Curious how you all are spending these preceding months to the fantasy season? Anybody care to share and discuss your routine? Some players that I know do nothing, and breeze through their draft and fantasy season with flying colors. Other's spend hours painfully analyzing and fretting. I'm definitely in between. Some of my things...
Post-Super Bowl/Free Agency
- Christmas in March! Everyday it's like "Who's going where!!??". Here I just keep track of players, keep tabs on who's benefitting and who's not.
- I also start my initial 'Fantasy Watch List'. Just a little word doc of players I'm interested in following, with player links from my favorite news sites and articles of interest.
- Somewhere along the line here, I'll revisit our league page and sift through the weeks, looking at some of the lineup choices I made that either did or could've cost me a game. A fresh set of eyes can sometimes give you that "What was I thinking? Never again!". Nothing wrong with a little lessons learned.
NFL Draft
- Love to see where rookies go. Not only does this effect them, but also many of the other players on the depth chart, so it's very important to me.
- After this point, I create my prelim rankings sheet. I start off with an excel sheet of pretty much every player at every fantasy position, including D/ST and K. It may sound weird, but I spend quite a long time ranking everybody. I conduct a little mock draft of my own, going through each choice asking myself "Who's the best person to draft right now", and adjust my list accordingly.
Post-Draft and Minicamps
- Here's where I'm at now. Every other day or so I check my little favorites list of news and analysis sites (FBG Blogger definitely at the top
)
- Once a week I run down my complete list of players (42 QB's, 72 RBs and 135 WRs...) and move players up and down accordingly. I try to do this only once a week, otherwise I start moving people needlessly. (Rookie WRs are just plain KILLING me). I try not to spend much time on the bottom dwellers, but it doesn't hurt to rank them and keep tabs on them. I value many experts' rankings, and often compare mine to them, but I think it's best to put my own thoughts down on paper in the form of a rankings sheet. It forces me to make many draft day decisions well ahead of time.
Well there goes it. Discuss, share, whatever. I don't discuss fantasy football with my league mates, just a rule of mine. With $1500 on the line for first place, I just don't give away anything. So I thought I'd pick the forum's brain here.
