What if VY Plays Well Enough to Spark League Interest (1 Viewer)

sorry if this is a honda...

if he played more like in his rookie than soph year, for the balance of the season, how many teams could VY realistically start for, or be in competition for a starting role?

AFC East - BUF? (edwards has been fragile and ineffective at times, though VY, at least in the recent past, could be fairly described as the arguably more alarming, psychologically fragile). MIA seems to like henne, though that could be contingent on further development, and subject to revision based on future play.

AFC North - CLE (i might be an upgrade for the browns)... nobody else, PIT, CIN & BAL starters have to be one of the top divisional concentrations of young QB strength in the NFL.

AFC South - JAX (garrard has been erratic, though maybe the handwriting was on the wall with all the OL issues past few seasons).

AFC West - OAK (the only thing al davis covets maybe as much as speed and league controversy is hoarding/stockpiling high 1st round picks... not that it has helped a lot recently)... russell's lack of development has been catastrophic for the franchise.

NFC East - WAS (not looking like it will be campbell, or that they have a replacement groomed and waiting in the wings).

NFC North - MIN (if favre retires after 2009)... would it be stretch to think VY could compete with jackson... VY would present some intriguing matchup problems in the same backfield as peterson... he would have great WRs to throw to in harvin, rice & berrian, far better than what he has had to deal with in TEN to date.

NFC South - CAR (delhomme has probably been the worst QB in football, and the panthers have proven they are a good team with any semblance of QB play)... he would only have to beat out matt more & journeyman AJ feeley... the panthers don't have a 1st rounder in 2010, trading it away for the second they used on rookie DE everette brown (?).

NFC West - Not sure STL would be interested, but he could be an upgrade over the rapidly disintegrating marc bulger... SEA is in a precarious situation with hasselbeck getting regularly beat up as he enters mid-30s... mora made running QB work in ATL, and he could be upgrade over seneca wallace... does SF have an entrenched starter?

that is potentially 8-10 teams (1/4 to nearly 1/3 of the teams in the league). How many slots can be filled by playing free agent musical chairs, or spending a high pick on the likes of bradford or one of the other top 2-3 QB prospects?

One, Tennessee.

Remember, the owner is the guy lobbying for him, staying behind him and demanding he starts.

TEN is the most obvious place he could be, if he plays well.

The premise of the thread was a thought experiment on how many teams he could play for other than TEN if they don't renew his contract.

That said, that premise may have been a bit artificial and contrived. if he does play well, it obviously increases the chances he remains in TEN.

But he is scheduled to make a lot of money in 2010 (around $14 million?)... what if he plays good but not great, and is deemed not worth that much (more appropriate if he was on schedule to be a star, which is pretty far from certain at the moment... a lot could change between now and the end of the season, though, to change that opinion)...

than again, if the titans draft a QB high (depending on how many games they end up winning), that would also involve a big committment and investment, and with potentially no less risk, or even more... VY has at least shown flashes in limited NFL action (albeit it has been a while... but he has the rest of the season to redeem/prove himself), which couldn't be said of any rookie...

fair points all around. My thinking though is the Titans would be likely to renegotiate his contract. If however, the powers that be become convinced that the Titans need more of a pocket passer (not sure why this would be) then IMO VY will be backing up McNabb or Schaub or maybe head to Oakland.

definitely renegotiation could be an option...

agree, HOU & OAK easy to see...

i still think MIN would be interesting, if less obvious (childress might see some mcnabb in him... mcnabb much more accomplished passer, VY potentially much better runner)...

* PHI was maybe a good thought. VY very vick like, & it looks like kolb is mcnabb's replacement... vick may not be back after this year (flipped for a 2nd-3rd rounder?)... which made me think of MIA... he could be a monster in the wildcat... :kicksrock:

Are there usually this many teams with awful QB situations?
Seems a little more than typical, but it must fluctuate from year to year (sometimes worse & better).TEN has quietly won two in a row since the insertion of VY.He has a combined 27 completions out of 37 attempts, with a TD pass and run & 0 INTs in his first two starts, and seems to be playing within himself and the scheme well. The Titans did get healthier on defense today.* if they can string together some wins, it could help restore his confidence and begin to rehabilitate his image around the league. a confident VY could be dangerous and relevant again.

:moneybag: how many people realize that his record is 20-11? That's just a little worse than Peyton Manning's.
