has nothing to do with this post...please disregard my stupidity

The Panthers might reportedly be interested in free agent Ron Dayne.

Carolina can't be sold on Eric Shelton, despite keeping him on the roster Saturday. Coach John Fox says Shelton still "has potential," but if the team signed Dayne, Shelton would probably lose his spot.

Eric Shelton was placed on IR. He's gone for the year.

I think Houston is the probable destination for Dayne because the playbook is most likely very similar to the one in Denver . Houston only kept three RB's on the roster - 2 rookies and 2nd year guy Morency. I would think they plan on adding anothe RB.

I read this in today's Dallas Morning News list of all NFL player transactions. I went looking and found out he is on the roster nor IR. I stand corrected.

I do not see Houston going after Dayne. The reason I say this is because they just cut Antoine Smith. He is in my opinion a bit better than Dayne.

Why does anyone care where this turd lands? He has done NOTHING in his career up to now, including a chance in the Denver system.

If you are hoping to grab him to solidify your ff team, you have bigger problems.

Per Sean Salisbury and John Clayton just now, the consensus is that if he lands anywhere, it would probably be Miami.

Ron Dayne is fantasty fodder and if you are dependent on him for fantasy success then you need to find another hobby.

Seriously! I mean, I get it. He was great in college back in 1996 or whatever, but just let it go. He sucks. He always has sucked in the NFL ranks and he'll continue to suck.

Has anyone heard news on Dayne today? I too think he is a piece of garbage at this point but I have my draft here in a few hours and he could hoard some GL carries somewhere. A buddy of mine in our league (and he could be pulling my leg) said that he heard on the radio this morning that Miami, Philly and Pittsburgh are places looking at him. I am interesting in R. Brown and FWP but knowing Dayne is going there could knock them down a bit. Any one heard anything?

Since Miami is looking for help while Morris is out, why would they go after Dayne when he hasn't played all preseason due to his toe injury? It just would seem Miami needs immediate help and Dayne is doubtful at this stage.

Chris taylor got cut,so the ztexans are down to Morency & Lundy.

Mario Williams is the 3rd string RB.

]He couldn't vulture GL carries for the Giants over Tiki. That's why the Giants drafred Jacobs 2 years ago.

Who is the most dangerous pickup that would cut into Lundy's/Morency's numbers?

Suggs, Dayne, Davenport, Pinner?

Not sure who would be most dangerous but you'd have to think that one of these guys will be picked up by the Texans. Presently the Texans only have 2 RB's on their roster, and I can't imagine they go into the season like that.

To continue the Shelton confusion:

Winston Salem Journal

With Adams gone, Vinny Ciurciu, a special teamer and backup middle linebacker, survived. That rated as a mild surprise, along with running back Eric Shelton, cornerback Kevin McCadam and rookie tight end Jeff King also making it.

Fox said that the promise shown by a number of Panthers' younger linebackers warranted getting rid of Adams, a sixth-year NFL veteran.

Shelton, a second-round draft pick in 2005 who missed last season with a foot injury, may have saved his job with hard running and 44 yards on 10 carries vs. Pittsburgh.
Jacksonville Daily News
Headlining the surprise players to make the roster was running back Eric Shelton, a former second-round draft pick who spent last year on injured reserve and struggled during the preseason. Despite some harsh comments by offensive coordinator Dan Henning last week, the team decided to keep Shelton over Haynes and Robertson.

I think Dayne needs to be looked at as a possible starter now. With experience running in the zone blocking scheme and having worked with Kubiak in the past - this really throws a wrench in peoples Wali Lundy plans.

You have to be kidding ( possible starter )The guy is just adding depth at RB , no more then RB 3 ( cant even be used for short yardage cause he is one of the worst short yardage back in the league ) so just depth or width like someone else mentionned .

As the only vet RB on the roster with experience in the system, I think you would be foolish to not take this signing as a real threat to MOrency and Lundy. This isnt what I want to see myself, but championships in fantasy are won with forsight, not stubborness.

I doubt Houston brought Dayne in to be their RB3. They would've been better off keeping Taylor, who's cheaper & plays special teams, if that was the case.

I believe Dayne was brought in to compete. It's the only thing that makes sense.

Afterall, if I am not mistaken, Ron Dayne did average 5.1 YPC last year right?

People talk as though he was horrible in this zone blocking scheme, but the reality is he was really pretty effective.

Texans | Team signs R. Dayne

Sun, 3 Sep 2006 16:07:33 -0700

Bill Williamson, of the Denver Post, reports the Houston Texans have agreed to terms with free agent RB Ron Dayne (Broncos). Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

-------------

I dont own any Texans RBs, but believe that Dayne really just is a fantasy bust, and is no more than a potential short-yardage or safety guy here. No more.

Dayne averaged 2.4 YPC in preseason with Denver this year. His YPC might have something to do why Denver cut him?

If he was effective...........why did het get cut?

Man, Dayne was a stud in college. He did run behind a dominating offensive line, but the guy was great at recognizing the hole and had some speed for a big guy. He obviously peaked early, but his ability to recognize a hole has kept him in the league. I don't like hating on the guy, but he just isn't quick/agile/strong enough to play in any system other than Denver/Houston at this point, where recongizing the hole is essential, if not the most important quality for RB. Bottom line, Houston is a nice situation for him, and if you can keep 6+ RB's take a shot on him, but don't expect him to be in the lineup before week 5.

Kubiak could have had pretty much his pick of Suggs, Davenport, Dayne, etc. etc. Considering his background, I'll trust his assessment & take a flyer on Dayne. He probably the one that brought Dayne to Denver too.Nothing ventured...

The Jetswere the only team to make an offer to NE. supposedly a #1 pick by the deadline. the Jets and Seattle both met his salary demand. If he goes anywhere the Jets should get him.
