I held my tongue and then - like Flysack - considered writing a serious response about David Foster Wallace, before ultimately realizing it's not worth it. However, I will point out that in this long list of deaths, one of the only decedents to attract numerous insults is Wallace. Why? I feel like the criticisms of his writing stem from intellectual insecurity.
If you truly didn't care about him, you just would let his inclusion here pass unremarked. But because you can't comprehend his significance, and feel insecure about your own intelligence as a result, it becomes necessary to tear down his reputation. Your callous comments about a man so pained by life that he chose death over another day of misery say far more about you than they do about Wallace's writing.
