First time taking my kid trick or treating on a Saturday. 3pm too soon? We're having a party at 530 so gotta be back by then

3 sounds terribly early to me. I don't think we start until the time you need to be back...and that's on the early side.

I said to my wife last night, you want to #### with the neighbors and start trick or treating around 2 in the afternoon? Catch them off guard and watch them scramble?

We live in a smaller neighborhood and are friends with just about them all. The point is, 3 is entirely too early. You start when the sun goes down.

You don't have set hours???
huh
Every city around here has a day and a two hour window for trick or treating. We were Thursday from 6:00-8:00. You just have people coming any time they want?
Wtf seriously?

How the heck do you folks do it?

I grew up here and this is all I've ever known. It actually makes things nice because you know when the kids will be coming...and questions like in the OP aren't a concern.

Agree with everyone else that 3 is WAY too early unless you are just going to a couple houses where your family/friends live. Also agree that around dusk is the right time - maybe a little earlier if you only have really young kids.

Usually starts around 6 by me. I'd probably be okay with 5 or so. At 3, I'd probably give the kid candy but shoot the parents a death stare.

5-6pm is perfect time to go out trick or treating. 7pm is a perfect time to start the party.

Thanks fir the edit Johnny. I didn't take personal. My wife scheduled the party for 6 because her friends live in Brooklyn

Always a strong move to screw kids over on Halloween so the adults can drink
activities planned are pumpkin decorating, candy scavenger hunt, costume contest, and other games.Yeah definitely nothing for the kids.and aren't you the guy who leaves his 5 year old home to go drinking at the bar down the street with your wife?

Yeah but we set up our iPhones so we can here if the kids wake up and we only do it after they are asleep.

A lot of those activities sound like they would be most fun before trick or treating..??? Have you considered having the kids go out at 6:30 - 7:00pm for trick or treating or maybe move the party up a little? Its just that, like I said initially, 5-6pm is pretty much prime time for trick or treating. Maybe until 7pm, but then things die down. By 8pm I'm shutting off the lights. But I don't expect anyone before 4pm, really, either. I mean, it's fine if they come earlier but I might have to scramble to find the candy real quick.

We own the iPhones, I don't see how it would be illegal

Apparently Location"Buckeye Country is in Communist Russia.

I think the freedom to trick or treat any time after 4:00pm on Oct. 31 is in the Bill of Rights or something.

This is hilarious by the way, what time do they allow you to eat dinner?
