What is the etiquette for this situation? (1 Viewer)

Footballguy
I own a team with my brother in law. Yesterday we completed a trade involving Antonio Cromartie for Vincent Jackson. Today we received a message from the other party involved saying he meant to include JT O Sullivan in the trade and would we just give him JT to complete what he meant to do.

Has this happened to anyone else?

What is the correct way of handling this - my brother in law and I are both pretty new to fantasy football so would like to follow to correct etiquette for this situation.

Thanks for any advice anyone can give.

You tell the other guy that he is S.O.L. All completed trades are final.

Now if he initially inquired about making that trade with JTO and you and your BIL would have made that trade anyway, you two can be cool and go ahead and throw him in there. But you are in no way obligated to add him in just because the other guy 'meant' him to be involved. If JTO's name never came up until after the trade was completed, I tell the other owner to pound sand because it sounds like he's trying to get one over on the new guys.

I agree. It also depends on your relationship to the other owners. Do you know these guys? are they friends of yours?

I think it is fine as long as you mention you meant to include Barber or Gore or ADP (whomever he has) and just to throw that player back at you when you send him JT...sounds very fishy to me. In all seriousness, I think you have to evaluate the trade as is (Cromartie for Jackson) and see whether throwing in JT would be fine (which in 12 years of FF, I have never heard of anything like this). My gut is telling me someone razzed him for the trade (i.e. you got the better end of the deal) and he is trying to get more value in return.

Pick the best player on his team, and tell him you meant to include him in the trade along with O'Sullivan.

If this is a low-stakes, friendly league, I would not insist on processing the Cromartie-Jackson trade. I'd consider that one null and void. If you're willing to throw in O'Sullivan, then let him repropose that trade and you accept. If that trade isn't acceptable to you, then the whole thing is off. In a higher-stakes cutthroat league, then the other owner is SOL and he can take it up with the commissioner.

Thanks everyone for the responses. It is a fun league and I don't know any of the other guys, but my BIL knows some, but none arew good friends. It is a friendly league - on CBSSports. We have Griese and Favre as well - would it maybe be the right thing to do to offer him Griese and say that he messed up and we don't want to lose JT, but we'd offer you Griese?

As mentioned, in a friendly league I'd offer to undo the trade. But I wouldn't "just throw in" a play that you didn't want to part with.

Undo the trade, let him offer a new one, and then decide if the new trade is acceptable to you. Counter if you want, but don't feel obligated in any way.

But if it's a money, competitive league - they should know to review their selections before clicking that submit button....

Good luck!

I think what everyone is trying to tell you is this...Was this a case of the guy submitting the trade transaction incorrectly? Meaning was it verbally (or email or IM or whatever handshake you used) agreed that you would also be sending him J.T.? If not, then he's the scammer and I would tell him that your deal is final as agreed and that J.T. would be a new deal to be negotiated. If it was part of the original agreement and the transaction was merely incorrect, then the right thing is to honor it and correct the trade with a note to the commissioner so that it's clear there is no collusion here.

Trader's remorse is no excuse.

Thanks everyone for the responses. It was never verbal or email etc - it was a trade he offered us through the website and we jumped on it.

Based on this, it seems that he's trying to get one over on you. I'd just say nope, that was never on the table, and I wouldn't have accepted the trade with JTO as part of the package. Pretty shady move, IMO.

A lot of people are targeting JT as a possible Super Bowl starter, fantasy Super Bowl that is, in week 16 when they go against StL. He's not just a 'throw in' player.

Based on your comments........DO NOT give him O'Sullivan. He is SOL.

Good luck in the future and enjoy FF for what it is.....................FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It sounds like the dude made an honest mistake, but a costly one. Since he put it out there like that, I don't think you're obligated to do anything. That's why if I put out feelers, I never put in a trade where the other guy would be crazy not to accept. I put it in where I get the player I'm interested in and he gets nothing. Then I add a comment letting him know that I'm interested and to counter with a player if interested. Or I put in a package where if he accepts it definitely benefits me, but also suggest a counter to move things along.

In no way are you obligated to include anything else. You agreed to what he offered. If you want to be nice, agree to undo the deal and start anew.ETA: If you have depth at a position, don't GIVE it away. TRADE it way to shore up other weaknesses on your team.

He has offered to change the trade to be JT O Sullivan and Antonio Cromartie for Vincent Jackson and a 2nd round draft pick - anyone have any thoughts on that offer?

Totally agree.

Depends on your league, but I don't know that many owners would get a 2nd for JTO, he's probably worth more, but it's reasonable. If you'd do that deal, it seems like a good solution, but don't feel obligated to.
