When will the NFL "measure" talent? (1 Viewer)

After watching MJD play quite a few College games.....I thought he would be a certain 1st round pick despite being 5'6" tall at best. Combine speed is always a way to jump into a higher draft spot for some positions, and "Big" RB's are looked at as durable. But power and strength are not always improved vertically. This kid is the best rookie RB of the 2006 draft class......despite the early hype of the other "1st rounders". If anyone recalls(if you are old enough) Joe Morris and Barry Sanders.....the height issue was a concern about both of them at draft day. Jones-Drew will extend the career of Fred Taylor......and make the Jaguars one of the most feared Offenses and 300+ all purpose yards will be something he will do quite often. MJD was the best true RB in the Pac 10 for last 2 seasons......and Reggie was a close second. Will Jones-Drew be a top 12 Fantasy pick next season? Probably not........He's too SHORT! :deadhorse:

I love when its claimed that a team steals a player very late. Did NO steal Colston? Did Jax steal MJD? Tha answer is no. Otherwise, they would have been selected beforehand by those teams. Theres just no way to fully test every player. The best that the NFL thinks they can do is go by combine, size, like you said. There are greater chances of a stud RB/other position to come out that way then the way you analyzed MJD.more things:

 jaguars feared offense? i can't ever see that.

can't believe someone would ever say that.

it takes more than 3/4 of one season to determine this.

The reason MJD snuck through the draft IMO is because there were doubters about his actual running talent (vision, ability to hit the hole, etc) , not his physical talent.

Keep in mind, this was against the Colts D.

Otherwise, I actually amost agree. MJD was a steal. I liked the player pre-draft, the only reason I didn't draft him is because I had to take Leinart and Jennings instead.
