The Packers recent struggles protecting Aaron Rodgers got me thinking: Would you rather have a team that couldnt protect the QB / open lanes for RB's, or a poor Defensive Line that cant stop the run / generate a pass rush.

Offensive line IMO; lack of protection for franchise QB, lack of blocking for franchise RB, lack of production for offense, lack of scoring.

This one's easy...while you can disguise a Bad D-line with linebacker scheming and a good secondary, you can't really do anything to disguise a Bad O-line...it will ruin both your running game and your passing game. Also, if your O-line can't keep your offense in the game, your defense will get worn out and start giving up big plays.

I was going to say the opposite. You can disguise a bad O-line with lots of screens, bootlegs, and 3-step drops... but you can't disguise a bad defensive line. I'm probably biased by Denver last season- they had arguably the best O-Line and arguably the worst D-line in the league, and they gave up more points than they scored. At some point, you *HAVE* to be able to get pressure on the passer or you will lose every game.I guess if I had to choose for one unit to be average and the other to be terrible, I'd rather have an average offensive line and a terrible defensive line. On the other hand, if I had to choose for one unit to be exceptional and the other to be terrible, I'd rather have a terrible offensive line and an exceptional defensive line.

Sounds like the Buddy Ryan-era Eagles to me. They got to the playoffs this way, but never won in the playoffs (only scored 1 TD in 3 playoff games) against teams with good defensive talent and schemes who forced turnovers and created short fields.

Weird question... how can one consider the O line without taking into consideration the strength of QB, RB, etc?

Anyway, I have always heard D linemen are the better athlete's. If you take that as true, then great scheme, coaching etc would be more important to great O line then a great D line. The reverse should also be true: great scheme, coaching would disguise defecencies in a bad O line more than a bad D line.

I'll take the bad O line over the bad D line.

More fans want to see offense, and therefore it should sell more tickets.

And if your DL sucks, you can go 3-4 or even 2-5, and have good LB's/DB's.

When the OL is bad, there is no "next line of offense".

I voted offensive line. A bad offensive line won't keep your offense on the field and/or won't allow it to score enough to win consistently. It'll also guarantee that your good defensive line gets worn down by being on the field all day.
