What's the Big Deal With The Chive? (1 Viewer)

I've been to the website and it's a cool timewaster. A lot of funny and interesting pictures.

What I don't get is the cult following that it seems to have attracted. The t-shirts, the bumper stickers....some people in my office have mugs and little KCCO signs on their desk.

Am I missing something? There are a thousand other websites out there just like it. Is there a reason this one is so special?

Easily one of my favorite sites - Top 5.

FLBP

Mind the Gap

Underboob

Yes, yes, yes

I have a Tshirt - doubt I'd get more stuff

Since a few hotties send in pics to chive, it's an obvious signal that all hotties love guys who are into the chive thing regardless of what they look like. Just put on that bill Murray 3d t-shirt and you'll be banging 9s and 10s all day

Yeah, I kinda feel the same way. The format they have though is pretty good and they follow a weekly formula that works. I have nothing against the website and look at the app from time to time. It's cool to look at, the charitable causes are pretty awesome, and they're good at what they do.

However, the cult following is pretty ridiculous. It's the Dave Matthews Band of websites, if you know what I mean. I'd never buy a t-shirt or anything - partly because my wife would roll her eyes and I think it's very "frat boy" anyway to have or wear their merch.

A college friend of mine (I'm 33) was all excited about me possibly going to a Chive event in Rochester. Yeah, no thanks. I even have a few closer friends who own t-shirts, but I don't bother talking to them about it. They'll just argue with me if I tell them I think it's dumb to wear that ####.

Yeah, I feel the same way. I go there every other day or so to see funny pics but the ads annoy me.

Kind of crazy how much they charge for t-shirts and whatnot. Granted, funds go towards charity but still..

It was cool a few years back...if you were there early on, it felt like your little community of awesomeness...

Now it's more like Guy Pinterest.

They do a good job of marketing. "Keep Calm and Chive on." They've convinced people that it's cool to be a part of "The Chive." The lemmings want to be cool so pay to advertise for them.

I remember thinking the same thing about "Jaeger Bombs" back when I was still a part of the bar scene... not sure if they're still a thing but they taste awful and were expensive. If guys didn't think it was cool to get nuts and order a round of "f'ing Jaeger Bombs!!!" nobody would order them because they taste like chit.

Pretty much all of the cocktail waitresses on bourbon street wear KCCO shirts that make their tihttts stand out, praying that some "chiver" will tip them $100. Blatant and sad because it probably works.

Large is the chip on this one's shoulder.

They seem like pretty good people who send out positive vibes no matter the situation. Message boards, FB, Twitter it's always people complaining or being outraged about something while the Chive is preaching togetherness and unity. Just look at some of the responses here calling it douchbaggery to wear the shirts and the DMB of websites. More people being cynical jerks online while they're continuing to smile, drink beer, and have fun with any person who's willing to party.

In all seriousness all that happiness should be kept to themselves and I wish they'd just shut up. We're not all millionaires you jerk offs.

So, it's just a cool website with positive content, avoids involvement in controversial issues and donates a lot to charity. That's basically what I'm understanding here.

That's cool. I can get behind that concept and see why it's gained so much traction.

Pure douchebaggery to have a Chive shirt or God forbid a bumper sticker on your car.
thank you, I thought we had 30 posts in here with no one who noticed this. Last week I saw a lifted ford F150 with a giant 6 foot flag KCCO flying behind it.

It's pretty much the BIG JOHNSON SURF BOARD thing of this decade. Everyone who wears it may not be a dickface, but you'd be dumb to bet against it.
