What have we learned after week 4 (1 Viewer)

Footballguy
- I've learned that there is a reason they play the games. SD is up on KC 16-9 in the 3rd quarter. I hop in the shower to get ready for dinner for my wedding anniversary and when I check the score again, KC had 21 more points. How the hell did that happen?

- I've learned that maybe Cam Cameron has more to do with LT's success then we have ever thought. Ronnie Brown has been putting up some serious LT type numbers the last couple of games. If Brown throws for a TD next week, LT owner may want to try to trade LT for Brown.....I'm kidding of course, but

- The Rams still suck. Heard the first rumblings of fire the coach on talk radio here this morning. I'm not so sure they make to their week 9 bye week with a win. Arizona, Balt, Sea and Cle are all better teams. And if the Rams do go 0-8 going into the bye week, that Cleveland game may be Linehan's last as a Rams coach.

- I don't remember this many injuries in a football season before. Am I nuts here?

- I like how GB avoided that stout run D of the Vikes - just don't run

- It's time to stop screwing around in Arizona. Put the clip board in pretty boy's hands and let Warner win a few ball games for the Cards. When (not if) Warner goes down, the kid just might be a little more prepared to play in this league because as of right now he's not

- I know we all thought that Chargers fleeced the Giants in the Rivers/Eli trade. Now, not so much...

- The people that drafted the Bears D as the first D off the board are not real happy right now. And those that did the same with Baltimore are just a little less unhappy...

- I love how the backup QB is the most popular player on the team. How do Chicago fans feel about Griese today?

- Steve Smith misses Jake Delhomme.

- On that same note, maybe it wasn't the bad O-line that caused Carr to suck so bad in Houston. And this is from a Carr fan.

- Looks like Philly should've saved some points from the Detroit game. 3 whole points against the Giants? :excited:

- Cleveland blows out the Ravens. Who saw that coming? I didn't make a play for Anderson on the WW because of the tough schedule he had coming up. Looks like the kid can play....

What did everyone else see this week?

- Welcome to the starting lineup DBowe. Enjoy your stay!

- Apparently 108 yds rushing in one half earns you a spot on the bench. Thanks Childress!

- Maybe it's just a little too early to write-off Joey Harrington as a bust. Situations at least warrants watching.

- Evidently, a QB can throw for only 75 yards and still score 5 TDs. Welcome back C-Pepp.

Among the things I noticed this week:

If Denver wants to be a legitimate playoff threat the Broncos need a healthy Javon Walker. Jay Cutler and Brandon Marshall are not ready to carry an offense and without Walker, the team lacks its top playmaker. It's no coincidence, in my opinion, the Broncos are 2-0 in the games where Walker was heavily involved and 0-2 in the games he either missed or was taken out of the game plan.

Steve Smith misses Jake Delhomme BAD.

Watching Brad Childress keep Adrian Peterson on the sidelines so much had me wondering if he was trying to get himself fired.

The Packers are 4-0 without any semblance of a running game. As much as I'm thrilled to see it as a Packers fan I keep wondering when the other shoe is going to drop.

Philip Rivers is regressing.

Dwayne Bowe is the frontrunner for the Rookie of the Year award. Peterson clearly deserves strong consideration but unlike AD, Bowe isn't being held back by his head coach and unlike AD, Bowe's strong performance is helping to revitalize a football team that not too long ago looked dead in the water.

How many more weeks of WR2 production will Shaun McDonald need to put up before people start realizing he's not a fluke?

Conversely, I think Isaac Bruce is done. I had high hopes for him as a sleeper going into the season but that offense is in shambles. The only Ram I'd even consider starting right now would be Torry Holt and I'd only start him as a WR2.

Braylon Edwards and Kellen Winslow are pretty darn good. And Derek Anderson just might be better than a lot of people, myself included, thought.

Why do teams kick to Devin Hester? Seriously, why is this done? If I was a head coach, I'd be telling my special teams coach that if the ball is kicked anywhere near Hester you can start looking for another job on Monday. I'd rather see the Bears start on the 40 then give Hester a shot at a return.

Looks like the Cowboys have a new goal-line running back. OK, I'm kidding but as a Julius Jones fan it was nice to see him cash in from the 2 against the Rams.

Dallas Clark is a Top 5 TE and if you're not starting him, you're making a big mistake.

I'm not sure why it took them four games but the Jets finally got the ball to Leon Washington more. This needs to be a consistent trend. He's arguably their most explosive offensive player and going two straight games without him getting a single reception was absurd.

Start your QBs and WRs against the Jets. Not to take away from the kid, but they made rookie Trent Edwards look like a seasoned vet out there. They also made Trent Green look darn good the week before. No pass rush to speak of.

-I learned that my eyes were not deceiving me and Cleveland really isn't a bad offensive team.

-I learned that Leinart is a left handed Old Bledsoe(not young Bledsoe) patting the ball like 17 times before he throws, whats that all about?

-Whoever is calling the plays in Minny is an idiot. *HELLO* 10 car for 108 yds at half doesnt mean he's play his game for today.

