My keeper league (retaining 3 players a year) is debating a switch. I know many of you are in multiple leagues; if so, just average your deadlines together if need be to get an answer.

I'm also interested in why your league has the trading deadline that it does. What are the advantages to using the week you do, in terms of competitive balance, etc.?

I think the best trade deadline in a keeper league is just before someone in the league is going fire sale for the next year. Personal preference. So just about the time you feel your out of it because you are about 9th or below, deadline passes. Ours is Nov 17th this year.

I was rumored to be playing for next year once. Barely missing the playoffs and aquiring 2RBs who are sometimes ranked 1st round this year for two tier two/three name receivers that my backups filled in nicely for quashed that. The point is I took a risk because of the early trade line, which in my mind is not a fire sale. (I beat the guy that received my WRs in the trade too.)

In my keeper league, this is the way I do it.

We have a keeper deadline July 15th, then a 2 week Free Agency period where you can add a Free Agent with a minimum $10 bid ending August 1(2 week Blind Bidding process) or for $10 you can retain a player on your roster on July 15th without going through the Free Agent process....Aug 1 rosters are finalized(no more adds). Trades can be made for players and picks leading up to the draft.

2007 Preseason trades stay open through draft day and open up one day after the draft till week 10.

Trades open back up after the Pro Bowl...preseason process begins again.

In my keeper league we make the trade deadline the start of the Thanksgiving day games.

I am not sure which week in the season this is but it is a very easy date that everyone can remember. Before we had this rule people would totally forget which week the deadline was and there would be very little action. Or we would always have two owners that agree on a trade after the deadline and as commish I would have to reverse these trades.

We have 12 teams in our league and 22 man rosters. You keep everyone but 5 players each year.

This rule works great for us.

Our trading deadline is usually week 10.

The bigger issue in my league is whether to allow off season trading or not. How do you guys handle this, or how would you handle this, in leagues where you only keep 2-3 players while losing draft picks X-1 from where you selected the player?

For example, I have Holt, SJax, T. Jones, and Harrison...all keeper worthy in this league, but we can only keep 2. I'd love to deal Holt for say a 1st/2nd round pick, but right now we can't trade in the offseason and I wouldn't do that last year as this team was towards the top of the league. Is no trading allowed in the offseason standard for low # keeper leagues?
