Where does Game 5 rank in Boston sports lore? (1 Viewer)

After last night's improbable come from behind victory, where does this game rank in the all time list of great New England sports victories? There have been many others as stiff competition . . .

The Pats over the Rams in the SB.

The bloody sock game.

Fisk's homer off the foul pole.

The tuck rule/snow game.

The Celts comeback against the Lakers last year.

Doug Flutie's Hail Mary.

I'm sure there are many others . . .

I realize that ultimately history may remember this game differently if they lose Game 6 vs. going on to win another WS, but be that as it may where is this game on the food chain?

Up there, like you said, this means next to nothing if we don't win the ALCS.

If we do? This is a Top 5 moment in Red Sox history, maybe Top 10 for New England sports.

I'd say the Rams game is above it, most all of the 2004 Red Sox playoffs and perhaps the Celtics last year.

But damn, I'm still all tingly over that game.

If they go on to win it catapults to the top of everything...for all sports ever.

Bloody Sock game is the best for me, game was incredible on many different levels

IF the Sox go on to be World Series champs, this slots in behind I think

After that, probably Fisk's homer

Then Pats over Rams

Tuck rule is different than these, as I think the Pats did not deserve to win

Celts comeback was great, but basketball just doesn't compare...

I was a little young for the Fisk HR so not having experienced that firsthand, I can't rank that.

For me, this is the 3rd best game in Sox history.

The only two I put in front of it are games 4 and 5 of the 2004 ALCS vs the Yankees.

The Hendu game in '86 is close though.

I'd say it vaults to the top of everything that's ever occurred in any of life's arenas, sports or not.
I was tempted to go there. That's where my heart is.
