What is Theo Riddick's role in the Lions offense? Should Bush/Bell (1 Viewer)

Does Riddick pose a legit threat to Bush/Bell? I'm hearing conflicting reports on how the Detroit backfield will be handled this season. I've read reports that suggest Riddick will get 50 catches and some goal line work and I've heard reports that he will be involved, but not a be major player.

Any Lion homers out there have an idea one way or the other? Should owners of Reggie Bush and Joique Bell be concerned? Is Riddick worth a ww pickup?

I don't think anyone knows for sure. The only thing we know is that all summer long there has been constant praise for Riddick. This isn't something new or just a guy that had a good week. He will be used. He will steal some receptions from Bell and Bush. I have a hard time believing anyone but Bell handles the GL work. Riddick is a small quick guy and Bell is the only Lion that really runs with authority and can move a pile or run through a defender.

Last year the Lions ran 1,079 plays and 634 were passes. I think if they are smart, they find a better balance. The strength of this team is the o-line and backfield, not Stafford. I would like to see more balance and get somewhere near 500 rushes.

I agree. I'm afraid they are going to a New Orleans style offense and Bush and Bell's numbers will be hurt.

Riddick was a bit unlucky that he was also injured along with Bell last week. Although he's more similar to Bush it could've been a chance for him to stake more of a claim.

The Lions also seemed to like what they saw of Goerge Wynn last week and he may get a few carries.

Not much value here aside from Bell, imo. Bush and Bell are RB2s when the other is out and RB3s when both fit.

Bush struggling for this week.

Terrible terrible Atlanta run D.

Riddick showed some skills two weeks ago when Bush was out and had 15 pts approx by the time he was pulled at half time.

Could be a sneaky play this week

Hoping you are wrong but you are probably on to something. Needing a big game from Joique but if this gets shoot-outy then Riddick could steal most of the passing down duties.

I was actually taken aback at how early and quickly we went to Riddick against Minnesota two weeks ago. Most his points came on the first couple of drives. If Reggie is out it seems like Riddick gets his full compliment these days. There's definitely probably value to both this week though. You'd have to imagine there's a fair chance we build up a lead and lean on Bell to eat the clock.

It would have been interesting if Riddick hadn't gotten injured during the Minnesota game though , cause then we would've seen how much they continued to use him compared to Bell right through to the games end as a better barometer.

Probably starting Riddick on one team as a flex this week. I will pull him if Bush is active but I will have to get up early to do so with the weird game time.

considering picking up riddick and playing over tre mason in std scoring.... playing a 2nd string RB against the falcons worked last week for me (Pierce) :)

I re-watched the Minnesota game from two weeks ago. Up until half time when Riddick was pulled due to re-injuring his hamstring, him and Bell were pretty much at an even split and the Lions also had quite a few snaps where they were both on the field.

I like what Riddick brings to the table and if we are without Reggie plus our TE situation with Pettigrew/Ebron/Fauria all out and of course Calvin, if the Minnesota game is anything to go by he could receive quite a few receptions on Sunday

Wasn't Joique just coming back from concussion protocol for the Viking game? I kinda remember it being iffy he was going to play or not that week. May not make a big difference tho.

He was two weeks removed from the concussion and didn't look to be limited/on a snap count. I remember watching that game thinking that Riddick looked better than I had remembered. Assuming his hamstring is all healed up, I envision him seeing similar usage this week.

So.....

I never ended up needing him, but this turned out quite well for anyone that started him.

As a Lions fan I'm actually at the point where I kind of prefer him to Bush. His hands seem safer in the catch and he's got a lot more mileage left of course.

Kind of feel like it would be a shame for Bush to come back in and marginalise him.

Agree with all of that. Almost a certainty that Bush comes back after the bye and mucks this up. Wondering if even Bush's value is now marginalized after they've seen Riddick performing well in crunch time.

Worth holding if possible to see how it shakes out because the schedule is money.

I imagine Bush will in fact marginalize him when he returns but Riddick is making things interesting from a dynasty angle, if he continues to make the most of his chances he might be able to push Reggie out of Detroit after this season.

IMO Riddick should be getting work over Bush but it seems unlikely.
Yep. We see it all the time. Explosive rookie/young guy versus aging vet. Seems obvious to us, coaches have different ideas.

All three are close to worthless in standard scoring, marginal Flex options in PPR. Last year both Bush and Bell were decent RB2s in PPR. That was a long time ago.

The 2014 Lions flat out cannot run the ball. Doesn't matter who is back there. Maybe when Calvin, Waddle and 1-3 TEs get healthy the offense becomes productive again. After week one they've been mediocre or worse. They're winning because they have a god defense, and in spite of PK woes. If they start scoring anything like Stafford led teams have in the past, they could make a serious run at grabbing a home playoff game spot.

But for FF purposes, this one seems like an avoid.

The Lions plan to use both Theo Riddick and Reggie Bush going forward.

Riddick has impressed in two games filling in for Bush, averaging 80 total yards. He's unlikely to see carries when Bush returns, but could factor in the pass game. Lions OC Joe Lombardi has a history of three-back committees and could use Riddick in a Darren Sproles role. Riddick is on the RB3/FLEX radar in PPR leagues. Oct 28 - 11:36 AM

Reggie Bush can`t play one full game without some sort of injury and this will probably be his last season as a Lion due to Riddick's development. I was listening to the Lions post game show last night and they seem to be high on Theo.

Did a Reggie cleanse on all teams where I had him, felt good. Happy to be aboard the Theo train, especially where I have him and he can be kept.

Bush a FA after the season, and Bell a total 4MM guaranteed money cap hit through 2016. Will be interesting to see how this backfield develops over the next few weeks.

Bush is signed through 2016.

Of course, that doesn't mean they can't cut him. And hopefully Riddick's emergence leads to just that.

Bush has been a tease all year. Nice to see the young Riddick step in and show how it's done. Bush's production doesn't warrant his pay. Hopefully they move on from him and Riddick gets the "Reggie Bush" role to himself.

Yep. I'd like to see Bush go tbh, elevate Riddick and draft a new RB to challenge Bell and Theo.

Also means very little financial outlay on our RBs if we do that.

I am a Bush owner who is taking a flier on Riddick. We have a deep bench league so can't hurt to hold on and see what happens. Neither Busj nor Bell have been perfect pictures of health.