-I learned that it might actually be time to start calling Devin Hester "GREAT" its no longer a matter of if he runs one back its when.

-I learned that I'm never gonna stop asking myself "Is Romo really this good?"

-I also learned that everyone in San Diego front office needs to be shot.

-I also learned that you dont move a RT to LT and not give him help. WOW

-I learned that Arizona's Def may be better than they are given credit for.

- Learned Childress is Idoit and I might want trade AP for Lynch (A back that get's the touches)

- Learned S. Holmes was as good as thought he was. Damn byes making me drop him for QB

- Learned EDGE is going have great year.

- Learned Plax might be newest WR to brake the 13 TD mark. (Did you know only 2 WR has had more 15 TD since 2001?)

- Learned ROMO is for real

- Learned SEA is lot better then they wear last year.

- Learned That Addai is stud (Pissed I only got chance to draft him in 1 leauge)

- Learned Odd things happen... Ariz has a Run Def?

I've learned that a soft coach can take a championship caliber team and make them soft as well. (Any chance Marty could be convinced to come back to San Diego?)

- The loss of Norv hurts Gore & SF.

- The addition of Norv hurts LT & SD

- Braylen Edwards is a must start every week. There I said it.

- Was that a Lee Evans sighting? Was that a 100 yard performance? That was against the Jets. Don't even think that he gets hot now. Put him right back on the bench. The Cowboys are coming to town and he's gonna go right back to 1 catch for 7 yards...

- The people that drafted the Bears D as the first D off the board are not real happy right now. And those that did the same with Baltimore are just a little less unhappy...
Good Post. I just have one comment on the Bears D, as I was one who grabbed them first off the board. I know it depends on your league scoring system...but right now, they are still a must start every week in my league...mostly due to Hester. Again, it depends on the scoring system, but yesterday they put up 39 points for me. If I had the same choice to make, I would take them again.

-Okay, so maybe the Bears' offensive problems aren't all Rex Grossman's fault. Any time Berrian would like to catch the ball instead of dropping it is fine by me.

-Derek Anderson can play. The Brady Quinn era is apparently not imminent.

-Joey Harrington lives!

-Philip Rivers & Marc Bulger are both going to see the bench for a while, at least on my teams.

Your good teams are not always your best teams.

Or is it....

Your best teams are not always your good teams.

San Diego.

Patrick Crayton: Starting to emerge as a solid WR2?? or just a fluke as it was vs STL?

Think Romo's agent had Jerry Jones' cell phone on speed dial after the game?

CAR def yesterday vs TB: ZERO sacks, ZERO ints, 1 Fumble recovery..........Carolina is in trouble folks

After reading 75% of the post here I've learned...

There is a LOT of hate for Childress.. and not just from Viking fans.

Lee Evans: 6 catches - 72 yards

Happy anniversary, from a fellow Sept. 30th married man (2000)!

What I learned yesterday:

Arz has a pretty darn good run D.

Clev has a pretty darn good O.

KC has a WR....

...then again, SD still has one of the worst 5 secondaries in the NFL.

TB is a lot better than I and many thought before the season...

...the rest of their division sucks and they have a legit playoffs chance because of it.

Harrington can play a little QB.

St.L is slowly becoming the worst team in the NFL this season.

Dal is the beast team in the NFC.

Favre is once again a top 5 QB.

Never underestimate a guy who has something to prove... Cpep in Mia.

I have no idea what to make of both Philly and NYG this year.

Grossman is still the best QB Chi has. The entire O is awful.

I learned that I'm a better FF GM than a FF coach.

Between my 2 teams I had the smarts to acquire the following players, but as a coach (not so much) they were on my bench.

Benched:

Culpepper

Anderson

A. Davis

Crayton

L. Washington

S. Rice

That St. Louis has just as good as chance to go 0-16 as NE does 16-0.

That Brian Griese was backing up Rex Grossman for a reason.........he's not as good.

San Diego will not make the playoffs

Tom Coughlin is doing a good job of winning with no real RB and supposedly a horrible defense that averaged giving up over 40 points a game the first 2 weeks

Every one of those are tough starts though if you have a couple of studs going. PROBABLY the most likely start there in a WR3 league is Crayton but even then it's no gimme. I started him 3 out of the 4 weeks in such a league and I finally hit for something big.

-That I am just plain unlucky and that caring about doing my best in my league causes too much frustration when I have no control over what happens anyway.

-matt schaub is making david carr look like a fool (not that carr need help)

-the broncos really don't believe in jay cutler that much. why else do you run it on 3rd and goal from the 12 against the colts?

-of course childress is an idiot, he learned under andy reid, right?

My league doesn't penalize for points or yardage allowed so 6 sacks, 2 fumble recoveries and a TD (14 pts) is pretty sweet for the Bears D despite the fact that they sucked. They were third in D/ST points yesterday behind the Lions and the Giants.

