ESPN to me killed NFL NETWOK.

The clock running, knowing who was next and just overall coverage.

ESPN just needs to get rid of Boomer doing the Draft and we'll be fine!

I don't have NFL Network :hot: , so I can't compare......but

My biggest complaint about ESPN was they would finally put a player that was previously selected on the screen with his face, height, weight, and couple of other notes............but I couldn't tell which team had selected him b/c they didn't list the NFL team!.

Especially confusing in the middle to late rounds when players were flying off the board and ESPN was trying to keep up. Also confusing for those of us that had the TV on with the sound down or those kept popping back and forth between programs.

I really want to say the NFL Network, but it wasn't close. ESPN met my needs best.

Needs:

1- Let me know who the hell got drafted ASAP

2- Let me know how much time is left on the clock

3- Let me know who's drafting in the next few slots

4- Let me know what happend with trades ASAP

5- Don't let commercials interupt info distribution

6- Analysis (Talking Heads)

NFL Network really blew the first couple. The ESPN frame kept me up to date on the clock, who was picking, and the whole bottom portion of the frame lit up when a pick was made. NFL Network didn't have a clock, had a lame little scrolling bar across the bottom, and it at least seemed that they were way behind during the later rounds. It's as if NFL Network was relying on the analysis to float the show.

I watched NFL network through the entire first two rounds before moving to ESPN. I wasn't even going to give ESPN a chance until I realized in passing what they had to offer. Hopefully NFL Network steps up next year.

Espn has had many years to get it right, thought they did their best job ever. NFL did a decent job considering it was their first year.

I watched both pretty equally, liked having fewer ads to watch by flipping channels.

Just wanted to add that Merle Hoge is still an idiot. Totally blew the first pick on their preview show, didn't even know which teams he was drafting for.

ESPN had the best 1st day coverage. But on Day 2 NFL network stole the show becasue they dont have a multiple-sport fan base like ESPN does. ESPN eventually has to cater to Baseball , Hockey, Basketball, ETC.

NFL network day 2 was sweet actually. They went team by team and showed brief highlight of each player the team had selected from round 1 to current. So when say Green Bay was up the showed pick ones highlights then thier pick twos highlights and so on.

ESPN day 2 they would be talking football and the only reason you know someone got drafted was the ticker at the bottom of the screen.

As far as commentary I think the ESPN was more entertaining to the avg football fan, big names, people you've known for awhile. But NFL network was less entertainment and more information and analysis. They were showing highlight film and critiquing(sp?) the 5th 6th and even 7th round picks. Mayoch and Chavous I think know more about the players.

I will say Kiper > Mayoch but they only occasionally chimed in on Kipers opinion

on day 2.

ESPN's analysis was poor IMO and they had too many people at their desk. Kiper, who is supposed to be THE guy could barely get a word in on Day 1. NFL Network did a much better job with this IMO and Corey Chaverous was pretty ####### good. That being said, the overall coverage has to go to ESPN with the picks etc. NFL Network did report all the Day 1 drafts before ESPN though. I kept flipping between the two. When NFL went to commercial, I was on ESPN, then when Berman or Irvin did/said something that made zero sense, I switched back to NFL. I think next year NFL Networks will be much better.

I can't get NFL network :hot:  , but I was wondering about the coach interviews. Did NFL network have as many as ESPN? What about the 1st round player interviews? I don't remember seeing some of the 1st rounders being interviewed, specifically Bunkley. Don't they usually have a crew at the top 20 picks houses?

I thought ESPN was just awful. Trades are happening, picks being made, and it takes them 25 minutes to report what happened. The screen shows the Jets on the clock, all of a sudden, it's Washington, and they don't have a thing to say about it.... they are too busy yacking with Trent Green to cover the draft.

M Irvin is an ahborant idiot. Berman's act is old. get Jaws and Tory Holt on there, and keep up with the draft, not all the fluff nonsense they kept feeding us. Holt was REALLY good.

If they just put a priority of making trades and picks the most important thing, yes, over any stinkin interview with Tagliabue, I'd be OK with the rest of their schtick. When I have to go to NFL.com to find out what a trade deal included before ESPN eventually gets around to it.... that's pathetic.

Agree pretty much with everyone else. NFL Network had better analysis but did a poor job with their ticker and keeping everyone updated with the picks as they happened. So I found myself watching ESPN more for that.

There was a poll on here somewhere on Saturday and the Network destroyed ESPN.

On Saturday, NFL Network > ESPN. Sunday, w/o all the Irvin, and someone else could get a word in, I watched ESPN.

For what I NEED, ESPN was without a doubt head and shoulders.

ESPN did a fair job of trades. You could see the team logo change on the ticker then, yeah it took some time, but they got you the info fairly quickly. I was never without knowing that someone traded because of the ticker.

NFL network was slow, and stodgy. But you knew ALOT more about the person who got picked with their film and mayok.

I felt bad for Kiper... his time to shine and complete and utter moron Michael Irvin... waste of breathing air, sat there and argued with EVERYONE. ESPN get a clue! Tom was making fun of him, and Mort was baffled half the time with him.

Sucks, otherwise ESPN was superior.

I thought the Network did better than ESPN. That said, if I see one more draft history lesson with Steve Sabol and the 1974 Steelers, I'm going to puke. WTF does this have to do with anything? Back to the rookies, not the retirees.

:wall:

Speaking of Irvin (whom I also hate):

Last we heard, he was in the final year of his ESPN contract and then came his 1 week suspension b/c of the bizarre "not my drugs in my car" episode. Many people speculated that ESPN wouldn't fire him and just simply not re-new his contract at ESPN.

Anyone know the update of Irvin's contract w/ ESPN?
