What's Matt Holliday worth? (1 Viewer)

I'll be the first to admit that I am green when it comes to fantasy baseball--I basically only participate if a friend asks me to. I've been offered Matt Holliday (LF) for A Ramirez (3B) and BJ Upton (2B/CF). On the surface, this seems like a lot to give up, but Holliday is the LF stud isn't he? In a weaker OF position this year or so I've read. I already have David Wright and can swing Figgins over to 2B, so positionally I am OK. He is a monster upgrade at LF over Jason Bay.

Thoughts?

Holiday is top 5 and the positional scarcity argument at 2B is false...given your replacement level players I would strongly consider this deal. Try a counter to get a little more though as on paper you're the loser right now, use the football guys' draft pick calculator to see what you should ask for. Input Holiday as #5, Upton as #22ish and A Ram as #28ish. Plug numbers into the side of the deal with Holiday until you find a deal of equitable value then look for a player on his roster that will help you that is of that value.

I tend to agree here....but I hate giving up my depth like this before the season starts....just in case of injury.

One year league, H2H, but the most important part (I think) is it is only a 10 team league, so I believe there should be quality players on the WW. What I'm really asking is would you rather have:Holliday LF + Figgins 2B + Bay (Util) orBay LF + Upton 2B + ARam (Util)Isn't this analgous to hoarding studs in smaller FF leagues? Wrong in FB? I was studying for my draft this week and noticed that as well. I'm not worried about that position at all. SS seems to be the weakest position to me.

SS, while not necessarily weak, has a pretty huge drop-off after the first three, and I agree is weaker than second base this year (which has the big 1-2 and then everyone else).But, in two catcher leagues, catcher is far and away the weakest position. There are two possibly great ones, two possible very good ones and then a whole bunch of nothing after that. If you need two, you need to get a top flight one otherwise you can expect a whole lot of nothing this year out of the two you draft combined. I mean, John Buck and Ramon Hernandez, for the whole year? ugly.

Yes. In a 10T Mixed league there will be all stars on the damn wire. Do this and don't look back. If you want, try to squeeze something else out of him (He's going to have to drop someone anyway).... but do this deal.

Dont listen to me. I reached for Kendrick in the 7th when all the 2B were flying off the shelves and still dont have a SS in the 17th rd.

I tried to get him to throw a starting pitcher in, but he wouldn't go for it, so I got him to take ARam and Figgins for Holliday. So I keep Upton at 2B. Bay was expendable since he plays LF only, so I dealt him for Tulowitzski. He was my #4 rated SS. I'm starting to feel pretty decent about my team now.

I totally agree that 2B is pretty deep this year--guys like Kelly Johnson or Aaron Hill are quite serviceable and can be had pretty late. SS is very shallow. Furcal is a borderline top 10 SS and helps you in maybe 2 cats.
