My bet is on the Rams game on 11/1. What's your thoughts?

10th game against Cleveland @ home

Stafford's 4th start

(I think he will come close against the Rams in his 1st start)

I'd say they'll win at New Orleans but I'd be Lion to you.
Actually, I think that first game is one of their best chances for a win. Detroit's offense should be able to put points up on New Orleans and you've got to imagine the whole team will be playing very inspired ball in their first game out of the gate. I could see that game being a Lions win for sure.

Not likely. Nawlins improved their secondary in a huge way this offseason. It would seems the defense is underrated this year. Grant and Smith not playong will hurt, but not enough for that game.

Chicago, Washington, Seattle, St. Louis, Cincinati and Cleveland are all very much beatable imo...

I'm with you. If the Saints take them lightly I can see the Lions pulling that one out. Week 1 always has a lot of upsets.
Vikings if they don't have Favre. Redskins if the Vikings have Favre.
Exactly my thoughts.
The Redskins never lose to the Lions. I think it has been almost 20 years.

What happened 20 years or 10 years ago or 6 years ago has not reflection on the game at Detroit this year. Sorry but there is the first Lions win. Redskins at Detroit.

I think the Lions will win a game by week 4(I am just hoping it is not the Saints...the Saints have been slow starters). I can easily see them beating the Vikings. I think this situation with Favre is too distracting, IMO. No facts, just an opinion.

Lions are 2-3 in their last 5 regular season meetings, winning in 99 and 00, losing in 04, 07, 08 (also lost in Jan 00 playoff).http://www.atsdatabase.com/Stats/NFL/Washi...ll-Results.html

I wouldn't add the "for sure" part but agree with the logic, and would not be shocked if they upset the Saints in Week 1. If not I'll go with the Redskins game - its tough for an NFL team, no matter how bad relatively, to keep losing consecutive games.

I'd say they have a good shot week 1 or 2. If they don't win 1 of those games, it's going to be a looooooong and painful season. Actually this will probably be true regardless. My 'satisfaction' benchmark this season is 4 wins, and no more than 2 losses by more than 20 points (last year they had 5).

This topic needs a poll.

This is the breakdown of the Lions' season I posted to my FF league board a couple weeks ago. I had them beating the Redskins in week 3 for their first win.

Will go 5-11.

Sept. 13: Det @ New Orleans: L 42-24 (Shootout by the Bayou)

Sept. 20: Min @ Det: L 21-10 (Percy Harvin suspended after scoring 2nd touchdown and lighting a blunt to celebrate)

Sept. 27: Was @ Det: W 20-17 (Portis scores twice after fighting Zorn in an MMA match at halftime)

Oct 4: Det @ Chi: L 17-7 (Urlacher hits Culpepper so hard on a sack Pep turns white)

Oct. 11: Pit @ Det: L 24-9 (Roethlisberger throws 3 TDs, the last two left-handed)

Oct. 18: Det @ GB: L 28-12 (Rodgers trots out in a "4" jersey and 18 people in the stands drop dead)

BYE WEEK (LIONS DON'T LOSE)

Nov. 1: St. Louis @ Det: W 21-14 (Stafford's first start)

Nov. 8: Det @ Seattle: L 17-3 (Maurice Morris gets confused and scores twice for the Seahawks)

Nov. 15: Det @ Min: L 35-3 (ADP breaks his own single game rushing record.)

Nov. 22: Cle @ Det: W 27-17 (Shaun Rogers kicked out for eating a turkey leg at the 50 during a play in the 3rd quarter)

Nov. 26: GB @ Det: L 24-10 (Field littered with turkey and stuffing with 10 seconds left in the 4th quarter. Grady Jackson describes it afterwards as "heavenly.")

Dec. 6: Det @ Cin: W 27-23 (Ochocinco banned from NFL for life after scoring a TD and flashing the crowd in celebration)

Dec. 13: Det @ Bal: L 14-3 (Ray Lewis kills a guy.........on a tackle. Relax.)

Dec. 20: Ari @ Det: L 35-17 (Trailing 17-0 at halftime, Warner prays for a swarm of locusts to hit Lions sideline in second half. It does. :bye: )

Dec. 27: Det @ SF: W 28-24 (Game declared over with 1 second left after Singletary loses it and tackles Kevin Smith while Lions try to run out clock)

Jan. 03: Chi @ Det: L 14-10 (Lions, impressed with Singletary's tackle the week before, sign him for the game and he sets NFL single-game tackle record)

I like them to win in Week 1 vs the Saints....

They have had all offseason to reflect on last year and prepare for revenge.

If not .. beating The Rams in Fords Field coming off a bye week makes sense.

I looked back and they were 7-9 in 2007, just one win from being .500.Seems like a looooong time ago.
They started something like 6-2, so in the second half of that year you could see where they were headed.Week 1 is a pretty good guess because weird things happen frequently then.I've been meaning to find out, who do the Lions consider their biggest rival now? Or is it a non-issue until they become somewhat competitive again?

I say they win their opening home game vs. Minn. I'd also say it is more likely (not less likely) if Minn has Favre.

IIRC, Minn could have both starting DTs out for that game if suspensions come down. If they are out, Det wins that game.

I predict St Louis.

-This should be Staffords first or second start.

-He will have a bye week to prepare.

-The Rams are not that good.

There is a chance that if Stafford starts against Green Bay he may surprise them, but I'm putting my money on the Rams.

Terrible teams will always struggle even more against a team dominant on one side of the ball. I just can't see the Lions keeping the Saints under 40, and while the lions will score, it won't be enough. A lot of people predicted the Lions to beat the Saints last year with the same reasoning.

I see the Lions having very little chance at beating the Saints primarily because they will have so many new faces on defense... a defense that was one of the worst in NFL history last year. Going against a fully healthy NO team that has one of the smartest QBs in the NFL as well as a team with great play calling. I just don't see them stopping NO enough (if at all) to win.

Just havin' a little fun with a single GB fan, GB. No need to be upset. :goodposting:
Oh...Im not upset. Not sure I see them beating Minny unless the Williams boys are out.Last year is one thing...I just think Detroit still has too many issues on the O and D lines to handle Minny.
