Verbal Kint

This is one of the more interesting dilemmas for me this year.

Portis, when healthy is an uberstud, and can easily crack the top 5 in an Al Saunders offense. Assuming he can keep Betts relegated to a backup role instead of a full blown RBBC.

MJD, as a rookie, put up 15 TDs, good enough for RB8. If he can replicate these numbers he's already got alot of upside baked in already from his current ADP. If he can push Taylor aside, can he be even better?

MJD is one of the players I am avoiding this year. I like the kid but I think that he had a career year last year as far as TDs go. No way that he repeats that amount. He's being drafted based on his stats from last year and his ADP shows.

Of course Portis is an injury risk but since you specifically mentioned upside this one for me is Portis hands down. He was a top 5 RB last year before the injury (during the preseason anyway - I believe his ADP was 1.05) and if healthy he'll be a top 10 player. That's upside.

This is pretty much how I goit to my Portis vote.

MJD has, by far, the most upside. His playmaking skills all over the field are an indication of how great he can be. These types of players score and make things happen. They find ways to get involved. How long can Fred Taylor stay healthy? MJD would be a top 10 back with him, imagine what he'd be WITHOUT him. He is the type of player like Priest Holmes and Marshall Faulk, but cheaper. Much like the doubters of Priest Holmes in his breakout year, he won't silence them until a few games in, but when he turns it on, he will be an annual top 5 pick for years to come.

In the 2 redrafts i have done MJD has gone higher. I got Portis 20th overall to go along side LT2 :bag: In the other he went 21. In both leagues there was no RB's taken for 10 picks after him.. I guess he is the last in line of what people feel like a #2 RB or top 3 round rb is. Im happy with him. I did burn picks on turner and betts later.

this is almost a ridiculous question considering MJD is 1 year into the league with no pro injury history while CPort hasn't done anything since his early denver days. How stupid does Washington look now considering Champ had 4 COMPLETED PASSES AGAINST him last year?

Might wanna revisit or visit the stats...

Portis YPC is down over a yard since he left DEN. He had the 11 TDs 2 years ago which was nice but now with the injury bug biting and Betts breathing down his neck I don't see how you would not want MJD out of these two. IMO of course.

Seems like BlackStar been smokin' the BlackHash. :stirspot:

those stats look like a downswing, don't they? If you think he's going to get 350 carries anymore you're kidding yourself. We're talking UPSIDE.

MJD had 13 TDs with half the touches last year vs. CPort's best year in Washington. Maybe you need some more hash in your diet?

Didn't realize it was so debatable that it needed to be spelled out.

What needed to be spelled out with stats was your comments "while CPort hasn't done anything since his early denver days""anything"??He may not ever reach his 1st 2 seasons with Den, but "hasn't done anything"2004-RB112005-RB6

you're right, he had a pretty good year in 2k5. still downswinging in comparison to MJD. Then again, I'm jaded. I'm used to having a top 5 back every season.

Verbal Kint,

I would be very wary of this statement. Portis has not been even close to his Denver-self since he moved to the Redskins. Add to this that he is now experiencing problems with his knee ...

MJD will continue to shine and he has more upside this year and beyond then Portis.

Portis, when healthy is an uberstud, and can easily crack the top 5 in an Al Saunders offense. Assuming he can keep Betts relegated to a backup role instead of a full blown RBBC.

My :lmao:

CP ceiling

MJD ceiling

MJD floor

CP floor <---- injury related

My thoughts

MJD's ceiling

Clinton Portis's ceiling

Clinton Portis's floor (barring injury)

MJD's floor

Clinton Portis's floor (including injury risk)

This is just for non-PPR leagues. If you have PPR, MJD shoots way up the rankings.

Portis is an elite back, despite recent injury problems and Ladell Betts

MJD is a good back, who also had injury problems and is competing with a far better player (re: Betts) in Taylor

This is a myth!!! Clinton Portis put up his second highest career rushing yardage season in WAS. It's not like he went from uberstud to chopped liver.

fixed :P

switz,

Portis fantasy production [ppg] has been 27.78% below his Denver production since arriving in Washington.

2002 - 18.08 ppg

2003 - 21.12 ppg

Total - 19.44 ppg

2004 - 13.13 ppg

2005 - 14.95 ppg

2006 - 13.91 ppg

Total - 14.04 ppg

It is not even close!

On top of the fact that Portis should be labeled "China Clinton" or "Porcelain Portis". He is more fragile than "Fragile Fred". He has only played in all 16 games twice out of 5 years, and if you drop the bar a bit to 15 games it is only been 3 times out of 5 years.
