Which guys are going to be a steal on the 2nd day? (1 Viewer)

I just said in the Draft Thread that I am salivating at the prospects of Dan Connor on the Dolphins. It just seems like such a perfect fit to me.

I'll probably get lambasted for this, but I don't think ANY of these guys are steals. They are still out there for one reason or another. Keep in mind, EVERY team passed on them, some multiple times. They are only "steals" because everyone saw them as 1st or 2nd round picks in mocks and expert rankings. The fact is, GMs and scouts didn't deem them worthy.

Eh, I understand that the general feeling is that many of the middle-round players have approximately equal value this year. But some of them will almost certainly make the 31 teams who passed look dumb.

The problem is you're saying a player's ADP = how good he will be in the NFL. That's just not true, qb's like rick mirer, ryan leaf, kyle boller, tim couch were early 1st round picks while tom brady went in the 6th round. Heck jeff garcia and kurt warner both went undrafted. Every year GM's and scouts take guys who bust meanwhile quality players fall to the later rounds or go undrafted

Dan Connor is NOT a perfect fit for any team that runs a 3-4 defense (ie Miami Dolphins)...I personally hope Miami can trade this pick to someone who is in love with Connor and pick up a mid and late 3rd round pick for it....Then take Orlando Sandrick (CB) with the mid 3rd and either Jeremy Zuttah (OL) or Roy Schuening (OG) with the late 3rd...Then grab Steve Slaton with the 4th we got for Lorenzo Booker...That would be my plan if I were Miami GM....

If it really matters to how you project Scandrick on the next level, he may actually be a better safety prospect than corner.

Can you elaborate?I think he'd make a fine corner... do you think he doesn't project well to corner in the pros?In fact I think he's be a real steal in the mid-late 3rd!!![not to hijack]

You're right and I guess that sort of contradicts what I previously posted. There will definitely be guys who outperform their draft position. I guess I'm tired of guys being listed as "steals" based on where the consensus had them going. We won't know who is a steal until they actually play (i.e. Brady). It's probably more semantics than anything, but it bothers me none the less. :goodposting:

Maybe you're reading into this more than it is. Of course we won't know if they are a steal until they actually play but it doesn't mean we can't try to predict who they will end up being. That's all this is about. Who do you think has fallen into the second day that will end up having a huge NFL impact. I didn't ask "which guy has been at the top of all mock drafts that wasn't drafted and thus is a steal right now".

You're right. And like I said, more semantics than anything else. There will certainly be guys drafted on the 2nd day that have huge NFL impacts.Sorry for the :excited: I just get bothered by the "how can this guy possibly still be on the board" talk and the instant grading of a draft. Of course that is what fans and armchair GMs find the most entertaining. I should probably just stay off the boards on Draft Day. :hophead:

Dolfan's BOARD:

1) Dan Connor (MLB)

2) Justin King (CB)

3) Jamaal Charles (RB)

4) DaJuan Morgan (S)

5) Kevin Smith (RB)

6) Marcus Harrison (DL)

7) Charles Godfrey (CB)

8) Reggie Smith (S)

9) Cliff Avril (OLB)

Here's hoping Miami finds a trade-down partner...

I don't think Early Doucet went. I think he's a pretty safe WR to take. I'd take a look if I were Indy. Could be an asset Year 1 as a third WR if Harrison doesn't come back.

Wasn't the WR from Vandy supposed to be taken already? Think last name is Bennett.

I continue to believe that Colt Brennan will eventually be a successful starting NFL QB, and people will wonder how he dropped as low as he did.

Dan Connor

Jamaal Charles

Manningham

Doucet

John David Booty

Kevin Smith

Xavier Adibi

ETA: I really wish Cleveland would try to move up and grab Charles. I think he would be a great compliment to Lewis.

I like the way you think. And I think the 3.01 this year has increased perceived value over previous years - teams have more time to fall in love with Connor or some other player and feel like it's worth it to make a splash now rather than miss the chance. I think Connor would fit well with Chicago, Detroit, or Houston and all of them have 2 third round picks.

:lmao: Agreed! Ignore the haters. I don't see how one admittedly awful game took a Heisman trophy runner-up who was projected to be a mid-to-late 1st rounder all season and immediately dropped him through the floor where he's ranked below absolute garbage QBs who are nowhere near his skill level.Mike Hart? I understand. His injury problems make him way too much of a reach until the later rounds. If you're going to downgrade a player based on a blown championship game, Peyton Manning would have never been drafted!

The one that jumps out to me is Dan Connor.
slow, indecisve white LBs are defintiely a high priority in the NFL. :) They are usually are only successful if they are being fed the stolen play calls in advance so they can use their smarts to offset the lack of athletic ability. Now that the rest of the league will join NE in miking defenders, he may have a future

Mario Manningham..........think he'll still make a positive impact on most NFL teams. Be happy if you get him.
I think landing with the Giants is a great fit. He slid about as far as a guy could slip with the talent he posses and the risk/reward for this guy in the late 3rd is an easy risk to take.Love the pick by the Giants, the Cowboys picked 2 or 3 selections later, I wonder if they were eyeing him as well.
