What was your biggest surprise draft pick.... (1 Viewer)

Reagan

Footballguy
Surprise (and best value): Frank Gore - 4th round

Disappointment: Larry Fitzgerald - 3rd round (#21).....luckily, I traded him in week 7 in a deal that landed me Carson Palmer.

Surprise (part 2) - LT...1st pick at #3, but performed beyond my wildest expectations. He was amazingly 150 pts better (so far) that his projected figures for year.

How's this?

WCOFF Satellite 21

2.01 - Carnell Williams

17.12 - Maurice Drew

I never would've suspected that I had the values backwards. In reality, I should've taken Drew in the 2nd and Cadillac in the 17th.

Nice thread choice.

Main league:

Biggest disappointment is easy - TE Ben Watson

Surprise draft pick - Hard to call LT a surprise, but he was easily the best value of all my draft picks. I was a whiz on the WW this year winning that league. Jeff Wilkins maybe? Tatum Bell for a few games here or there.

If not one of those, I didn't have one. I yanked Romo, Mark Clayton, and M J-D off the wire, traded for Hass, drafted Boldin and Galloway, but they represented zero value.

Yeah, I just looked at our league totals YTD and was pretty surprised to see MJD with the 9th most points among RBs, in our PPR league. Caddy...who saw that coming? He had his doubters, as several of the RBs in his value range had, but you couldn't have predicted what he did.I'd say our league's biggest bust was #1 pick in entire draft - S. Alexander. That owner had to grimmace each week knowing he passed on LT and LJ. To add insult to injury, around week 7, that same owner had Grossman (peaking), Brees (he drafted him so he had that going), and Carson Palmer at QB. Weak RBs with SA out. I got him to trade me Carson and Tatum for Fitzgerald (who we thought would be back soon) and Thomas Jones. Tatum had a couple of weeks, but I plugged Carson into my QB slot (ahead of Favre) and sailed to the title (with LT, Gore, Chad, Driver).

Lamont Jordan down?At least SA, Edge and Rudi had games late in the year - SA has been especially big down the stretch.

No he passed on Larry Johnson, who went #2 in our league. Lamont Jordan owner in our league got Jordan and Portis at 9/10 turn and didn't do so hot this year.

I'm still stunned by how poor his season has been. Want to talk about the importance of luck in FF? In the aforementioned WCOFF league I was dealt 1.12, meaning I had the last pick in all the odd-numbered rounds and the first pick in the even-numbered rounds. At 1.12, I was going to take a RB and a WR. I got my first choice WR (Torry Holt). I wanted either Steven Jackson or Brian Westbrook as the RB. Neither guy lasted to the turn, so I took Cadillac Williams instead. Woops. At 3.12 and 4.01, I once again wanted a RB and a WR. I once again got my top choice WR (Hines Ward). I wanted Reggie Bush as the RB. He went a few picks earlier. At that point, I decided that there were no RBs worth taking. Unfortunately, my second choice WR (Donald Driver) also went a few picks earlier. I had to settle for Santana Moss. Woops. Think my season would've been a little bit better if I had landed Steven Jackson and Donald Driver instead of Cadillac Williams and Santana Moss? Yea, I'd say things would've been just a tad better for me. It's ultimately my fault for wasting picks on Cadillac and Santana, but it goes to show that a few minor bad breaks can dramatically alter the complexion of your team. Reminds me of my Zealots 18 draft. I was all set to take Antonio Gates in the 20-something round. He went one pick before me. I settled for Teyo Johnson instead. :hot: These are the breaks.

P.S. - of you want to see my "pimp" players, mine are public knowledge - just swim through the free content in the preseason to see who I was pimping.

My BIGGEST pimp was Reggie Bush in any PPR league - and that was certainly a home run.

the good - frank gore - he was the last RB taken in our 10 man league by me...and i really wanted lundy

the bad - randy moss - luckily i dealt him away with vick and t.jones to get cjohn (before his b2b 40 point weeks).

overall, great season.

-biz-

Biggest surprise - D. Henderson and R. CurryBiggest disappointed - Anyone that Levin pimped.
:crazy:I pimped LT
Hmmm...must have missed that thread...and to think I could have had LT over McGahee.
:hot:Always looking to take a shot, huh?I pimped Torry Holt as the #2 receiver.
I seriously considered choosing Holt at 3.3, but chose Fitzgerald instead (after getting LT and CJ in 1, 2). I still did all right, but that would have been a wiser choice. I think Leinart and Fitz will light it up in '07, however.

Homerun??? Not even a hit by pitch come money time.

Best Value pick= Driver in the mid 7th (after 5 rounds of keepers, one of which was all rooks)

Worst pick- Deangelo williams in the first non-keepr round. Didnt give me what i thought he would this year (top 15-20 RB) but he'll be my rookie keeper, so he'll have a chance to redeem himself.

Going, over this, i just realized that my round 11-18 picks are all off my roster. My round 19 was the SD defense

in the super bowl next week

Best surprise: Thomas Jones. Not in the level of a Gore or a Colston but still great value for a 9th rounder. Also Philip Rivers had some good games and provided good value for a 14th rounder.

