When to set the keeper deadline? (1 Viewer)

Our league allows you to keep up to 2 keepers, you get penalized by the round the player was selected - 2 rounds. So a 5th rounder last year is a 3rd round pick the following year.

One of the managers wants to set the deadline to determine your keepers up until the day before the draft, so he can see how his players perform during pre-season.

Is this when you usually set the deadline to determine keepers? I was leaning towards right before pre-season so we could know for sure who's in and out of the draft pool.

I don't know what other leagues do, but in our 3-keeper the deadline is a week before the draft. This gives us a chance to look at the players in camp and a couple pre-season games, and it also gives us enough time to go through the players in the pool.

Our league announces all our keepers by July 31st. It might seem a little early, but we do alot of mock drafting and most of our keepers are 1st round picks so you don't really need to know how they perform in the preaseason. The only time it has backfired was a few years ago when Vick got hurt in a preseason game.

We have a cap system in the keeper league I run. We use the same website every year, which establishes the cap values. The top 2 highest priced players set the cap. You can keep as many players as you want from last year's roster... as long as they don't go over the cap. Everyone usually ends up keeping 2 or 3 players. I make everyone trim their rosters in half (from 16 to 8) by July 31. Final cuts due a week before the draft.

Here's what I do with my league that I run:Keepers: declared the first week of Aug.......(usually coincides with the 1st preseason game)....but they can be changed for $1 fee if something drastic happens. This way:everyone can see the league's keepers, trade with another team if they see opportunity, change out a keeper if someone gets injured, andproperly prepare for the draft (which speeds things up)Everyone's happy.......The $1 fee just makes it so an owner can't be an ####### and mess with the league w/o paying a penalty.

We do not have to formally announce who we are keeping until the day of the draft. Largely, most of the owners generally know who is being kept ahead of time. My questiosn is for those who use a date before the draft, what do you do in the case of a season ending injury? Is the owner still forced to keep said player?

That is correct! We announce our 8 keepers by midnight July 31st every year like clockwork. If a guy gets hurt, suspended or sits out, then you are SOL.

We are allowed to keep 4 players in our league and I have the league declare 3 days before the draft. We don't hold our draft until after the 3rd preseason game so that no one gets screwed by preseason injuries, so that monday after the third pre season game, keepers are due and then we draft on Thursday.

We draft weekend before labor day and keepers are always due 3 weeks prior to draft. We keep 3 and move up 2 spots from prior year draft spot. If a player gets hurt then you can drop him as a backup but he cannot be replaced.
