What NFL rules would you like changed to appeal to the fans? (1 Viewer)

So the NFL's normally rigid uniform policy has been adjusted to allow for patriotic cleats and gloves to be worn in memory of 9/11.

NFL uniform rule adjustment

This change is clearly designed to appeal to fans connecting to their patriotic side. A less rule stringent and more fan friendly NFL???? Not so sure, there has to be some sort of profit turned somewhere. However it did cause me to wonder, what rules would you like to see changed or even relaxed in order for the NFL to appeal to your inner fandom? Uniform restrictions, celebrations, etc?

Make the endzones 5 yards deeper. It would open up more room for offenses to operate, thus increasing TDs as opposed to FGs. At the same time, FGs would be harder, thus encouraging teams to "go for it" more often.

Can you tell that I don't like FGs?

Bring back celebrations!!!!!

and screw the blow-hards who say "act like you've been there before"

15 yard penalty to any player that makes that annoying flag throwing motion when they think a penalty should be called...

As far as the game is concerned...not too much comes to mind. Game day experience and overall league policy and fan outreach/customer appreciation...

1) Red Zone Channel on the big stadium screens during all TV breaks and timeouts.

2) Customer loyalty program - spend more on NFL products/services, get stuff/discounts. Surprised we haven't seen some type of integrated program like this in any sport.

3) A la carte pricing for Sunday Ticket for season ticket holders.

4) NCAA penalty enforcement - I like how the NFL enforced Pryor's suspension. Hope they win the appeal.

5) Alright...one actual game rule - Incidental Pass Interference...a lot of times you see a team chuck the ball downfield with the primary hope of drawing s spot foul PI call. While blatant cases of PI could still be identified as a spot foul, incidental PI can now also be an option if the offense was competitive or borderline. Judgement call for the refs for sure, but no one gets PI yard credit in FF!

:goodposting: How many of the Top 10 celebrations playing on NFL network would draw a flag today?

Terrible and i hope they don't win the appeal. Unless the NFL admits the NCAA is their farm system and starts paying the NCAA players.

If I want to see grown men prancing about like ballerinas, I can go to the ballet.Time for them to grow up, and you, too.The problem is, how much is enough? Each one tries to outdo the others and you end up with something that goes on and on, getting more and more ridiculous, and has nothing to do with football.Kudos to the NFL for being grown up.

I'm fine with that. Pretty sure the NFL won't do this for free though.

Just tell me what qualifies as a catch and what doesn't in a way that is clear, understandable, and consistently enforced and I will be happy.

Time for them to grow up, and you, too.

The problem is,there are people out there that can not stand any emotion showed by players after a big play.
Fixed

They do pay them.. With multi-million dollar contracts when they get drafted

1) Kick the ball from the friggin 30 yard line AND let the coverage get a running start.

2) No more sissy Brady rules. No hitting QB's below the knees. No hitting QB's above the shoulders. What's next? Two-hand tag on the QB's? Dresses? Skirts?

3) What the hell is a "defenseless receiver"? Doesn't matter, bad rule.

4) Let the DB's touch the receivers. Rice and Irvin used to have to FIGHT the corners all the way down the field. How can you cover a guy if you can't even touch him? I like scoring as much as the next guy, but all these new rules are making scoring TOO easy.

Are you serious?Pre-planned celebrations are the exact opposite of emotion. Have you ever played any team sport in your life? I'm not talking about college or pro here, a simple rec league were do. When did you ever score a bigtime, emotional touchdown and respond with "no no no teammates, move away, I need to do this little dance number that I planned in front of a mirror last night".

When you're emotional, you jump up in the air, you fist pump, you high five your teammates. Doing some pre-planned routine requires you to put your emotions aside (if you really cared about the game in the first place and weren't just hoping to score so you could show off your new routine).

I wouldn't mind if those things were allowed again, they're fun to watch and as a fan I like them. But to say they're based on emotion is just nonsense. They're the complete and utter opposite.

Ray Lewis' pre-game dance gyrations are both pre-planned and very emotional.ETA: what's the difference between pre-planned and just plain ol' "planned", anyway?

The problem is, blah blah blah.... Just enjoy it. It's a game. It is suppose to be fun. Let them have their fun. No one is hurt by it except extra sensitive judgmental a-holes. IMO.

I'd like to see the NFL allow each team to activate a fan from the stands to kick extra points. That would be appealing.

:goodposting: :goodposting: :goodposting: If I was a coach, I'd fine or cut players for this whiny BS.As far as what rules should be changed, I'd say undo all the crappy ones put in place over the last few years that make it impossible to play defense.

This is the worst thing thats happened to football in the last 10 yrs. Throwing the ball at will like we saw Thursday night is way too easy. It sucks

Don't allow coaches to have contact with the players during the game (except at halftime). They're big boys who have spent all week preparing for the game -- figuring things out and making their own decisions and adjustments ought to be part of it.

I think this is what they do in tennis

Another twist to this - I never liked the individual ones where one is showcasing himself (like the cell phone ones, doing poses by yourself as you shoo away teammates) but I did always like the team oriented celebrations. I think clebrating with your teammates shows team unity as opposed to trying to shine the light on yourself like it was only you that made the play happen.I loved the hand grenade one where a player gathered his teammates around and then they all fell down when the "grenade" went off. Then they jogged off the field high fiving each other and hugging in celebration. Or the one where they spun the ball and teammates would gather around and warm their hands over it like it was a fire. Those were imaginative and didn't seem to say "Me me me!". Instead they actually celebrated the scoring play as opposed to one person. That was ok with me. I wish it was back.