David Carr is still puke.
David Carr does not belong in the NFL.Interesting that Houston suddenly has an offense now that he's gone, and yesterday Carolina's offense looked a lot like Houston used to. Per Rotoworld after yesterday's game:
Ronde Barber said Sunday that the Bucs "didn't do anything" special to hold Steve Smith to just 32 yards in Week 4."He just wasn't getting his opportunities," Barber said. "They weren't giving him opportunities. I don't know the reasons for that. We had some things in to deal with Steve Smith today and to our benefit, we didn't have to use them." Barber's statements figure to add to Smith's frustration after he spent much of the game visibly upset at David Carr's inability to get him the ball.
Carr has one of the NFL's most dynamic WRs (gee, seems sorta like Andre Johnson now too, doesn't it) and has no freaking idea how to use this weapon. 41 throws, 9 were to Smith, completing 5, all short ones, for 32 yards. Pathetic. Carr had 23 yards passing at halftime yesterday, and 155 yards on 41 attempts overall for a 3.8 YPA. Get his ### off the field, Carolina, if you want to have any chance of winning with your offense!

Don't trust Cutler? Like 4th and 5 on their own 6, they call a pass play?Rat face does some odd things, don't try to understand it.For all the NFL coaches, if your RB averages 10 yards a carry, you didn't give him the ball enough.

I remember looking at the stats during that game as I was facing Peens in the Hyper Active League and he had SSmith going. I think at the half all of Carr's completions were 5 yards or less. He averaged 8.1 yards per completion on the day. That was his bread and butter in Houston, the dump pass because he was always being pressured. I just assumed it was poor line play. Looks like the guy can't throw the deep ball. I just went through his completions. Exactly 4 were for 10 yards or more. All the rest were under 10 yards. That's pathetic....Steve Smith is the best WR in the game and Jarrett is like 6' 5" and he can't chuck it down field and let them go up and get it?

Smith only got open down field once and dropped the ball. They threw to him deep at least 3 times.

^^ Yep, lots of hate from Peterson owners.Learned:-Packers seem to have found a way to win football games with absolutely NO running game at all.-Rams may be the worst team in football. When Wilkins is missing FGs that this team has hit rock bottom.-Edge is fantastic.-After the last 3 weeks of watching Philly, NFL games are fixed (ok, I already knew that)-Dallas Clark gets thrown to. A LOT.-Culpepper can run again. and again. and again.-Plaxico is a cyborg from the future.

I'd pay more money for a piece of gum on the bottom of my shoe than I would to see any of the Jax WR's play in a regular season game!

Randy Moss's situation in NE follows the guidelines of its not over till the fat lady sings!!! :goodposting:

Sad to say but Willis McGahee is still not the real deal with a legit offensive line in Baltimore! That fact sucks because I thought Willis would be ripping the league a new one in the first four weeks of the season!!!

-J. Cotchery is very underrated in fantasy and in the real NFL

-M. Lynch is going to be a very good RB.

-New team same result.....D. Carr still sucks! How can you have A. Johnson and not be very good and than S. Smith and still look bad.

-D. Culpepper although he ran for 3 rushing TD's looks very slow on the field. Healthy knee or not, I am not sold on him being a good starting QB in fantasy or real NFL.

-Oakland was not as bad as their record last year

-Kiffin should be in the running for coach of the year talks (after 4 weeks)

-Indy (due to Manning) year in and year out is the most consitent offense of quite possibly all time

-K. Keith has proved to be (with proper roster size) a must have handcuff to Addai

-Chicago needs T. Jones more than the Jets did/do

-K. Warner still has something left in the tank

-B. Favre is an AMAZING football player

-R. Crennel should have started D. Anderson from the start of the year. He took to much flack for not putting in Quinn but it appears he has now made the right decision.

-D. Mason is still good in fantasy especially in PPR leagues. And if Heap has to miss anytime due to his hammy Mason becomes even more important.

-J. Addai is proving to be worth a top 5 pick in fantasy as some of us were claiming he would be. Esepcially in dynasty drafts

-Expect the unexpected............... Week 1: C. Brown lead the day in rushing. Week 4: J. Fargas lead the day in rushing.

-B. Ruud is proving to be great in IDP leagues

-J. Garcia was a great move by Gruden

-Houston, Oakland, Denver, Cleveland, Arizona all have better records than the Chargers

-People were way to down on E. Manning at the start of the year

They miss Walker badly. It's clear Shanahan didn't trust Cutler enough and that's a problem against the Colts because to beat Indy you have to be aggressive offensively. But Shanahan was passive yesterday and it cost him. A healthy Walker likely changes that approach. But Cutler definitely isn't ready to carry a team by himself. Compare that to Schaub, who just continues to impress even as his best offensive weapons drop around him.

Steve Young is almost right. It's not just a quarterback league because the only way to have a real team is stud QB and head coach. There's the Colts and the Patriots and a bunch of chaff.

That the Chargers can lose a HOME playoff game to a team that throws 3 interception, start the following year 1-3 and still have people talking about them as "legitimate contenders". Chargers are Lions with Barry Sanders and we never had to listen to nonsense about them being favorites to go the Super Bowl.

Tony Romo will never figure out how to wear a hat correctly.
