Even though Oakland has played against tough defenses so far, they just look horrible. Lamont has zero catches, after 70 last year. They haven't scored a TD. They've given up 15 sacks. Four mishandlings of the C to QB snaps in one game. That has nothing to do with the defenses that they are facing, that's personnel. The play calling is atrocious. But I feel the area that they need the most help (aside from Al Davis handing over control of the team) is the OL. They've addressed the OL in recent drafts, but the draft picks just haven't worked out. Gallery was the right pick at the time. They were looking at 15 years of Pro Bowl blocking up front. What happened to him? At current pace, they will give up 120 sacks this season. It doesn't matter who they start at QB (Brooks, Walter, Tui), the QB can't complete a pass with defenders constantly trying to rip his head off.

And the Jerry Porter situation... I heard Greg Papa (Raiders play-by-play announcer) on a morning sports talk show (it was either Bruno or the Rise Guys on 1140 KHTK, I can't remember) saying that the reason Porter isn't playing is because he plays the same WR position as Moss. They are both WR1 players. Currently, Moss is the WR1. You would think that they would play Porter opposite Moss as the WR2. But instead they want to spread the field, so they use their speed guy Alvis Whitted for that position. And Ronald Curry occupies the slot receiver. So unless Porter can beat out Moss in practice or the Raiders start running 4 WR sets, Porter isn't going to get in. This sounds like a bunch of crap to me. Shell doesn't see eye to eye with Porter and his pride and hubris is more important to him than putting the best team on the field.

I am in no way a Raider fan, just a Bay Area resident, so the Raiders dominate the airwaves.

30 votes for Oakland

6 for Tennessee

1 for Houston

Such near unanimity on this kind of topic is truly rare around here.

The question is will the 9ers be a double-digit favorite by the time their game with Oakland comes up?

I think Oak is getting all the votes due to angry FFers who thought this team would have some quality producers. There is no way they should be winning this poll by that much.

Unless...ya know... they are in fact the worst team? I own no raiders and this was a no brainer.

I wanted nothing to do with any Oakland players on my fantasy team!!! the only way I would have drafted any would be if they had dropped down a few ROUNDS further than they were projected at going.

I hate Oakland, but the thing with them is that it wouldn't surprise me to see them put one decent gameplan together (for once) and actually maximize their talent.

Tennessee, now that's just a dogshyt team across the board.

Oakland should win this in a landslide. Lousy team, lousy coach, lousy front office. At least Tennessee has a good coach who might be able to put together some decent efforts despite the talent he has to work with.

Oakland gave up 9 sacks in the opener and 6 more to Baltimore...and it could have been a lot worse. Oakland QBs risk their lives every time they drop back to pass; That's how bad the OLine is. The sack stats don't show how many times balls were thrown away in desperation to avoid another sack.

On defense, the guy who has looked the best so far is *Warren Sapp*. Granted he lost some weight and appears to have a renewed committment to the game, but still the D is in trouble if he's the stud...especially at this stage of his career. Another guy who has looked good is a rookie...Thomas Howard at OLB. Kirk Morrison looks like he'll be a decent MLB, so he rounds out the top tier (chuckle) of the Oakland D. The D has had some good stretches in both games, but hasn't played a good whole game and likely won't as it continues to see an insane amount of playing time thanks to the inept offense. I'm waiting for a mutiny by these defensive pirates any week now.

I have no problem with a coach benching a player who causes disruptions and doesn't buy into the coach's vision for the team. Maybe Art Shell has a poor vision, but when you're trying to rebuild a team that's been pretty bad the last 3-4 years you have to make drastic changes.

Right now, I think Tennessee is actually worse than Oakland, however Tennessee is by far better positioned for the future. Oakland appears doomed until Al Davis dies or relinquishes control of the team (or has it taken away for being mentally unfit to make decisions).
