What kinds of worksheets do you provide for people at the draft (1 Viewer)

Dentist

***Official FBG Dentist***
I do NOT play in shark leagues. i play in donkey leagues with friends with live drafts and stuff.

I do my absolute best to provide them with the most information I can to keep the worst of the donkeys at least somewhat competitive.. or at least show i'm doing my best to help them so that they stay in the league.

What worksheets do you provide (and send links to any good ones you might have that are free)

In the past I have provided:

1) A Bye Week Sheet

2) A copy of our scoring system and lineup requirements

3) A Worksheet to track their players broken down by position (the best one i've found is actually at fftoday)

4) The sharks won't like this, but I do provide an up to the day VBD cheetsheet from FBG's.. usually printed from the dominator.

5) I always have a few mags laying around (both pr0n and FFL)

6) I generally print out one copy of the most up to date injury report from sportsline to have laying around.

Do you guys do anything else, or have any other worksheets you find helpful to give out?

I "commish" two leagues. One is very friendly/social and I provide a print out of players & byeweeks from a "free site" - some place like "FF Toolbox". It gives them a point of reference, but if they want to dig deeper - they're on their own.

The second league - I too say, "come prepared" & that's it.....and believe me, they ALL come prepared.

Even my all dentists league that has a $200 entry fee doesn't get people to come remotely prepared

Wow you are a lot more helpful than I am. I just tell them to come prepared.
Same. And for the record, my league is very friendly. It's me and a handful of friends. It's barely even a money league ($10) and that's just to keep people interested rather than bailing out halfway through the season.I think if you give them a printout of the schedule and FBG rankings that's enough.

I would give them a printout of the 2005 bye weeks and schedule!

An "All Dentist League", huh?.......... I have $200 and a "toothbrush" does that count?..........if they're NOT prepared - I would love to join!!!!

Copies of magazines from the last two years laying around does just fine. People grab them and it distracts them for at least 3-4 minutes before they realize what they are looking at!I actually commish two leagues. One league I give no help what so ever. All owners know what needs to be done and even then, those who are not prepared will get someone to share (it is a friendly league). In my other league at work I commish, I spend a few minutes each day the week before the draft to find owners and remind them that draft day is coming and they should get prepared. This usually leads to them asking about where to finds some good info. Eventually I hope to teach them to do it on their own and not handicap them by basically saying don't worry about it, I will bring you a cheatsheet, bye weeks, paper to write down your team, game schedule, etc.I do provide a few copies of league rules, scoring, etc. Always good to have members refresh on those and have them there to verify when a question comes up.

I'll give them the schedule, bye weeks and a copy of the latest CBS Sportsline rankings. :goodposting:

See, I've done this, and it's not effective either. They complain because they see me using different rankings and know that I probably have some sort of an edge.So this year I'm ensuring that they get the exact same data that I do for drafting. It will increase the challenge for me.... and unless these donks draft brilliantly they don't do much if anything on the waiver wire anyway.

I actually provide them with the sportsline rankings because that is the managment site we use so they would have had access to those anyway. There is no way I'm sharing info from a pay site.

I provide them a sheet with the position requirements and blanks listed beside them so they can write down their selections, but that's it.

I've had people on the verge of leaving the league due to being non-competitive..I'm telling you, this league is a social entity that is barely competitive... I have to do whatever I can to give these people a chance!

How can that be fun? You may as well draft all 12 teams for them, then submit the lineups each week. If these other dentists aren't really into it, perhaps you need something else to bond with them.

I usually printo off CBS or Yahoo position rankings so they atleast have a way of keeping a good track of who is available and who has been drafted.

Social league of friends. I tell them to come prepared. I have friends that aren't into football, I don't want to play FF with them. If they don't want to do their own homework I would rather they give the seat to someone who will.

OK.. let me rephrase this entire question.

What worksheets would you give to someone who is new to the NFL in general, and is deciding to join an FFL league for the first time with another group of people who may not be experts, but have played for a long time.

How would you help that person prepare for a draft (let's assume pointing him to FBG's and getting a subscription is not possible)

What kind of sheets would you give a newbie to have a good experience so to turn him on to this hobby and have an enjoyable experience?

I wish i had friends that were REALLY into ffl NERD style. But I don't.I have friends that are casual football fans, but that like ffl because it gets everyone together once a year for the draft. In lieu of that, i'm looking for a way to give these GB's a fighting chance without doing any work.

Try this http://footballguys.com/articles/07beginners1.htmI'm sure there's also more simplified similar documents out there.

I give them a copy of the league rules (if revised) and a copy of the league fantasy schedule. That is all.

The rest is up to them. It is totally their responsibility to come prepared. I laugh at them when they are not. (Like the year a guy drafted Marcel Shipp, even though he had just been placed on IR.) We are all friends but they know that they own their team and it is their responsibility to run it. I refuse to do their "work" for them. I might give someone a widely known tip here or there, but that's about it.

I gave this person those links.I'm talking about what you'd give them to make sure they had a fighting chance during the draft.

Let's assume he's not going to use the DD.

What's funny is when the new guy actually does prepare and then with the 6th pick in the 1st round proudly proclaims, "Baltimore Defense!"

snickers

"What, they led the league in total scoring last season. More than any of the guys you drafted did."

This actually happened with my league two years ago. To his credit, he was the highest scoring team to not make the playoffs and won the toilet bowl.

Edit to add:

I usually print out a bunch of stuff from free sites, including the free articles here. It makes for interesting reading before the draft. It's also funny to see some people run to their sheets and start circling players with one of the articles in hand. I also have plenty of beer on hand to help people feel better about grabbing those sleeper picks in the 8th round, lol.

If they are new to the NFL I just don't see how they are going to have a good experience with experienced FF owners. You can give them cheat sheets, but then they are just going to pick based on what the rankings are and maybe upgrade a player or two because "I have heard of him".In all honesty I think it might be better to point him at some general FF advice articles but let him make up his own draft sheets. That way, win or lose, he did it with his choices, and if he is so inclined he will know what he needs to pay more attention to next year. If you give him prep material and he does poorly he is just going to blame it on your material and be no better off next year.

I don't know how much $$ you play for, but in my non-dental league, the entry is $75, and I have people consistently complaining about said fee and how they are basically donating because they have no chance to win.I cannot even make fun of these people for doing the wrong thing because a few of these people aren't even NFL fans and can't name more than about 30-40 NFL players. In fact, this would produce bad blood. All I'm looking for is IF YOU WERE GOING TO GO WAY OVER THE TOP and PROVIDE THE MAXIMUM FOR PEOPLE, what would that be?
