Has anyone found any statistical information on the 1st round playoff outcome of...

- Back-to-back regular season finale / 1st round playoff game match-ups.

- When clubs meet for a 3rd time in the playoffs.

I've been searching a little this morning, but haven't found much.

I thought I heard something yesterday that the team that has won twice - won the 3rd time like 12 out of 19 games..

This is two years old, and not exactly what you wanted, but it's something:

Thanks guys. Doug's article pretty much puts to bed what the odds are for a 3rd win in one season - 2/3rd for the 2-0 team and 75% for the home team. Nice. That would make Dallas a prohibitive favorite in their game. And from what I've seen recently, Dallas has a big edge over the NFC playoff feild on defense. If their D-Line plays as feriouciously as they have, I see like their chances to make Miami.

Packers defense might have something to say about the best defense in the NFC playoffs. Perhaps you missed the game where the Packers nearly shut out the Cowboys. As for rematches of week 17, I believe I heard it happened 4 times in the last 10 years and the team that won in week 17 has only won one of the 4 rematches. I don't have the information on those games to know if the teams that lost in week 17 had much of anything to play for, but I suspect not in some cases similar to the Cards & Bengals yesterday

The Packers / Dallas game was what? Two months ago? Against playoff teams Dallas has given up... 16 @Philly17 @ GB20 v SD17 @ NO0 v. PHILLYGreen Bay?31 v CIN30 @ Min38 v MINN7 v DALL14 v BALT7 @ Arz (versus back-ups)In the last 4 Dallas has surrendered 37 (versus SD, NO, Wash, Philly) Green Bay? 68 (versus Chi, Pitt, Sea, Arz v back-ups)I love Green Bay's chances to make some noise, but to compare those defenses - and versus the quality of the competition - is pure homerism.
