What is Culpepper's thinking? (1 Viewer)

I suppose I can also let you know at this point that Daunte Culpepper has renegotiated his contract for 2009," Lewand said. "I think we are now prepared to go forward with Daunte in our quarterback mix."

Culpepper, who came out of retirement midway through last year's 0-16 season, was due to receive a $2.5 million roster bonus later this month, but Lewand said that would no longer happen.

Schwartz said the team is still discussing all options at quarterback, including the other four that played for them last season -- Jon Kitna, Dan Orlovsky, Drew Stanton and Drew Henson -- but the Culpepper renegotiation points to him as the favorite among that group
http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d8...mp;confirm=trueNot new news, but it strikes me that Cpep likely could get a pretty good deal with the JETS - and not have nearly the competition - PLUS be on a MUCH better team. I mean, why would anybody want to play for the Lions - much less renegotiate their contract in a market with a dearth of QB's??

Any thoughts??

I'm not sure that a team that looks like it will be built on a solid defense and a ball control offense wants a turn-over machine at QB.

My first thought is, Did you see Culpepper play last year? C-Peppy still make decisions like a rookie QB, every time he gets hit the ball seems to squirt out of his hands, he still throws boneheaded INTs, he is heavier and much less mobile than he used to be. It took half a season on his couch before a NFL team called..if you consider the Lions a NFL team.

Did I leave anything out?

 I don't think there are many teams, if any, that would hand over the starting job to CPep besides the Lions.

The guy is lucky to have a job. The Lions picked him up from the unemployment line, and it is doubtful anyone else would be interested.
