What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (2 Viewers)

Went to the Real Ale Anniversary Party today. Huge crowd. No Pierre Celis. Had the Pale Rye (which is probably the best non-seasonal brew produced in Texas), Fireman #4, and Pale Rye on cask, which was a neat treat.

just killed an enormous dinner at a local Italian dive. good stuff.

drinking a 22oz Moylan's Kilt Lifter based off of FatMax's recommendation.

Belgians!

- 3 Floyds Rabbid Rabbit Saison

- Cantillon Bruocsella (1900) Grand Cru

- Houblon Chouffe Dubbelen IPA Tripel

- Another big-hoppy Tripel whose name eludes me for the moment

The Houblon Chouffe is an incredible beer. A Belgian tripel, with the attendant candi sugar and yeast notes, combined with the bitterness and dry-hopping of a double IPA. I drank this 3+ hours ago, and am still stunned by it.

I thought it was pretty good too, but I wish it featured something other than noble hops. To me, it tasted like a mad scientist crossed a Tripel and a good German Pilsner. The hops, IMO, were more spicey than bitter.

Well?
3.65it came across as very plain. nothing really stood out to me. i followed it with a Founders Red Rye that was pretty damned tasty.. and then a Tyranena Stone Tepee that, for some reason, tasted like ####.

i'm thinking it's possible that the dinner destroyed my taste buds..

Greetings from California. Back from vacation, time to see whats in the fridge.

Weyerbacher Insanity will do the job nicely.

SEASONAL RELEASE: SUMMER YULESMITH

It's time to celebrate Christmas in July! AleSmith's popular seasonal ale, YuleSmith, is brewed twice a year in two different styles. The summer version is an Imperial/Double India Pale Ale designed to showcase the incredible flavor and aroma of American hops. A substantial maltiness provides a firm backdrop for the big hop profile that follows. Copper colored and full bodied, Summer YuleSmith is a classic example of the modern Double IPA style. We will be having a YuleSmith bottle release Friday, June 23 at 2:00pm. You'll definitely want to get your hands on the summer version, so don't miss out. Look for the familiar YuleSmith label dressed in red and blue for the summer at your favorite pub or store around July 1st. We'll brew YuleSmith again in a few months for the winter season (The winter style for YuleSmith is an Imperial/Double Red Ale).

BARREL-AGED SPEEDWAY '04 RELEASE

It's time again to roll out another beer in the AleSmith barrel-aged series: Barrel-aged Speedway Stout 2004. Patiently aged in the barrel, Speedway Stout reaches a level of complexity that can only be achieved from this manner of conditioning. Barrel-aged Speedway Stout reached the #1 position on http://www.ratebeer.com/'s Top 50 Beer List in 2003. The individually numbered bottles will be available for purchase on Saturday July 1st at 1pm. Due to the rare nature of this beer, purchases will be limited to two bottles per person.

Pump Station Kickass Brown. Gonna kill this growler tonight if it kills me. Not that it's a difficult task, mind you... :banned:

Ok, back to the beer. Epic got even better as it warmed up. Stone website mentioned something about how good it will be in another 6 years. Don't know if I can wait that long. 6 months sounds more likely.
Store a beer for 6 years?
Here's the quote:"I think that this will probably peak a little after 12.12.12, but should be mighty tasty delicious round that time too."

I doubt I'll wait that long. Hell, I could be dead by then.
Where the heck can I get a couple of those? I would love to try one now and cellar that one for that long just to see what happened to the beer.
 If you can get other Stone brews you should see it soon. Just arrived here this week.
In Illinois, I can not get a damn thing. Maybe I should stop in IN on my way to Mi this weekend..... No clue where. All the stops along the way are no larger than Granger, IN. And that ain't big.
Liquor Stop in Munster has all kinds of Stone.

Drinking a coors light :bag:

Hear me out though...Im still a bit sick, and cant taste much......so, I figure if Im gonna drink a beer I cant taste, I might as well not waste a good beer, and instead drink one that doesnt have any taste to begin with. No way would I drink an IPA that cant be enjoyed...

So back off on the bashing!!!! :boxing:

Anyone willing to pick one of these up for me? I am sure I could find something good for a trade.

this guy old enough to drink? his reviews read like a 3rd grade fill-in-the-blanks essay.

nlmartin ( Cincinnati, Ohio )

overall: 4.1

appearance: 3.5 | smell: 4 | taste: 4.5 | mouthfeel: 4 | drinkability: 4

This beer was purchased at Jungle Jims for $8.99. The beer was served in a wide mouthed wine goblet.

