Defense wins championships. If this statment is true which of those two great defenses would you want. If you were playing in the super bowl.

My bad! I voted Bears but that's because I thought we were talking about the '85 Bears :lol:I didn't read very closely and answered too quickly because I couldn't even imagine a poll asking about this year's Bears team :bag:

I voted bears as well. My mistake. I thought you must have been talking about 85. Change mine to 2000 Ravens.Singeltary == Lewis

I think the '05 Bears defense was exposed for the fraud it is today. They really played some weak offensive teams this year -- Cleveland, Minnesota (twice), Baltimore, Detroit (twice), New Orleans, San Francisco, Tampa Bay, Green Bay (twice). Still a tough D but just not in the class of the best of all-time.

Ravens '00.The NFL shouldn't even let a team from the NFC North into the playoffs at this point. They all suck and keep more deserving teams out of the playoffs. As stated above, the Chicago Bears were exposed as a fraud this afternoon. They had two quality wins all season long and a bunch of close victories against marginally talented teams. :banned:

2005 Bears . . . 12.625 points per game2000 Ravens . . . 10.3125 points per game1985 Bears . . . 12.375 points per gameBut no one ever includes1977 Falcons . . . 9.214 points per game

I would take the 1976 Steelers. Has there ever been a better 9 game stretch than this:| 6 | Cincinnati Bengals | W | 23- 6 || 7 | at New York Giants | W | 27- 0 || 8 | San Diego Chargers | W | 23- 0 || 9 | at Kansas City Chiefs | W | 45- 0 || 10 | Miami Dolphins | W | 14- 3 || 11 | Houston Oilers | W | 32-16 || 12 | at Cincinnati Bengals | W | 7- 3 || 13 | Tampa Bay Buccaneers | W | 42- 0 || 14 | at Houston Oilers | W | 21- 0 |A total of 28 points in 9 games.

1985 Bears: 3 playoff games, 10 total points allowed2000 Ravens: 4 playoff games, 23 total points allowed2005 Bears: 1 playoff game, 29 points allowed. One of these teams is not like the others.

The original "Grits Blitz". :thumbup: I would also include the '76 Steelers defense as one of the frontrunners for top defense ever. 138 points allowed in 14 games (with only 28 points in the final 9 games) for a 9.86 ppg average and 5 shutouts.

Speaking of great defenses, the 1934 Lions started off with 7 straight shutouts. They only gave up 59 points in 13 games on the season (4.5 ppg). They lost their last 3 games to end up 10-3 and didn't make it to the title game (there were no playoffs then). That was the year the Bears went 13-0 and lost in the title game.The 32 Bears allowed only 44 points in 14 games (3.1 ppg) and had an amazing 6 ties (three 0-0) and a 2-0 loss.

The 1929 Packers allowed 22 points on the season in going 12-0-1 (1.69 ppg). The 1927 Giants only allowed 20 points in 13 games (1.54).

But the all-time best on a ppg basis was the 1922 Canton Bulldogs who only allowed 15 points in 12 games (1.25 ppg), but they probably did not have to face the 2004 Colts.
