Where is the Love for Mark Clayton? (1 Viewer)

Mark Clayton started off week 1 with 77 yards and a beautiful TD catch. He has a great young QB, Flacco, throwing him the ball, and in his past 7 regular season games with Flacco, Clayton has put up games of 164 yds and 1TD, 128 yards and 0 TD, 76 yards and 1 TD, and the week 1 77 yards and 1 td. Pretty good.

But no one seems to be talking about this guy. Sure, he's had injury problems, but he's healthy again and looking good. Seems like he's got a good shot at a top 20 finish this year.

I think you hit it on the head when you mention the injury hx. I did just pick him up off of the ww. I needed another WR for bye weeks and he is it.

I think the fact that when considering the value of any Baltimore wide outs, most people tend to downgrade them because of Baltimore's run-based offense, and Flacco having more of a "game manager" role. It just comes with the territory.

I think we're going to see the Ravens open up their offense more to take advantage of Flacco's talent and his comfort in the system. Their first six plays in Week 1 were all pass attempts and they threw more than ran to open the game. Yes that was against the Chiefs but I think it was a sign that the Ravens are going to strive for more balance this season. Flacco has a strong arm and the ability to make plays downfield. If Clayton stays healthy, he could be a prime beneficiary. I'm not sure Clayton has Top 20 potential like the OP suggests but I do think he rank in the 25-30 range, making him a solid WR3. I like him a lot this week against the Chargers, who still appear to have some issues defensively.

I took him in the 1st round of my rookie draft when he came out of Oklahoma, and I couldn't believe I was able to get him so late (# 9). He just has never taken the next step. You can blame his nagging injuries, or his offensive system/qb, I guess. We have 25 man rosters in my league (10 teamer), and Clayton wasn't definitely on the bubble, so this is a nice surprise. I think he is talented enough to be a solid fantasy receiver, he just has never seemed to put it all together.

For those that did not watch the game last week, they were picking on the corner (Leggett) that was playing Clayton. He was substituting for the Chiefs' top corner (Flowers). This is why Clayton saw more targets than Mason. This is why Leggett had eight tackles. I do not expect this to play out each week in the same way. By the way, Heap looked awesome in the game.

Between Mason, Clayton, Heap, the RBs, and the other receivers, the ball will likely be spread out. There should be plenty of games where Baltimore is up and can just pound the ball. They didnt begin pounding until the second half last week. In San Diego playing with the crowd and their offense, I expect more running earlier in the game. Clayton is undervalued, but I dont expect Baltimore to apply the same offensive strategy all year.

IMO Clayton is a great buy low dynasty investment that could start paying dividends somewhere between tomorrow and next year. Mason should be retiring after this year so I expect Clayton to become the #1 WR for Baltimore in what looks like a VERY productive offense with a superstar QB of the future.

Today's stat line: 1 catch, 20 yards, no touchdowns. Vintage Mark Clayton! He gets no love because he deserves no love.
But that was great self defense I just saw. If he hadn't got his hands in the way of his last target it might have hit him in the chest or face. Luckily there was no damage as the ball bounced softly off the turf.

Mark Clayton-WR-Ravens

Ravens beat writer Jamison Hensley believes that the team is willing to listen to offers for restricted free agent Mark Clayton.

According to Hensley, Clayton's original pick tender "shouts out" that he's available for trade. Currently, Clayton is slated to battle Donte' Stallworth and perhaps Justin Harper to be Baltimore's third receiver. Should he fall behind Stallworth and/or Harper, Clayton could be released outright.
