Kraft Singles grilled cheese - Self explanatory
Creamed Turkey on toast w/ salt and pepper - I look forward to this more than I do the actual turkey sometimes.

You can be well-off enough that you don't need to eat these things but it's crazy how you crave those kinds of meals sometimes. Maybe it's nostalgia.

Not sure where you live but what does a creamy tomato spaghetti sauce jar cost? In the early 2000s when I was in university, a can of condensed soup cost 50 cents Canadian. I wasn't getting a jar of spaghetti sauce for a dollar for sure.

Buddig thin sliced deli meat rolled up in a Kraft single was my go-to after school snack. Usually on my sandwich at lunch as well.

I shudder to think of all the additives and processing that goes into that snack---not to mention the sodium load

I'd eat a plateful at a time.

If you look at my blood under a microscope, instead of red blood cells there's millions of microscopic cheese curds.

As a kid I remember my parents buying 10 packs of dogs and 8 packs of buns, so if I wanted those last 2 hot dogs it was time to get the loaf of bread out.

4. On the flip side, at the top of the list of things I liked as a kid, revisited as an adult and couldn't reconnect with is Underwood Deviled Ham. My dad used to make deviled ham sandwiches for lunch at work for years in an effort to save money, and like with pistachios and mint chocolate chip ice cream, I wanted to eat what he did, so I found the sweet spot where just enough of its saltiness was still blunted by the bread. I found it still exists in the stores (for ~$3/can, so much for budget friendly) and tried some for old times' sake.

I haven't eaten any of them in a while, but my Dad packed a lot of Potted Meat for lunch. A lot of the Underwood Deviled Ham and the Underwood Chicken stuff too.

Delicious. And you are so right about finding the bread sweet spot to blunt saltiness.

Yep. The poor man's spaghetti sauce is ketchup.
Obviously, not talking about that high dollar Heinz either.
Really, meaning stolen ketchup packets.

My best friend's mom did this growing up.

"Poor" isn't the right word. Paid for their nice suburban house in under 10 years, vehicles always in cash, college for all the kids paid for in cash. On a single book keepers salary.

A big reason was his Mom was the most frugal woman I've ever met.

He loved coming to my house, where we had delicious food and credit card debt.

French onion dip and Ruffles. When I was younger I would eat the whole 8 oz container of dip. Now it makes me bloated. My dad still always had a container in the fridge.

Rarely. I like it in milk because it is a rare cereal i can eat since I can't stand any sogginess with cereal.

My mom used to make extra mashed potatoes. She would form them into patties for dinner the next day. Make bacon, fry those patties, eggs, mushrooms, and sausages. The English breakfast for dinner (with baked beans), as god intended.

We are on opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to spuds. I take a small spoonful of them at holiday dinners, but otherwise I avoid them. I think I od'ed on them as a kid because my Mom used to make them a lot.
My wife inherited from her Mom the inclination to make enough mashed potatoes for a football team as part of the meal. My comment is usually "Damn taters!".

I usually do that as my appetizer for when I make a sandwich. Make the sandwich (with the meat and cheese) then take a slice of meat and wrap in in the cheese and eat that prior to the sandwich.

It's a variation of tuna casserole. It's wonderful. Total comfort.

I also remember a long time ago (we have been together over 30 years), she would make this other dish only when I travelled because I thought it was disgusting and it made the apartment smell bad.

It required a double-boiler. Put in one can of oysters, some milk and butter. Salt and pepper to taste.
