According to Giants.com staff writer Michael Eisen, receiver Plaxico Burress didn't practice again Friday because of back spasms and was downgraded to questionable.
He missed the entire week of practice. Another receiver, David Tyree, was upgraded to probable. He has an ankle injury.
Burress' availability for the Texans game will likely be determined Sunday morning.
"It's hard to predict what's going to happen with a back," head coach Tom Coughlin said. "I think yesterday he felt pretty good. He went ahead and tried to work and he just wasn't able to do it." Amani Toomer, the other starting wide receiver, was asked what would happen if Burress can't play. "We're going to miss him," Toomer said, "but we're going to have to find a way to win the game. "
The Giants and Burress were faced with a similar situation on Sept. 24 in Seattle. Burress didn't practice prior to the game because of back spasms. He played, but caught only one pass and fumbled the ball away in the Giants' 42-30 loss. Because of the injury, he spent the second half on the sideline.
Coughlin was asked if he's fearful of repeating that scenario.
"We'll see exactly where he is when it comes," Coughlin aid. "I'm sure it will be a game-time decision. If he's ready to go, then I'm confident that he can go and help us win."
I'll continue to watch for new developments on this one over the next two days, but the focus will be on Sunday morning. I will, of course, have his game-day status well in advance of kickoff.
