Which Round 1/2 Drafting Strategy Won In Your League? (1 Viewer)

I was interested to see what were the Round 1/2 picks of the re-draft teams that won championships...did they go RB/RB in the first two rounds? RB/WR? RB/QB? etc...

10 team re-draft league...basic scoring (no PPR)...snake draft...

Championship Team (my team) drafted:

Round 1 - RB: Rudi Johnson

Round 2 - QB: Peyton Manning

11th pick went RB-RB. Portis and McGahee. He then went Gore in Rd 3 so he was pretty stacked.Redraft ppr .5 for RB, 1 for WR and 1.5 for TE

1.11 Steven Jackson

2.2 Willie Parker

I had a HUGE week 17, won both the league's week 17 Superbowl and took the total points championship by 2 points.  :excited: :goodposting: :nerd:

I won in one of my leagues picking Steven Jackson and Rudi Johnson.

It seems to me that most of the teams that did really well in my leagues either had Tomlinson as an early pick or were helped by guys like Steven Jackson, Frank Gore, Ladell Betts or MJD.

What I take from this is you do not want to make a wrong pick in round 1 and 2 but what really made a big difference this year was getting a guy like Gore, Betts or MJD later in the draft.

Carson Palmer (Cincy homer)

Clinton Portis

(3. Gates)

Won his very weak division, then pulled out two straight upsets. Ended up with RBs Dayne, DFoster, and Pinner. Crazy.

In my 10-team, HP, low $$ league, I won with Rudi/Sjax, and Marvin in the 3rd.

8 team league, 2 teams tied for the championship. 17 weeks HTH league both teams finished 11-6.

LJ, Boldin, R Moss, mcNabb,...., BAL

P Manning, S Smith, L Jordan, J Jones,... CHI

Looks like defense wins championships

12-team redraft, TD-heavy, no PPR. The winner went:

1.3 RB Tomlinson

2.10 WR C. Johnson

He then grabbed Gore in the 3rd, Wayne in the 4th, Brees in the 14th, and MJD in the 22nd.

Ten team re-draft

1.6 S Jackson

2.5 Portis - picked up Betts early season waiver wire

3.6 R Moss - traded with Maroney for Drew Brees

12 team PPR (1st pick)

LJ

TO

10 team standard (3rd pick)

LT2

Palmer

8 team TD heavy (8th pick)

Ronnie Brown

LeMont Jordan

Playoff Champions

14 teams / SuperFlex / PPR for WR (Pick 14)

1. Steve Smith

2. Chad Johnson

Didn't get a RB until round 5 (Gore)

12 teams / Superflex / PPR for WR (Pick 9)

1. Peyton Manning

2. Clinton Portis (snagged Betts on waivers midway through season)

Regular Season Champions

14 teams / SuperFlex / PPR for WR (Pick 2)

1. LT2

2. Kevin Jones

Also picked RB in round 3 (Dunn), pretty much an opposite strategy to the above SB champion.

12 teams / Superflex / PPR for WR (Pick 3)

1. Shaun Alexander

2. Willie Parker

Picked Wayne & Housh in round 3/4, then waited on a QB and got Rivers & VY

Money league:

12 man non ppr

1.01 SA

2.12 Fitz

I picked some under the radar players in later rounds :goodposting:

Oh, 2nd highest scoring by 8pts too.

ESPN non money league:

12 man, odd scoring, non ppr

1.08 SJax

2.05 Fitz

3.08 Chambers

4.05 Ahman Green

I was auto drafted the first 5 rounds since I was late lol. Although I did have Sjax selected as my auto pick.

2nd highest in points, avg 102 pts per game. #1 highest team averaged 104 ppg.

I won a ten team redraft this year. Drafted #1. My top 2 picks were:

1. Larry Johnson

2. Willie Parker

But to be honest, for the championship game itself I swapped out FWP vs. BAL for Maurice Jones-Drew vs. NE, who I had drafted in the 18th round. But LJ and FWP got me there.

The guy who beat me in the championship had:1:01 LT22.12 Marvin Harrison3.01 Donovan McNabb (this hurt but didn't kill him)Plus: he snagged Drew-Jones late in the draft. He beat me by 10 pts in the championship game (LJ and Kevin Jones were my first two picks, plus I grabbed Gore in the 4th).

ppr

3rd - lt2, and harrison

9th - Edge and Kevin Jones

1st - Lt2 - harrison

non ppr

11th steve smith and willie parker

.5 ppr for rb/ 1 ppr for wr

5th - S. Jackson and Rudi

6th - S. Jackson and Willie Parker

7th - R. Brown - Harrison

Round 1 - Edge

Round 2 - Portis

Round 3 - Chris Chambers

And I still made it to the Championship game (which ended in a tie).

