What is your favorite film Franchise? (1 Viewer)

Over the last few weeks I have gone back to watch the Mission Impossible franchise - and it got me thinking about all-time best film Franchises.

I think my favorite remains the Indiana Jones franchise - for me, enjoyable characters, settings that never make the move feel out of date, and overall decent story arcs.

Mission Impossible actually holds up well as an action/intrigue genre. The plots are somewhat predictable, yet, still kept me entertained.

I think for this - a franchise has to be at least 3 related movies - but otherwise can be broadly defined - so that franchises like MCU or Star Wars can be sub-divided into smaller units (i.e. Original trilogy, or MCU Phase 1, or IronMan, etc.

I think I'd probably have to go with James Bond. Obviously the quality is highly uneven, and the Craig era ended up being hugely disappointing because it seemed like there was a ton of potential there after Casino Royale. But even a comparatively bad Bond movie like Quantum of Silence or Diamonds are Forever or A View to a Kill or whatever is still completely watchable and entertaining. I also love going to back to the Connery-era movies to just soak them in as period pieces.

I pretty much agree with this. There have been a few duds, but for the most part, this franchise is spot on

It’s tough to say for sure but the top 3:

Star Wars, mostly due to nostalgia. Which fits most guys my age.

Harry Potter - they’re not holiday movies but our traditions for the last X years has been to watch these over the break. I reread the books when COVID started, might need to again sometime.

MCU - up to end game, you simply can’t find a better franchise. IW and EG are the best movies, including lead up, ever made. They weren’t “perfect” but they are the best.

As an 80's kid I'm going to have to go with Star Wars and Dr. Jones. Though my gulity pleasure goes to the Mummy franchise, ya know the Brendon Fraizer ones from the late 90's-early 200's

I'm not sure about the entire series - 3 is just ok and 4 is not very good. But my favorite movie is Lethal Weapon 2. It's such a great, funny movie filled with awesome action and a beautiful girl. And a villain we can all rally around hating.

Lord of the Rings
Godfather (1 and 2 make this a no broiner even if you despise 3)
Rocky
Star Wars (this would be much higher on the list with just the OT and Prequels)

Godfather (1 and 2 make this a no broiner even if you despise 3)

Years ago I had bought a box set of the 3 just to have the first 2 movies. I think I finally watched #3 during covid. Wasn't as bad as I had heard, but wasn't that great either. But yeah, 1 and 2 carry enough weight to include it here.

MCU is my favorite. But will watch any of these:

Mission Impossible, LOTR, Fast and Furious, Harry Potter, Star Wars., Indy Jones, John Wick

Also enjoy some of the Die Hards, Lethal Weapons, Bourne, Bond.....

Sofia and her hair flips destroyed 3 for me. Otherwise, decent.

Most of the best ones have been named already. I’d probably say Back to the Future was the most consistently good franchise. Most of the other big franchises had a dud or two in there.

It probably wasn’t on its own, but the Cobra Kai series re-contextualized and elevated the Karate Kid movies into the conversation. It even kind of redeemed Part 3 some which should have been impossible.

That series was unwatchable.
"Even the shows or episodes of everything Karate Kid that I haven't particularly liked, I still found so much joy in them. Have some joy dudes. It's not that serious of a thing."

Touche. But seriously Cobra Kai was bad
