Looking to join a dynasty league and got in contact with someone with a number of orphaned teams to choose from (across like 20 different leagues).

MFL PPR start QB, 1-3 Rb, 1-4 WR, 1-3 TE

The 3 teams below are the ones I'm considering. Let me know if you think one stands out as the best buy! TIA!

Team 1- Qbs: Manning, Eli; Newton, Cam

Rbs: Abdullah, Ameer; Kamara, Alvin; Kelley, Rob; Mixon, Joe; Peterson, Adrian; Rawls, Thomas; Washington, Dwayne; Yeldon, T.J.

Wrs: Aiken, Kamar; Beasley, Cole; Brown, John; Cobb, Randall; Hilton, T.Y.; Sanu, Mohamed; Tate, Golden

Tes: Doyle, Jack; Walker, Delanie

Team 2- Qbs: Carr, Derek; Rodgers, Aaron

Rbs: Forte, Matt; McCoy, LeSean; Perine, Samaje; Williams, Joe

Wrs: Austin, Tavon; Benjamin, Travis; Boyd, Tyler; Dorsett, Phillip; Enunwa, Quincy; Hilton, T.Y.; Hogan, Chris; LaFell, Brandon; Landry, Jarvis; Marshall, Brandon

Tes: Barnidge, Gary; Everett, Gerald; Walford, Clive

Team 3- Qbs: Fitzpatrick, Ryan; Ryan, Matt; Tannehill, Ryan

Rbs: Johnson, Duke; Kamara, Alvin; Miller, Lamar; Morris, Alfred; Murray, Latavius; Perkins, Paul;

Wrs: Aiken, Kamar; Carroo, Leonte; Davis, Corey; Maclin, Jeremy; Matthews, Rishard; Parker, DeVante; Perriman, Breshad; Samuel, Curtis;

Tes: Barnidge, Gary; Bennett, Martellus

As important as the rosters themselves are the rosters of the rest of the league.  I'd rather take over a weaker lineup in a league with a lot of balanced, competitive teams, than a stronger one in a stacked league where one or two squads have a near-monopoly on the studs.

Building up a team from the bottom is fun, but swimming uphill in a lopsided league can be frustrating.

Yea I looked through some of the team's. Obviously most are stronger than the 3 I would be getting but none seemed too dominant (a couple of teams that had both Zeke and David johnson though). Seemed few repeat champions.

I'd take team 1 . I like Mixon/ Abdullah at RB and Hilton at WR.  None of the three rosters really jump out at me though as a clear "winner"

I'd take team 2. Your RBs need more depth, but you have the best QB, TY and Landry, and McCoy.  That's a great starting point.  You can try and trade away some of the lesser talent to consolidate and get another stud if you're able. None of these teams are contenders right now, but I like the possibilities of this team winning in the near future. The other 2 seem like complete restarts imo.

If I were going to take the dive into one of these pools it would be Team 2.  Team 1 would be my second choice, only because I like those TE's much better than those of Team 2.

When you take over a dynasty team, you're almost by definition rebuilding. In a rebuild, there are really only two types of players that matter:

  • Studs
  • Players with some likelihood of becoming studs (including draft picks)
I really do think this decision is as easy as going down the rosters and breaking out those players for each team:

Team 1

Studs: Hilton

>50% likely studs: Mixon

<50% likely studs: Abdullah, Kamara

Team 2

Studs: A-Rod (half credit for QBs), McCoy, Hilton, Landry

>50% likely studs: Carr (half credit)

<50% likely studs: Perine, Boyd

Team 3

Studs: None (if you want to give half-credit to Miller I'd listen)

>50% likely studs: C. Davis

<50% likely studs: Kamara, Parker, Perriman, Samuel

If you assign 1 point, 2/3 point, and 1/3 point to the respective categories, you get 2-1/3 for Team 1, 4-1/2 for Team 2, and ~2-1/2 for Team 3. You can quibble about the names on the margins or how many points to assign which group, but they won't really impact the conclusion here.

The funny thing is that when I first looked at your post, I thought Teams 1 and 2 were pretty comparable ... and they are, in that if they played H2H 16 times  this season, they'd probably come out about even. But that means nothing in a rebuild! Reliable, established vets help contenders win titles, but to you they're only worth what they can bring back in trades. And from that perspective, Team 2's the one you want, and it's really not close.

1 and 2 are close.

I'd lean towards Team 1 because it's got more interesting secondary pieces (Cam, Kamara, Peterson, Cobb, Tate, J. Brown, Doyle, etc.) and because the core guys are a little younger (definitely prefer Mixon over McCoy).
