What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (2 Viewers)

i'd say bring it up with the Alstrom's but they'd either ignore you or ban you.
Ban is more likely.
 I've asked them tons of questions in the past. Sometimes, like today and two weeks before/after for example, there's no way they'll get back to anyone. I've met them many times in person (worked a few fests) and they're both good guys. They run that site very strictly as they're trying to develop a brand/name/market image for essentially being one of the leading voices of the craft beer movement, and tolerate even less BS than Joe does for that reason.
they can run it however they want.. i have no problems with that. it's a good site and all.. but they barely even tolerate questions. it's weird.i PM'd one of the brothers an innocuous question and got a pretty curt, "angry", response. whatever, they can do as they see fit.

Founders Red's Rye

Really good beer.
Reminds me again how much I'm digging rye in beer. Hope to hit Offshore Ale on Martha's Vineyard in a couple of months and gorge myself on their Rye Pils.

Probably Todd. He can be a bit "curt" at times. ;) Like Bakes said, they're nice in person.

I have a new friend and her name is Pilsner Urquell.
Apparently the local distributor is only going to get this in 12 packs from now on so many of the better beer stores that don't have space won't be carrying it anymore. No biggie to me. I'm not a Czech Pilsner fan.

Not a huge loss, imo.

STOP THE PRESSES

Beatification available at Russian River brewing website for shipment!
Saw this yesterday afternoon. Certainly not cheap, but I will probably have to order some.
Just placed my order on the phone with Vinny the Owner. Was having trouble with the order online, so he called me back. FYI, if anyone has an AVS error it is due to the address and credit card info not being EXACTLY THE SAME as what your card issuer has. Apparently, they have things set up to thwart fraud and the order gets DK'd if any single thing is off. ANYTHING. He took my order over the phone though. I got 3 of each and figured I can cellar a couple of each for some time to see how it ages.

(1)Abita 20th Anniversary Pilsner

(1)SNPA

The Abita Pilsner has suprised me....REALLY good stuff.

Last night I had an Abita Turbodog and Cream Ale at the Abita brewpub.

I think I'm going to have another GI Imperial. I have had the smell in my nose for a couple days now. ANd today was a tough day around here. It's Imp time.....

Always a good choice.
I better watch my step though. Only have 12 or 13 more of those downstairs. Then it's waiting until they release more. Can't seem to find that any more around these here parts.I think this is fast becoming my favorite beer. I literally have had the smell of this beer in my nose for days. Always look forward to this one. :)

Just reading up on the Pliny beers. OMG, I have to try these things. If I love this GI Imperial, then these two sound like heaven. Elder in particular sounds yummy. WTF doesn't the brewery ship to Illinois? I am told they ship in Indiana of all ####### places. I mean seriously, I can see avoiding Wisconsin. It's ####### Wisconsin after all. But Chicago? C'mon. I should have given Vinny an earful when I had him on the phone today. Actually, he was really nice. So I would never have said anything bad. But still, bummer that it can't be had here.

started out with a Sam SMith Taddy Porter   , followed it up with a couple of bombers of DEad Guy Ale  and now working on a few Weihenstephaner dunkel weizens.

That's good stuff. The Samual Smith is good. Dead Guy Ale is on sale here, but haven't gotten around to trying it yet. I'm still exploring the really hoppy beers for now...

I'm not a fan of the hoppy stuff yet. Maybe someday.

the guy who owns the beer store said something about the Weihenstephaner beers being no longer available. I asked him if he meant becasue of local distribution or something else but he didn't seem to know (could also be I can't always understand his heavy accent  ).

just polished a Slab City Milkhouse Stout. very interesting. fruity and crisp. not at all what i expected. pretty good.. not great but very drinkable.

what did you think of the Rogue hefe? The stuff I've read have not been real positive.I was thinking a few days ago about what really got me exploring different beers. It was two things - you guys here and back in January I was meeting my friends at a bar to talk about next year's football season. Abita Turbodog was on special so I decided to try it. I really liked it and that's what kinda got me started in trying other beers besdies Bud Light. I guess if I would have thought it was nasty I might still be sticking to Bud Select.

