i haven’t been to many weddings and last one was quite a long time ago, since our NY days.  up in our area, cash was the gift.  this is a former co-worker of mine, not family.  i’ve been thinking $250-.  honestly, i have no idea.

What kind of things do they have on their registry?  Get a rough estimate of an average and go from there.

so, they have a house and young child.  registry says, “we are blessed to have everything we need, but you are welcome to contribute to our dream honeymoon”.

Well phooey.  So much for that idea.

$250 seems like a lot though IMO, especially for a co-worker.  I mean, are they a really good friend even though you don't work together?

wow, $100 only seems light.  isn’t the theory to cover at least what the pp cost would be?  this has to cost people at least 100- a head nowadays, no?  when i got married, our standard gift was 100-150.  god, i hate weddings.

$100 is about right but it depends on the venue.  If it's a nice place and you think food/entertainment will be good, increase it.

Is this wedding in NY?

Surprised at the $100 is too low crowd. For a former co-worker? We're not talking family or close friend here.

I'm not of the opinion that they should pay for me to be there. I normally do what I can to get a sense of what they paid per plate and top it. I'll cap friends / acquaintances  at $250.  Family, there's room for more.

The hooplehead is trying to shake you down for money for his honeymoon, and you are considering sending some?  Are you nuts?

Send a lovely card and nothing else.

Figure out how much it will cost for you and your significant other to be there, and make sure it is at least that much.

Well, you did win boatloads in fantasy bases this summer, so maybe double up on the $100.
