You gotta be kidding.I voted 90s as well, seems like Wu Tang is about the only thing that came out of that mess.

The first half of that period had some pretty good rock from the "grunge" bands. The 2nd half had some pretty good dance/house/techno. Pop during the 90's was dreadful.Marayln Manson? You gotta be kidding.I voted 90s as well, seems like Wu Tang is about the only thing that came out of that mess.![]()
But I don't like grunge music. I like some of the Soundgarden stuff, maybe Smashing Pumpkins. The rest of it is fodder for me, I don't like any of that stuff really. The first half of that period had some pretty good rock from the "grunge" bands. I do like Kyle Minogue as far as dance. Do you have other examples to refresh my memory?
Really? The 1990s were the golden age of hip hop.I voted 90s as well, seems like Wu Tang is about the only thing that came out of that mess.
I think the 80s were. Maybe early 90s, then it went down hill with a few exceptions (Eminem, Jay Z, Wu Tang, Common, etc).Really? The 1990s were the golden age of hip hop.I voted 90s as well, seems like Wu Tang is about the only thing that came out of that mess.

Different genre - I also really liked Sublime though I know they're not everyone's cup of tea.
i'd never heard of this song, so i had to check it out. you're right. it's the worst. more troubling is the 54M+ views on YouTube. i'm changing my vote to this decade.Since that "Selfie" song just came out by the Chainsmokers, I'm gonna say this decade, hands down. Worst song in the history of music, and it actually makes me angry when it comes on the radio. I won't provide a link, because I respect you guys too much.
I just looked this up too. It's not the worst song in the history of music (Don't Worry Be Happy), but it does suck.i'd never heard of this song, so i had to check it out. you're right. it's the worst. more troubling is the 54M+ views on YouTube. i'm changing my vote to this decade.Since that "Selfie" song just came out by the Chainsmokers, I'm gonna say this decade, hands down. Something I did in school and still will do today if I see it in a jukebox, is select it to play every other song for an hour. People get really angry about this and I usually egg the crowd on in finding the culprit. It's really a good experiment in human nature.I just looked this up too. Officer Pete Malloy said:"this decade" is winning![]()
And I'm the miserable old man.
Quote from the article linked in the OP.There's no time like the present...for bad music. Forty-two percent of Americans think that this decade has the worst music compared with the other four most recent decades. Next in order are the 2000s (15 percent), 1990s (13 percent), 1980s (14 percent) and the 1970s (12 percent). People of all stripes are in agreement on this one. The 70s had classic rock and disco, the 80s had pop and new wave, the 90s had hip hop, alternative rock and grunge but starting around the turn of the century, Americans seem to feel music has hit a rough patch. Many people are predisposed to feel nostalgia for the music and songs of their youth, but by a wide margin, even today's younger set feels that this decade's music is the worst.
80s > 90s but I agree, if you chose the 90s you need to try harder.I'm pretty sure the only correct answer is the 80s, unless you're on cocaine which makes the 80s the best ever.
Tupac? Biggie? Pearl Jam? NINE INCH EFFING NAILS?! If you chose the 90's, try harder.
Signed, biased guy that grew up in the 90s.
Plus Nirvana, STP, Alice in Chains, GnR Use your illusion 1&2, PANTERA, Limp Bizkit ($3 bill yall only), Soundgarden, Rage, Incubus, hoobastank, And the beginning of System of a down.I'm pretty sure the only correct answer is the 80s, unless you're on cocaine which makes the 80s the best ever.

I think so as well. There's better music so far this decade than the 2000's.
90's garage punk rock (gunk punk) and power pop/pop-punk were pretty on point, and kind of made it the second-best punk decade, IMO.Music from the 90's:I was thinking more of acts like Orbital, Daft Punk, Armand Van Helden, Moloko, Masters At Work, etc.But I don't like grunge music. - some great albums at the end of the hair band era
- heavy metal at its peak (Megadeth's Rust in Peace, Metallica's last great album, etc.)
- grunge
- hard core rap at its peak (Dre, Snoop, Tupac, Biggie, etc.)
- hip hop at its peak
- country still hadn't gone all the way pop
- Rage Against The Machine
- Green Day
- Sublime
- 90's alternative
Joy Division & New OrderEverything sucked in the 80's.
You can add to that:Metallica Ride the Lightning & Master of PuppetsJoy Division & New OrderEverything sucked in the 80's.
The Cure
Talking Heads & David Byrne
The Pixies
Springsteen (not a fan, but I recognize the quality in songwriting and performance)
The Police
Public Enemy
These are just off the top of my head. 95% of the stuff that got massive airplay and MTV exposure in the 80s sucked, so it rightly gets a real bad rap. But the "underground" was alive and quite good.
Try again.Chose 60s. Mostly bad music until the last few years.
And yet six others agree with him. Must be rebellious kids whose parents listen to '60s music.Wow....Chose 60s. Mostly bad music until the last few years.
This is thee right answer. And conveniently, one of the top selling artists if the 90's has added fiddle and pedal steel and is now one of the top selling artists in country music.90's/Country
There was time I would have said 80's, but I think nostalgia and remembering my high school days have made that decade more appealing now than when I actually lived it. 90's to me is still a waste land of music.
I went with country not because I don't like it, but it seems to be getting much closer to rock and top 40. Sometimes a country hit sounds more like pop/rock to me. Just because the singer has a southern accent doesn't make it "country".
I think you have to dig deep into the 90's to appreciate what was going on underground. It really was the last underground decade. You can't depend on radio, as radio was a dying format. This is thee right answer.
