what round to take players (1 Viewer)

Hi,

I'm having trouble deciding what round to take players in. I'm seeing a lot of advice about rankings but not as much that says "take this guy in round 6". Wondering what methods people are using to prepare for their draft.

Thanks,

Brett

when you look at rankings look at the ADP.  That shows you kind of an average of what pick they are going at.  Know how many teams are in your league.  If it's a ten team league, Pick 60 is a sixth round pick.  If you are in a 12 team league, Pick 60 is a Fifth round pick.  You also kind of have to know the people you are drafting with.  If it's people you know, you get to learn whether they tend to be homers and draft local players too early or whether they like to reach for the best QB way before they should.  It gives you an idea of how far some players may drop and if somebody you really want might get picked a little higher.

Try not to worry too much about what round to take a player in.  Just follow a basic strategy.  You want an RB in round one?  Take the best one available.  Don't like that guy?  Look at a WR or TE.  Nothing is fool proof.  You can set out a perfect strategy and follow the rankings to the tee and still get beaten by somebody who used the TV Guide Football Preview issue for drafting.  (True story, many years ago)

That's a loaded question.  Learning ADP values and your league mates tendencies are the best ways to know when you should be taking players.  Don't force positions and take players you like.  Afterall this is supposed to be fun.  There is no right answer to this question.
