What kind of interesting facts can you share about your favorite team that not many people know about?

For example...

Carolina: Did you know that John Kasay is the only player currently on the Panthers that was a member of the team in it's innaugural season?

Another Carolina: Did you know, you are not allowed to take your shirt off at Bank of America Stadium. Security will throw you out.

Pittsburgh has officially only retired one jersey number: #70 (DT Ernie Stautner). There are a few that are unofficially retired: 12 (Bradshaw), 32 (Harris), 58 (Lambert) and 75 (Greene).

My guess is that it will be a long time until we see another player wearing #36 for the Steelers...

Good. No need for shirtless fans, unless they're women.I wish Fenway Park would enforce a similar policy. No one wants to see some dude's man boobs and disgusting physique. I came here to watch a football game, not to be disgusted. Cover that #### up.

I've mentioned this before, but Leon Washington, one of the key rising stars for the new and improved Jets, was drafted with the compensation pick for, yes, the departure of one Herm Edwards.

Since Belichick took over as head coach the Patriots have never lost two consecutive games...

What?...when?...d'oh :wall:

1) The St. Louis Rams Franchise actually originated in St. Louis. The team went under and they sold everything pertaining to the team a guy in Chicago. The team eventually moved to Cleveland and then to LA.

2) The Rams Franchise was the first franchise to paint a logo on the helmet

For you Pittsburgh homers, the Steelers are the only franchise with an asymetrical helmet. The logo is only on 1 side.

Hey Wheel, Here's a few more Panther ones for you:

1) Rucker takes on an internship with a different company each off-season to learn about business and prepare himself for a life after football.

2) Fox & Trgovac live in Ballantyne. so does, Jeff Garcia and he is a great golfer.

3) TE coach Dave Magazu has a son playing for Providence that will go to BC on scholarship. Ricky Proehl thinks he's got the skills to be a very good D1 player.

4) VaTech Coach Frank Beamer's daughter works for the Panthers, too.

The 1978 Patriots hold the NFL season rushing record of 3,165 yards (in 14 games) despite not having a single 1000 yard rusher that year.

Jack Del Rio is stealing money from Mr. Weaver. That guy is so over-rated as a coach. How does one get swept by the Texans?!?!

In the most lopsided game in NFL history, the Chicago Bears beat the Washington Redskins 73-0 to win the NFL championship in 1940.

I'm having a heck of a time finding a link but;

During the Vike vs. Pack game yesterday they said only two players have stared more games in a row then Brett Favre.. and both were from the vikings.

Mick Tinglehoff & Jim Marshall.. and from my memory Favre was something like 50-60 games away from the top.

I think you will like this, Wheelhouse.

Anyone who watched the Eagles-Redskins game probably knows this, but they said that the Redskins were the first team to ever score 22 points in 3 consecutive games.

22-25 vs. Tennessee

22-36 vs. Indianapolis

22-19 vs. Dallas

AFL Champions:

Code:
Team Appearances Wins First	Last Houston Oilers 3 2 1960	1961 Dallas Texans* 1 1 1962	1962 San Diego Chargers** 4 1 1963	1963 Buffalo Bills 2 2 1964	1965 Boston Patriots*** 1 0 - - * The Houston Texans are now the Kansas City Chiefs ** The San Diego Chargers first win came as the Los Angeles Chargers *** The Boston Patriots are now the New England Patriots
NFL Superbowls for the Bills = 0 for 4, AFL Championships 2 for 2

Some Steeler info:

*During World War II in 1943 the Steelers and Eagles merged because they had lost a lot of players to the war and they were unoffically known as the Steagles. Also the Steelers were originally known as the Pirates due to Art Rooneys love baseball but due to confusion he changed the name to Steelers.

*Art Rooney funded the purchase of the Steelers from money won betting on horses.

*The Steel symbol located on the Steeler helmet actually comes courtesy of a Steel company from....Cleveland.

Jacksonville Punter Chris Hanson is the only player to receive first- and second-degree burns on his body from a fondue accident followed by chopping himself with an axe (that Jack Del Rio brought in to the locker room as a motivation tool) a year later.

Actually, I don't know that he is the only player to ever to this...but I'm pretty sure.

