Wheelhouse - Interesting Stats, Info and Tidbits

Thru Week 7

1. Did you know this about the Detroit Lions? - The Lions defense has not allowed a single opponent to convert a 4th down attempt. In fact, they have not even had an opponent attempt a 4th down play (non punt of course). Also to add...Opponents have not converted any 4th downs against New England in 3 tries.

Now the opposite...

The Panthers defense has seen 8 fourth downs attempted. Their opponent has converted 7 of them. The 49ers, Chiefs and Redskins have allowed all of their 4th down attempts on defense to convert, but they have only seen 2, 4, and 4 attempts respectively - not close to what Carolina has seen.

2. The update on MartzBall - Detroit has 130 first downs. 93 of them were passing first downs. 71.5% All hail Jon Kitna anyone? By the way, the Lions are 6th overall in first downs. Granted their bye week is week 8.

Here's the leader board

3. Time for a change at QB in Denver? You tell me - Denver, as a team has a 60.4 QB rating and they are only slightly better than Atlanta in total passing yards 984 vs. 908. DEN and ATL are the only teams in the NFL with less than 1000 yards passing. Oh yeah, Denver has 4 passing TD's which is tied with Oakland and Tennessee. :yucky:

4. The update on whether Atlanta can have 2000 yards more rushing than the weakest running team...

Atlanta +924 yards on the Cleveland Browns. ATL 1333 vs. CLE 409.

ATL 1333

NYG 914 (next closest team)

...And ATL already had their bye week (week 5)

Surprisingly, Atlanta only has 5 rushing TD's, compared to DAL and SD who lead the league with 9.

14. The streak ends - Before last week's game against the Bengals, Jake Delhomme did not have an INT inside the 10-yard line in his entire career.

great work, as always, wheels...

made me think of a couple things...

MIA is way up on list of teams with highest total first down numbers... common perception has been their offense is awful & that is why they are losing... they could be breaking down in red zone a lot... it is also possible that they are racking up yards in end when defense allows offense to move ball as long as it grinds clock & they don't give up big play...

also interesting stat at end about DEN & SEA being in minus column (if only slightly) in turnover differential...

i thought i heard extremely high correlation holds true historically that +2 in differential wins about 90% of time (& even +1 seemed high to me, like something approaching 80%)... it would be interesting to see what the numbers are this season...

Say what you want about this guy but even with Leon Washington emerging in a big way Barlow is having a pretty nice fantasy season. Those 5 TDs are pretty sweet if you've been using him in flex leagues - especially when you consider that only four RBs have scored more.

I was surprised at that too Bob, however MIA has yet to have their bye week, so that may be an indication of their high ranking there. Regardless, Marty Booker is emerging as a good target for Harrington as is McMichael. It's definitely worth noting how prolific their offense has been over the last 3 weeks.

All hail Wheelhouse.

Just one thing in stat #15. It is worded as though Leon is averaging, instead of totaling, 2 TDs per game. Maybe a slight phrasing edit would help clear it up.

I love this post every week, what I found interesting is the common denominators in each of the RB stats.

Another note on Steve Smith, he's accumulated his numbers in at least 1 (and more likely 2) less games than the other top WR's :banned:

Reggie who? Seriously, anyone suggesting he even should be in the RUNNING for rookie of the year is out of his freaking mind. Especially considering that McAllister has a 4.9 ypc behind the same line.

All hail Wheels, the man, my favorite thread of the week:

Some humble offerings from yours truly (not as cool as what Wheels brings to us, I'd be the first to admit it):

- It took Michael Vick 57 starts to have a day with 3 TD passes (and he added a fourth against Pittsburgh last week). It took Matt Schaub two starts (turning the trick against New England last year).

Vick sells more shirts, though.

- Warrick Dunn's catches by year, from 2001 to today: 68-50-37-29-29-4.

- The Eagles have kicked 26 extra points. The Titans, 5.

- The Rams have attempted 21 field goals, the Jets and Browns, 7.

- Willis McGahee had 2 TDs in 17 games.

- Randy McMichael has 1 TD in 19 games.

- Kevan Barlow has 6 TDs in 9 games, but last week was his first game with 4.0 a carry since Week 5 of 2005.

- Ten of Peyton Manning's 12 TDs have come on third down. He didn't have a non-third-down TD until last week.

In his record 2004 season, this was Manning's TD-by-down breakdown: 16-21-10-2.

Manning QB rating by down this year: 98.6 first, 72.0 second, 130.7 third. He hasn't attempted a fourth-down pass yet.

Fast facts for Week 7

For the first time this season, the number of times Vick threw to wide receivers exceeded the number of times he ran with the ball

For the second successive week, a team won without scoring a touchdown on offense (TB/Chicago)

When was the last time a team won five consecutive games despite scoring 17 points or fewer in each game, like Denver has?

Joey Harrington threw 62 passes against Green Bay. Only Dan Marino (64 in 1995) attempted more in one game for the Dolphins (Harrington compared to Marino = Priceless! :lmao: )

The Packers finally defeated the Dolphins in Miami for the first time. They had been 0-7 there

NOt sure if this is a record or not...knowing Farve it probably is:

Favre has played regular-season games in 41 different stadium, 16 of which no longer stand (like Veterans Stadium or County Stadium in Milwaukee) or teams no longer use (like the Pontiac Silverdome or RFK Stadium). He will make it 42 if he plays against the Seahawks at Qwest Field. Favre also has thrown touchdown passes in 34 stadiums.

Thats a question, not a fact. Anybody have an answer?
I saw this as being more rhtorical...meaning no one has done it before....
I assumed he was being funny. Because it was very Dwight Shroot. ON TOPIC-

I find it really incredible that Tampa Bay finds itself believing they can win, and then doing it. This is the sort of thing Chicago did last year and I wouldn't be surprised to see Tampa start rolling people when Gradkowski starts trusting his teammates to make plays.

The interesting stat I wanted to know is has a running back led the league in yards from scrimmage after 7 weeks and still not had a TD up to that point? Tiki Barber is having a dominating year and still has not scored a TD.

That's why yardage-heavy leagues are a better reflection of reality. Tiki Barber can rush 22 times for 175 yards and 0 scores, and Jerome Bettis can rush 7 times for 4 yards and 3 scores, and Bettis will actually score more fantasy points in most leagues. That's just out of whack with reality.Half of my leagues score so that a TD is only worth 30 yards, and I really like it. It tends to make production more predictable, less sporadic. It also rewards the players who are genuinely producing rather than getting a few junky TDs from time to time (Kevan Barlow, anyone?).

Great stuff, Wheels, as always. One question-Does Dallas really have 9 rushing TD's? That seems a bit high. SD I get, Dallas, I don't see it.

Bills Fan - Yep, Dallas has 9 rushing TD's Link Breakdown

4 M. Barber

2 J. Jones

2 Bledsoe

1 T. Thompson

As for the last team to win 5 games by scoring 17 or less....Could it be the 2000 Ravens? Didn't they win 4 consec. games without scoring an offensive TD?

I was thinking the Bears team from a few years ago that went 13-3...was it 2004?

Good call on the Cowboys, wheel...didn't trigger for me I guess, maybe becasuse they are so spread out.

Nice work Hector, excellent stuff

Michael Vick is on pace to break the record for yards rushed by a QB in a single season by 208 yards (21.5%). That record has been in place for 34 years. Walter Payton's "unbreakable" record lasted for 18 years.
