Where does Mason rank? (1 Viewer)

I'm thinking about making some low ball offers for Mason in a few of my keeper leagues. Wanted to get your thoughts on where he ranks assuming he comes back and starts from week 1 on. Top 20? Top 30?

Anyone care to provide some projections (assuming he plays), sort of like a ***UNOFFICIAL*** Derrick Mason Player Spotlight?

I'll go with something to the tune of:

76 receptions, 960 yds, 5 tds

Last year in point-per-reception leagues, the 36th best WR (Marvin Harrison) scored 153 fantasy points. That represents (at least theoretically) the bottom of the barrel for what would pass as a #3 fantasy receiver in a 12-team league. In the NFL's history, there have been nine instances of receivers age 35+ scoring more than 150 FP. Jerry Rice represents three of those instances by himself at ages 36, 39 and 40. Which just shows what a freak of nature he really was.

But the best season ever by a WR over 35 was 181 FP posted by Chris Carter in 2000. 181 points would have been the 31st best WR last year. That's probably what Derrick Mason is staring at as his ceiling if he returns.

This is good info ,especially for people who covet TO. But one thing to point out is while you showed Marvin's PPR totals you than listed the non-PPR totals for Carter as the highest ever. This could confuse some people to think that 181 points was the highest PPR total ever posted for a WR over 35-which is not the case of course.I think in general WR's over 35 are going to lose more value in non-PPR leagues than PPR leagues as the yardage and TD's usually faster than the receptioins.