I also believe Thomas Jones (currently with the Chicago Bears) is the only player to brake his hand while answering the phone (in 2002 when he was playing for the Arizona Cardinals).

The Houston Texans had the current longest away losing streak at 12 games until this weekend when they beat the Jaguars. The last time the Texans won away was in Jacksonville in December of 2004 when they knocked the Jags from playoff contention.

Over the course of the Texans 5 year history they are 21-52. 6 of the wins, nearly one-third (28.5%) have been against the Jaguars.

Hmmm, interesting factoid. I did not know that.

That was the longest CURRENT road losing streak - but it wasn't the longest ever. The longest road losing streak in NFL history was set by the Lions in 2004.

They lost 24 straight road games, before finally beating the Bears, 20-16, on 12-Sept-2004.

Soldier Field was built to honor the soldiers of WWI. The largest football crowd was 123,000 for ND-USC in 1927. In the 40's drew 120,000+ for the Chicago city league championships.

When Javon Walker ran for the 72 yards yard TD against the Steelers, it was the longest touchdown run by a non-RB in the NFL in nearly 7 years. On 12.18.1999, WR Derrick Alexander of the chiefs had an 82 yard TD run...against the Steelers. :wall:

This is probably pretty well known, but the New Orleans Saints' very first play in franchise history was a kickoff return for a touchdown.

It's been all downhill since...

I think this one is obvious after watching the 1st few minutes of the MNF. The Tampa Bay Bucs have never returned a kickoff for a TD.

Go for it, Wheelhouse.

The Patriots lost 18* straight times in Miami, spanning 20 years. They finally broke the spell in, of all games, the AFCCG prior to SB20.

Of course the win denied the country of a rematch between the juggernaut Bears and the only team to defeat them that year and instead provided 3+ hours of perhaps the worst football (by one team) in Super Bowl history. But at least they broke that damn losing streak  .

* EIGHTEEN!

When the St. Louis Rams defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 1999 NFC Championship game, it was the only game in NFL history that ended 11-6.

The Buccaneers' all-time record for most TDs in one season is 13. That record will be 22-years-old after this season. LaDainian Tomlinson has beaten that record every year of his career (including this one) except for his rookie season, when he only scored 10.

I'm assuming you mean rushing TD's?

Nope. This is Tampa Bay we're talking about. That doesn't count passing TDs, of course-- but rushing/receiving. Any combination. The record for this 30-year-old-franchise is...13.

Wow - that's hard to believe. I mean they won the SB

The Houston Texans hold the NFL record for the fewest yards gained in a victory during the regular season. In fact, they had less than half the total yards (47) the Oakland Raiders had in their victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers this season (98). Coincedentally, the Texans' record-setting victory in 2002 was also against the Steelers.

Reminds me that in the 2003 playoffs the Panthers scored exactly 29 points in 3 of the 4 games they played:Panthers 29 Cowboys 10Panthers 29 Rams 23Panthers 14 Eagles 3Patriots 32 Panthers 29

jim irsay stole the colts after being in baltimore for 40 years. he tried to force baltimore to replace memorial stadium which was an institution. so in the middle of a terrible snow storm he packed the team up and snuck away in the dead of night to indianapolis. baltimore didnt have the luxury of having their name and records held in a trust for a new team should there ever be one. ironically cleveland did have that luxury when the ravens took their team. but when the commentators say peyton manning just passed johnny unitas for a QB record it makes we wanna ####### vomit. johnny U lived in, played in, loved, and retired in balimore. johnny came to ravens games, not colts games. johnny and the colts' records are baltimore's and robert irsay should rot in hell for all eternity. also john elway since his being a little ##### and saying he wouldnt come to the colts when they drafted him directly contributed to the loss of the baltimore colts. john elway should've went and played baseball like he had claimed he would if the colts didnt allow another team to have him. john elway, the original eli "dont draft me" manning.

the curse of johnny U will forever keep the colts from winning a championship. and you all thought it was because manning is a choke artist in big games.

The Kansas City Chiefs team name has nothing to do with native american tribe leaders. Lured from Dallas by Kansas City mayor H. Roe "Chief" Bartle in 1963, owner Lamar Hunt changed the team's name from Texans to Chiefs in his honor.