Appearance: The beer is majorly cloudy and hazy amber coloration. The beer has huge amounts of sediment floating about in the glass. The beer almost looks like a bad urine culture. The head of the beer is off white. The head didnt last long. The beer left major streaks of lacing on the glass.

Smell: The beer hasa a bit of bitter sweet cocoa blending with farmhouse musty/ funkyness. The chilis close out the smell with pepperyness.

Taste: The beer proceeds to lead with a bitter semi-sweet maltyness. This gives way to the funkyness of farmhouse yeastyness. The beer has an unidentifiable fruityness berries perhaps? The beer finishes on a dry note with faint pepper.

Mouthfeel/ Drinkability: The body of the beer is light. The beer has a very active carbonation. This beer is definately an odd ball. I would happily try this beer again. Fantome as usual delivers a first rate saison.

Well, got back from Cincinatti yesterday, and brought home several good beers from my stops along the way. The bad news is that I could not find any Dreadnaught. The good news however, is that I picked up at least one of:

Bells Oberon (had one last night, refreshing wheat beer)

Bells Two Hearted Ale

Bells Expedition Stout

Jolly Pumpkin La Roja

Breckenridge 471 Small Batch IPA

Stone IPA

Stone Vertical Epic 06/06/06

AleSmith Speedway Stout

Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA

Goose Island DIPA

We also picked up a couple of growlers at a beer store in Kentucky that has a rotating draft list (that at one time included Stone Double *******). Really good deal. I got a growler of Eliot Ness from Great Lakes for $5.99 and a growler of Kentucky Bourbon Aged Ale for $8.99. It seems Kentucky has some of the more liberal beer laws in the country (go figure). I also was able to have Stone IPA and Arrogant ******* on tap at a beer bar in Newport Kentucky before the concert (during which I was forced to drink a PBR).

Anyone heard anything more about that special anniversary edition Abt 12?
Late June. :drool:St. Bernardus Abt 12 - SPECIAL EDITION

Year 2006 marks the 60th Anniversary of the brewery St. Bernard, which was created in 1946 and its sole purpose was to commercially brew until 1992 St. Sixtus Trappist Abbey brands. St. Bernardus Abt 12 is still made according to the same original recipe from 1946 and is recognized as one of the best ales in the world. This Special Edition of Abt 12 will be available in an attractive metal container and was brewed for that occasion by brew master Bert Van Hecke. Bert is paying tribute not only to the brewery, but also to the hop growers from Poperinge region of West Flanders by using their Challenger and Golding hops together with black, amber, Munich and pale ale malts. This one-time only Limited Edition of St. Bernardus Abt 12 will be available starting in late June 2006 until is completely sold out.
Just a friendly reminder that it is very close to 'late June', so you all may want to keep an eye out for this in the next couple of weeks. No reviews at BA yet, so I am assuming that it still hasn't gotten here.On a side note, I leave for Cincy tommorow. I will definitely be getting my hands on several beers that I have never had before, including the Dreadnaught (hopefully), Bell's Two-Hearted Ale, Goose Island DIPA, some Founders, and some Great Lakes.

What are the best online site to order from. I've seen Liquid Solutions mentioned but what are the options.
Aside from Archer and Liquid Solutions, are there any other good "mail order" beer stores?

I never worried too much, because of Indiana's stone-age beer laws, but I do have friends in IL and OH who would be willing to "receive".

Liquid Solutions has a number of beers I can't get here or within driving distance. I've tried or heard good things about these, any others to look for?

- Alaskan

- Ale Smith

- Deschutes

- Lagunitas

- Mad River

- Marin

- Moylan's
John's Grocery is worth checking out. I made my first online order with them Monday and received it today! Prices were cheaper than Liquid Solutions and the freight was a lot cheaper also (I live in TN and John's is in Iowa so it's a lot closer to me than Liquid Solutions).

Here's what I got --> :pics: :pics: :pics:

that place is horrible.

you can't even make a play on words w/o someone saying something smarmy.. jeebus.. it's like they grew up without ever being introduced to anything that might be called humorous.

i posted to ask if anyone had seen the 60th Anniversary St Bernardus in the US yet... JorisP responded to say he wasn't sure but the last he checked it was still in barrels (is he a St B's brewer or something?). so i said something like "oh... so no chance that it's hit the US then, huh?"

in sort of a self-deprecating smack on the forehead.

some idiot responds with a "Joris' response wasn't good enough for you? You're going to have to learn to be patient and not such a ####" or some such.

i understand geeks in any niche tend to be uber-serious about their chosen craft but... holy ####... lighten up a little. i've seen other people ask innocuous questions and be shot down by several BA's who just don't seem to understand what it means to be funny.

That's why I don't post there much and post here too much. It's just no fun over there. It's all business. It is good for facilitating trades over there though.