Biggest flops: Chris Chambers in one league, Cadillac in the other.

I can't believe it took 19 posts to mention Chambers. He was in just about everyone's top 10 WR rankings this year. OUCH!

Dynasty draft in the pre-season - 16 team league.

Drew Brees at the 57th pick (11th QB taken)

LaMont Jordan at the...10th pick. :banned:

ETA: Ahman Green 119th pick

Another one for Gore. Picked him in what was the equivalent of the 6th round (11th pick in the 3rd in a 3 player keeper league).

Worst pick is a tie between Kennison in the 5th (10 slot) and Michael Clayton in the 6th of a redraft.

Bets pick 19.12 - Colston

Dead last pick of the draft, had to actually write him in as cbs did not have a sticker with his name

Worst 5.12 - Chambers

Had a few suprises. McCallister in the 8th of a 14 team league. Colston in the 15th.

Worst pic was Ruben Droughns in the 4th. The DD had him the top overall from the middle of the third on. I bit late fourth.

Biggest Surprise - Rex Grossman (actually traded Kerry Collins for him at the beginning of the year in a 32 team dynasty)

Biggest Disappointment - DeShaun "DeFunct" Foster

I was high on Deshaun at the beginning of the year. Now I'm stuck with this bum on my roster with a 5 year contract!

Best - Gore of course got him in the 5th...1 round after I took Deshaun.

Worst - Cadillac with 1.15 traded him week 2 straight up for Reggie Wayne.

Best WW pickup - Colston WR/TE in yahoo then traded him for Gates and SD Defense.

Championship game is sunday picked 15 in a 16 man league...draft dominator helped me a TON this year

Biggest surpise - Chester Taylor (5.3), actually hated taking him but I couldn't pass there (my re-draft league has some strange drafts)

Biggest disappointment - Big Ben (7.3) - 13th QB taken, but I felt he would be Top 10 despite the off season issues. Ended up relying on Grossman

No surprise, but glad (or not) I was right - Driver (3 drafts and took him no earlier than the 13th WR in any), Edge (2.5 in an initial dynasty - traded for Tatum since it was all I could get), Jennings (2 time late dynasty pick and was big first half the year) AND LT at 1.3 (of course I couldn't get by the 1st round of the playoffs, but it was a great run to the top of the mountain).

12 Team PPR: Finished out of the money

Value:

2.07 - Westbrook: I think he was the 13th RB taken and ended up 4th through 16 weeks.

Disappointment:

4.07 - Mason

5.06 - Horn

6.07 - Matt Jones

Take your pick. They ruinned my season

10 Team Standard: Lost Super Bowl

Value:

4.09 - FWP: 20th RB taken and ended up 6th even after his week 16 stinker

Disappointment:

S Alexander - 1.02: Next pick off of the board was....you guessed it, LT2. And who did I lose the SB to....you guessed it, same owner.

R Moss - 3.02

8 team TD heavy: Won Super Bowl

Value:

Frank Gore - 10.01: 25th RB taken and ended up ranked 7th

Disappointment:

1.10 - Ronnie Brown

2.01 - Lemont Jordan

3.10 - Chris Chambers

Overcoming those 3 draft picks, plus the loss of McNabb (7.10) was not easy. GB 8 team leagues.

Wow can i get this guy in our league next year?I got Winslow in the 16th round, he was pretty solid, got me points every week. I would think Ahman Green is pretty high on the surprise list.

Have to say both Matt Jones & Troy Williamson were by far my biggest disappointments. :goodposting:

But more than made up for them with Gore, Green, Cotchery & Colston.

THis guy was one of the only guppies in our league. HIs draft and team sucked. Plus, he wouldn't make any trades to improve his team. Finished 2-10 in regular season. Lucked into two wins.

Yep....I bought the Matt Jones hype thinking he might be a good WR3. Took him in the 9th round and dropped him after about 4-5 weeks. He was never picked up by anyone.

my biggest surprise was marques colston. in my league, we have to play a rookie offensive player. it has to be a quarterback, running back, wr, te, or k. it's like a bonus position. i waited late this year in the draft to pick my rookies, and i needed two so i would have a bye covered, and i picked greg jennings (who was a nice surprise too for awhile) and hank baskett. at the time hank baskett was the #2 in philly. a couple days after the draft, philly traded for donte stallworth, so i dumped baskett and picked up this marques colston guy since he was to take over stallworth's place at NO. he was a very pleasant surprise.

my biggest disappointment was matt jones. i dumped him around week 5 though, and had never used him in my lineup, so it never hurt my team.

Actually after the first 4-5 weeks Big Ben had a pretty good year.

Driver was a great value pick (even if had in the 4th or 5th). I made sure to get him in all my leagues and he helped carry 2 teams to the championship.

Troy Williamson was a bum.

'Tis true, but I had already given up on him by then  I will target him again next year because I think he will be even more under valued.
