Which NFL franchise is the least popular on a national level? (1 Viewer)

Did a search, couldn't find...

Just wondering about the general perception out there.

My votes are:

AFC - Jacksonville Jaguars

It starts with having to block of sections of your stadium. Then there's the awful color scheme. Then the lack of star power.

NFC - Seattle Seahawks

Banished to the Pacific Northwest. Another bad, IMO, color scheme. Switching conferences probably didn't help.

Overall - Jacksonville

Anyone else?

Originally interpreted "least popular" as "most hated", but I see where you're going with this.

AFC - Jacksonville, with Houston 2nd. The second Peyton Manning retires, the Colts enter the running here. They were sort of irrelevant nationally pre-Manning.

NFC - I'll go with Arizona, simply because back in their NFC East days, the Eagles could usually count on a local blackout for the home Cardinals game. Honorable mention to Detroit (for getting forced down America's throat every Thanksgiving, though I'm against changing tradition), and Tampa Bay (least memorable SB champ of last 15 years).

Cards, Browns,Texans, Lions, and :cringe: the Jets. Most of the pub I see in the media for the NY teams is always very Giants-oriented.

Do you think the color of the uniform matters that much?

It certainly doesn't help their marketablility. But no, it's probably not a huge factor, and it was just a backhanded swipe anyway. But dayum, those ARE some ugly unis. Bring back the silver Seahawks helmets!

The Jaguars have to be the least popular team in the NFL. They are a young franchise and they are swallowed by the Gators in North Florida.

And I think there are only 4 or 5 of us Jags fans on this Site.

Didn't think of the Ravens but their fan base is essentially landlocked by the Eagles to the North and the Redskins to the South. Very narrow demographic to draw from there.

I'm a Jags fan and would agree completely with that pick. They don't have a SINGLE rivalry. That's what ultimately creates popularity in my opinion. Not just the fanbase but opposing fanbases loving to HATE them.

Nobody hates the Jags. They could drop completely out of the NFL and be replaced by an L.A. team and the number of people who would REALLY care either way are in the 4-digits IMO.

Jacksonville and Arizona

Detroit still gets their token T'day game each year and overall comes from a very strong sports city with the Tigers, Pistons, and Red Wings.

:loco: Right on point.

Until this past season I would say it was New Orleans hands down
I agree. Prior to what took place in New Orleans the Saints were not even the most popular team in the state of Louisiana. Everything north of Baton Rouge was Cowboy country. Tthe Saints loyal following was essentially in southern Louisiana between Lafayette, Houma, Baton Rouge, all of New Orleans and every parrish sprinkled in that area, bra. (Little inside reference for any local NOLA residents.) I can remember moving to Texas and owning a fair amount of Saints gear. I wore a Saints hat one day and was laughed at...out loud...by a number of people or asked what the logo stood for by others.

I agree with Andy...

AFC - Jacksonville: 2nd smallest TV market in the NFL without the history or fan base of the smallest market team (Green Bay). A lack of marketable stars, especially at the skill positions (Jimmy Smith? Fred Taylor?) has hurt this team as well.

NFC - Seattle: Large market, but little national sports presence. A lack of established NFC rivalries and a history of being mostly mediocre makes this franchise almost forgettable.

Even then... the Braves won their division year after year and often had a half-empty house in August and September.

Another numbnut stiller fan proving his homerism overides common sense. The Browns have fans all over the world. The Browns probably have more fans in Nebraska than the stillers have in any other state not named PA. We probably have more fans in Scotland than the stillers have in any other country not named the USA.

I agree I hate pretty much everything the stillers have stood for post Chuck Noll and everything that the Cowboys have stood for post Tom Landry, but I'll admit both teams have a lot of fans. They are popular. Also hated, but popular.

NFL is still a great place even the unpopular jags had the 2nd best defense out there. Imagine next year they might even win the superbowl. Look at the colts who would think they would win the superbowl with that defense who let the jags run all over them. What was it 400 rushing yards. ( I dont remember lol)

And how bout when this team's stars retired and they started fading back to the pack? Sure, huge fan base, but just as big (if not bigger) bandwagon:Dallas Cowboys 25 22 11 12 14 14 15

Now, the ORIGINAL Cleveland Browns I could agree with, but I don't concider your new expansion Cleveland Browns to have much popularity. After the old Browns shipped out to Baltimore, there would be 1/2 as many Cleveland fans now if Cincy had just gotten good a couple years earlier.

:goodposting: Considering how bad the Browns have been they are a very popular team.Personally I think it's the Texans hands down. I'm shocked people view the Jaguars as being less popular. The Texans have never had a winning season (Jacksonville's played in AFC championship games).

There are smart fans, homer fans and dumb fans for every single team. There are no exceptions and really no differences in the ratios from team to team. Putting yourself in the position to speak with unintelligent fans is more then likely partly your own fault.I mean really you’re talking about Texas and Western Pa, the two of the most passionate regions of football in the whole country. If you can’t find respect for those fan bases or discover good fans to talk football with then I don’t think you’re even trying.

While the Saints might not be very popular on a national level, I believe they have one of the most loyal core fan bases in all of pro sports. Consider the fact that the Saints went over 30 years before winning a single playoff game. Consider the fact that the Saints have averaged about 6 wins a year. The Saints should be lucky for having any fans at all. But in reality New Orleans has consistently been supportive of the team. Even in the worst seasons, you'd be hard pressed to find a New Orleans native who isn't a Saints fan.

Houston had the Oilers and pro football has been imbedded in that city for a long time. Those that didn't follow the Titans franchise in their move to Tennessee are, IMO, the reason the Texans aren't the least popular team in the NFL.The Jags don't have that to fall back on. It takes time for a small market, college-minded city, with no history to reference, to gather a fan base.

As soon as the Browns start making the playoffs again, their displaced fans will regain their voices. Much like Steeler fans they have to move all over the country because their cities are slowly dieing. It’s just harder for Browns fans outside of Cleveland to find stuff to cheer for. When they eventually make a deep playoff run or the Super bowl, watch for their fans base across the nation to explode.

Western PA may be passionate, but the talent comes from Texas, Ohio, and Florida. I'll let the Philly fans attack you on the western PA thing. Being a Brown's fan, I used to respect the Steelers in the Chuck Noll era. I didn't like them, but I respected them. I firmly believe that Jack Lambert was one of the best LB's ever. He was one of the primary reasons I respected the team. I remember the games and even when we lost I could say " I hate Lambert, but that was a good hit he put on Rucker" I used to hear the same stuff from Steeler fans, it was always bitter but respectful. The steeler fans changed about the time Modell moved to Baltimore. Now they are loud conceited and pretty much guys that I would punch in the face if they said the same thing in a bar. They think that you have to worship them when they win the Super Bowl and 1/4 of their division is starting from scratch. They have some very knowledgeable fans, but most of them thought that somewhere along the line they had a right to be total jerks. I would never have a problem with the new steeler fans, if they were anything close to the old steeler fans, but the facts are they are jerks first and and fans second. It's not that I don't respect the players on their team now, but their fans make it tough to respect anything about the team. I really like a few guys on their team. Troy P. and H Ward are 2 guys that can make any team better. The fans make it hard for me to show respect for any of those guys. One good thing about the steeler fans though is that they'll fade into the woodwork when they start loosing, and I think that's gonna happen this year. Nothing better to shut a jerk up than to show him that he's bragging about something that doesn't exist anymore.

A misinformed Browns fan, suprise, suprise. Actually Pennsylvania has the most members in the NFL Hall of Fame with 26. http://www.profootballhof.com/hof/birthplace.jsp
