Is Comcast really losing the NFLN at the end of April? Commercials on NFLN says yes. Comcast, when I called them said they are still in negotiations. Does anyone know for sure?

NFLN likely will disappear entirely from the Comcast system as of May 1, since the league refuses to allow the network to continue to appear on the pay-only tier. If/when the FCC rules in the NFL’s favor, the channel likely will return, as part of the basic package.

Good article, in all the discussion about this I don't think that I'd heard about the 1992 federal law that is involved or the claims of favoring their own channels when Comcast has Golf and Versus on their basic tier.The NFL wants all of the Comcast subscribers to have to pay 61 cents for the channel when some who would have to pay won't want it. While Comcast wants those who want the channel to have to pay $7 for it instead of the 61 cents it costs. Of course the customer-friendly answer of letting people order it individually for 61 cents will never be considered by either side.

and I will be switching to Verizon FIOS. The only reason I haven't done it yet is that I have been lazy. Losing the NFL Network will be just the incentive I need to get off my butt and cancel Comcast.

it amazes me how people side with the nfl network on this in such a mass. if i want the nfl network, i can get it by paying for it. why should everyone pay for a channel that a small percentage is going to watch? (of course, it should be that way for every channel, but that's another debate).
as for the .61 argument, you can't make that. if one person doesn't order it, that's .61 short that comcast will come up in paying for the nfl network.
i am willing to pay the extra $5 (not $7 last time i checked) per month for the sports tier. of course, i also watch Big Ten netowk, MLB network and european soccer, so i get my money's worth.

Why should everyone pay for Versus, or Golf, or any other channel that only a small percentage is going to make.Really there is no "right" side in all of this. Comcast is trying to force people who want NFL Network to have to pay for channels that they want. NFL Networks is trying to force people who don't want NFL Network to have to pay for it. I don't buy the "but Comcast will be 61 cents short for each person". If you don't think the cost will be passed onto the end customer no matter what tier it ends up in, you're fooling yourself. It's just a matter of how soon they can raise the price without people complaining.
As I said, if either side cared about the customer they would not force it on the basic tier and they would not force you to have to take extra channels to get it. It would be a single channel you could add on for just the price of that channel, as would all channels. Don't think Comcast is fighting some noble fight for the consumer, any more than NFL Network is. They are all just trying to make as much money as they can.

Or switch to a competitor cable or satelite company. Comcast sucks anyways.
