What teams will be resting star players next week? (1 Viewer)

Why would SF be resting anyone? If the Saints win tomorrow, the 49ers need to win next week to get the 2 seed and a bye. If the Saints lose tomorrow night, I could see them and the 49ers both then resting players (as both would be locked into their 2 and 3 seeds).

I would say the Packers for sure (assuming a win tonight). I would say Houston, but considering how poorly they've played the last two weeks, they need to get some momentum going into the playoffs, so I think they'll go all-out to play well and win next week.

Saints starters going to play much?
They're still playing for a first-round bye. Unless the Niners bolt out to a gigantic lead early against the Rams I would have to think New Orleans plays its starters for as long as possible to secure the win. Given how well the Saints have been playing, they could easily be up by 2-3 scores going into the fourth quarter so they could rest Brees and Co. then. But I can't see why the Saints would intentionally tank when there's still a chance (although it may be remote) that they could secure the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye.One thing to note for Jimmy Graham owners - he's around 80 yards away from setting an all-time record for TE yardage in a season. I wouldn't be surprised if the Saints tried to get that for him.

If the Lions beat the Packers and lock up the 5th seed, I can see the Falcons pulling their starters early.

I agree with this. Also, since Brady is only 190 passing yards behind Brees, I don't think Sean Payton would take Brees out to let his new record get surpassed by Brady. And Belichick hasn't rested his starters in Week 17, based on prior similar situations.
