What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (4 Viewers)

Just reading up on the Pliny beers. OMG, I have to try these things. If I love this GI Imperial, then these two sound like heaven. Elder in particular sounds yummy. WTF doesn't the brewery ship to Illinois? I am told they ship in Indiana of all ####### places. I mean seriously, I can see avoiding Wisconsin. It's ####### Wisconsin after all. But Chicago? C'mon. I should have given Vinny an earful when I had him on the phone today. Actually, he was really nice. So I would never have said anything bad. But still, bummer that it can't be had here.

:confused: Their gift shop website says they'll ship to Illinois, but not to Indiana. Hell, NOBODY ships beer to Indiana (not officially, anyway); not legal to ship directly to consumers, 'cuz the distributors have to get their cut.

Now, if you mean they distribute to Indiana retailers, but not to Illinois retailers, that's a possibility, but I've never seen RR beers in any store here. I think I mentioned it yesterday to the manager of a store in Indy (with a GREAT selection, btw), and he said he'd love to get them, but he can't.

Maybe that's Stone I'm thinking of then. I'm so confused. Haven't tried anything from either, so no difference yet.

Yeah, none of the Pliney beers are bottled. The only beers that they bottle are the Belgians (-tion beers) that can be aged.As for seeing their beers in stores, good luck. I live an 1.5 hours away from the brewery, and have only stumbled by their bottles a few times. I get mine like everyone else here. I order them online.

I saw Damnation in the store yesterday but didn't get it. I should probably go get one since I haven't ever tried it.

By "ship to", I meant "sell in stores". They most certainly "ship" here, as I already ordered a couple from them. Misuse of the term on my part. By FatMax's reckoning, they don't sell bottles much anywhere. Plus, I know Stone doesn't sell here either. So I'm doubly :sadbanana:
 
Just got back from a Bachelor party up in SF. Had 30 minutes to kill so stopped by Toronado for a pint. Lucky for me they had Death and Taxes on tap...first time in over a decade I've had the honor of drinking that beer.

What DIDN'T I drink last night... started with a McNeill's Summer Bitter (meh), 2005 Ithaca Double IPA (stunning), Carolina Spring Bock (still a bit sweet for my tastes), two glasses of Three Fox Vineyards 2004 Il Volpe Sangiovese with the grilled leg of lamb (that began the downfall) and a bottle of the Terrapin Wake-And-Bake Coffee Oatmeal Impy stout for dessert (really dug this one).

Couldn't remember if it was wine before beer or wine after beer that makes you feel like ####, so I covered both. Don't do this to yourself.

Greetings from Chicago. Got in about 9 last night. Went to Charlie's Ale House for dinner. Had a couple Two Brothers Cane & Ebel's with dinner. Nice beer, but could use a little more rye imo.

Then I came back to the in laws house and checked out the beer. They usually have stuff left over from whenever I was in last since no one else will drink it. Some good finds. DFH Au Courant, SN Celebration 2003 and 2004, Anchor Xmas 2004 and 2005. All that without having to even go to the liquor store. Some might have to make the trip back to my cellar.

 
I had a SN Bigfoot 06 last night as I was finishing "dinner" (pizza). Have to admit that the first experience wasn't good. But then again, I had already sent my taste buds home for the night. I suspect this one is jsut fine as the first beer of the night, but probably a bit too sharp just after eating or drinking IPAs. Also coul dbe tha tI have to let the rest age for a spell too.

 
Bell's Cherry stout is growing on me. Im really starting to dig the slight tartness that mingles with the roastiness of the stout. I wish I had more than 2 bottles left. Id love to try it on draft.

Tonight Im gonna try a New Holland Mad Hatter IPA and Arcadia IPA.

You can definitely lay the Bigfoot down for a while. I just spotted a couple bottles of '98 in my "cellar" :excited:

I put 4 of them in the cellar downstairs, and have one more to decide what to do with. Might give it to a friend who will cellar it most likely. We'll see, but I am looking forward to seeing how this one goes a few years from now.ETA:

I guessed that my aversion to the 2006 was the heavy alcohol taste and smell in it at this point. Went to BA and read the reviews, and sure enough that is a theme running through most reviews. Seems that at about the 3yr mark is when the beer ages best, as far as balancing the other flavors and the alcohol.

And in case anyone needs to ask, I have yet to post my first review on BA. That's a combination of two factors: (1) I suspect that I will get a talking-to if I don't adhere to whatever review rules they have, and (2) After reading many of the reviews, I think I figured out that I am a "closet beer snob". Bottom line is that I really have zero interest in breaking down a beer in anything other than rudimentary terms. For their purposes, that seems completely inadequate. Some time, I'll post my first review, and from there probably a lot more. Just not yet...

Had 2 Lagunitas Sirius with dinner. If you like hoppy beers, this would be right up your alley. Pushing 7 percent alcohol, and you can taste it in it's fullness.

Had a Liefman's Frambois Lambic for 'dessert'. Wow. I've had the Kriek and the Goudenbond, but this was my first attempt at the raspberry. Excellent.

Edmund Fitz Porter right now. Had not tried it before. I like it. Had the SN Porter before and was largely unimpressed. This seems to have a different, and better, taste to it. I know Skylord or someone gave some notes on this one before in this thread. Don't recall any of the notes, but I like it. And that's good enough for me.

Holy crap. Very good beer. A little on the expensive side though, but the store I bought it from tends to be a bit pricey.

Batch 007 by the way, so it's about 8 months old. It would be nice to try it aged a little longer. Or in other words I need to go back and get another. :thumbup:

 
Arcadia IPA. It has alot of brown specks floating in it, like really small grains of sand, suspended in the liquid and converging at the bottom. Frreaky.

 
Im losing my love for all things hoppy. I think Ive overindulged over the last year and a half and I find myself not being in a hoppy mood at all lately. IPAs just dont sound good to me in the last month or so. I may have to turn in my hophead card for a while. Right now, its all about the roastiness of stouts and the sweetness of hefes.

Ive been told that I will burn myself out on hoppy beers within 2 years, and I think its starting to happen. And that sucks cause I have a ton of hoppy beers around the house but keep reaching for other styles.

I guess thats the cool thing about the many different styles of beer -- if you get sick of one for a while, theres plenty of others to drink in the meantime.

It happens. While I'll still have an IPA here and there, summer always turns me towards hefe's, belgians and bocks. Maybe even a pilsner or lager. I am absolutely loving bocks right now, especially maibocks, especially May Bock from Southampton. :wub:

TT,If you find any in bottles, you should snap them up. Most of the places around here are out of Dreadnaught now. Buy them, love them, drink send them to 3C's...