AFAIK, they don't bottle Pliny. :( I've had them. Very very good. Can't remember for sure which one I liked more, but I'm pretty sure it was Younger.

Dead Guy is really good, if you like the style. I think it and SNPA were 2 of my staples when I was first getting into good beers. I'm having a maibock myself right now. St. Boisterous. It's pretty damn good. Not as good as my current favorite of the style, Southampton May Bock. That one is really good.

Forgot to mention that when I was perusing the beer store I come across a 6 pack of Okocim. I get a little excited remembering about how good some guys here said the porter is. But it wasn't the porter. It was some sort of ale. I asked if they could get the porter since they had this ale. He's driving up north to pick up some other beers and picked up the ale. Didn't see any porter.

:wall: <- for Gator. :bye:

drinking the wife's Lindemans Kriek now. Man this stuff is like drinking fruit juice! :banned:
Hey Fuller, long time no see. Never would have guessed you for a fruit juicer. I'm in the mix bag here too - Shiner Bock, Capt. Morgan, Miller Lite, Merlot. Think I'll save the Jack for breakfast. :excited:

ran out of my beer. :bag: where the hell have you been?

Was headed to the Mulberry about 2 months back but the f'er was almost dry. Had to go east to the Ocoee for rafting instead.

I'm not sure but I think life happened. I bought a kayak about 6 mos back and have been cruising around mostly in the salt. The maiden voyage though was on a river during the white bass run. My canoe buddy from MO was in town last weekend, we looked at some old photos from the Mulberry and Buffalo. Good times.

Nice. I'm still trying to convince some of my canoe buddies into all of us buying yaks, but so far no luck.

Just googled the ocoee...dayum! What part of the state is that? I have another friend in Knoxville I could stay with. Class 3-4 rapids year round? I need to check into this more. oh, and as to not hijack, I just took a drink of beer. Miller Lite.

SE corner of the state just outside of Chatanooga.Pretty neat system. The river is dam controlled and part of the TVA (electric company). They "shutdown" the river every night (the river bed is dry at night) and they pump all the water back upstream to release again the next morning.

ETA- the 96 Olympics held events on the upper Ocoee. There is a 1/4mile stretch of continuous class IV on it.

 Their gift shop website says they'll ship to Illinois, but not to Indiana. Hell, NOBODY ships beer to Indiana (not officially, anyway); not legal to ship directly to consumers, 'cuz the distributors have to get their cut.

Now, if you mean they distribute to Indiana retailers, but not to Illinois retailers, that's a possibility, but I've never seen RR beers in any store here. I think I mentioned it yesterday to the manager of a store in Indy (with a GREAT selection, btw), and he said he'd love to get them, but he can't.

so I'm :sadbanana: with you

They aren't in any retail outlets I believe. I am almost sure that both Plinys are on tap/growlers only also.

I checked the website. Outside of CA, the show "limited" distribution to PA & DC.Within CA, they have charts showing where IPA, Pliny, and a couple others are available, coded either "X" or "B". Not sure what those mean (X = draft, B = bottle?) Damnation and "other special/seasonal" were the only ones with any "B" codes.

In any case, highly unlikely the rest of the country is going to stumble across these brews.

Road trip?

Luckily, one of the good beer guys here hooked me up with Pliny the Elder. :banned:

furley, looks like you have been into the stouts lately when reading your reviews at BA. Is that normal, or are you just starting to get into them?

long before i discovered the world of craft beer i loved the stout beers. at least those that i could find.. of course Guinness.. but Murphy's also and i'd always order the brewpub stout if available. thinking that's why i'm having some difficulty getting in to the hoppy beers. my tastebuds just aren't geared for it yet.
