What is Mike Vick's role in Philly? (1 Viewer)

Now that Mike Vick is back in the NFL with the Philly Eagles what do you think his role is going to be with Eagles? Is he going to be strictly a Backup Qb or are they going to use him in a wider capacity. I dont think he is going to be used anything like a Bush or Harvin, but is there achance we could see him in on some passing formats or even rushing plays. I am sure hw would be a great decoy in the Wildcat, but how often is that really going to be run in a game? What do you guys think? I personally believe that he is much to valuable to be relegated to ONLY backup duties. He could be an invaluable weapon in many differnet offnesive packages.

I believe as the season moves into December, and Philly starts to understand how to best use an athlete with Vick's skillset, Vick will be in the ball-game for around 20-25 snaps as QB, decoy, wildcat, etc, whatever. It's all on the Philly brain-trust, and I think he and his agent made a wise decision, because I believe Andy Reid will get more out of Vick than most coaches would. I suspect early on(weeks 1-12) he will mostly be used in trick plays/etc.

You are right in saying it would be insane to keep an athlete like Vick on the bench. He is too good, and too dangerous with the ball in his hands. Just limit his passing to a few attempts per game, and Philly's offense will be gold. I'm not a fan of the Eagles, but I do believe this move puts them in the driver's seat for the NFC title(assuming Vick is still an uber-athlete/Reid uses him wisely)...time will tell!

Do you really think that Kold is better than Vick at QB? I for one, do not. Kolb looked awful last year in limited time and I thought he already got hurt this year. I dont think it would take much to pass Kolb. I think Kolb isn't long for the NFl.

Do I think that Kolb is better at running the Philly offense THIS YEAR? Absolutely. This isn't baseball where a guy can just show up on a team and contribute. NFL is all preparation and timing and Vick can't come in and play the most complicated position without any preparation. Vick doesn't supplant Kolb as starting QB this season unless Kolb completely falls apart on the field. Vick would be a last-resort type of option THIS YEAR

By week 8 Vick will be a better option then Kolb. Vick had a winning record on a horrendous Atlanta team.It isn't like Vick is a rookie, he's been around the game and knows all the basic terminology. Kolb is not near the QB Vick is (please note being a QB is more then just passing the ball).

I agree with both of you. Yes, of course, Vick will need to get up to speed in the complex philly offense. But by a 1/3 of the season Vick will know it as well as kolb and they almost have the same amount of experince running it.

last time I checked Mike Vick had trouble connecting on passes and when's last time this guy could take hits without getting hurt/banged up?

McNabb will barely scramble out of the pocket anymore, you think he's going to line up at WR?

I think the complex philly offense will prove to be too much for Vick to decipher -Andy will just tell Westbrook to put a rock in Vick's hand to tell him which way the play is supposed to go.