Round 4 - Roy Williams (traded for M Harrison)

Round 5 - Todd Heap

Round 6 - Gore (Steal of the draft!)

Round 7 - Bulger

This was one of the crappiest drafts I have ever had! In the end, it worked out with some help from my friends at FBGs and here in the Shark Pool!

Reading thru these threads, it sure seems like the 1st and 2nd rounders "didn't matter", unless you landed LT2. I say "didn't matter" because these had to be reasonably solid choices - it is just as apparent that a million teams with these solid choices didn't win their leagues.

The vast majority of the teams above landed Gore and/or MJD and/or Brees at some late stage of the draft. THAT is what won the league for them.

10 team keep 3

Team kept Palmer, Barber, Heap

drafted

1. Harrison

2. Brady

3. Andre Johnson

4 T Jones

5. F Taylor

then 3 wr's (Evans, R.Brown,Bruce), his 4th RB was Tj Duckett.

he picked up MJD after week 1 and that was his only ww move he used.

This was his first draft and first year playing. Started 1 - 6 and never lost another game including the Superbowl.

--even took hi points for wk 17

10 team, TD heavy (1 pt per 20 rush/rec or 50 pass)

1.09 Steven Jackson

2.02 Chad Johnson

KJones, Gates, Gore, Driver, Coles, Evans later. QBBC (Warner, then Kitna). 15% higher overall points than 2nd.

ETA: 2nd started 7th Manning/Caddy, other semis were 3rd LT/Brady and 10th Rudi/SSmith. 3 teams started RB/RB (1 made playoffs).

Yep. You win from 3-7. Its about depth. Like my first 2 picks listed above was SA and Fitz. I also drafted Brees, Gore, Bell, Walker, Green, Coles, Fred Taylor, Gates & traded leftwich and SA for Peyton and turner.

Did RB, WR in 2 leagues and won em both. 12 team redrafts

1.1 - LT

2.12 - Marvin

3.1 - Chad

league 2

1.10 - Sjax

2nd - Holt

3rd - Westbrook (people were scared to take him....I loved it)

No Gore, MJD, or Brees for me. I won in a 14 team standard scoring league with this draft:1.10 Ronnie Brown2.5 Torry Holt3.10 Reggie Bush4.5 Reggie Wayne5.10 Todd Heap6.5 Thomas Jones7.10 Michael Vick...I traded Wayne & Jones away for Rudi mid-season, and also pulled off a trade for Owens when he got hurt. And I picked up Romo and Mark Clayton as free agents. (Romo actually hurt me, though, as I proceeded to start the lower scoring QB between him and Vick for 7 weeks in a row down the stretch.) And I got lucky.

12 Team Redraft, NO PPR - I picked 8th

Rudi

Manning

Gore

Driver

Heap/Cooley (8th rd.)

Furrey (off WW)

Swapped out K's at the end & had the 3 D's that played Oakland during my playoffs (picked off WW for that reason only)

Won 3 leagues. All 12 teams. All PPR

League 1

1.03 Alexander

2.10 R. Moss

League 2

1.04 Portis

2.09 C. Johnson

League 3

1.07 Portis

2.06 Westbrook

The main league: 16 team, 1 year holdover, then redraft. 20 years old. Fresh draft. Winners draft...

1.01 Shaun Alexander

2.16 Deshaun Foster

3.16 Reggie Wayne

No ppr. IDP.

8 team TD heavy (8th pick)

LeMont Jordan
Aw c'mon...
Honestly.8 year league with probably 6 good, experienced ff players. One or two guys are fish. 5 people have been in the league since day one.

Here's my entire draft for that team. It was awful

1.08 - Ronnie Brown

2.01 - LeMont Jordan

3.08 - Chris Chambers

4.01 - Larry Fitzgerald

5.08 - Bears D/ST

6.01 - Javon Walker

7.08 - Donovan McNabb

8.01 - Chester Taylor

9.08 - Ben Watson

10.01 - Frank Gore

11.08 - Michael Clayton

12.01 - Matt Jones

13.08 - Jeff Wilkins

14.01 - Tatum Bell

My starting lineup for the championship game, week 16, was

Ben Rothlesberger

Ladell Betts

Frank Gore

Javon Walker

Larry Fitzgerald

Chris Cooley

Jeff Wilkins

Bears D/ST

I won my main league by drafting...

1st - RB - Steven Jackson

2nd - RB - Willie Parker

3rd - RB - Kevin Jones

PPR, re-draft format:I won with:1. LT and 2. Chad JohnsonBut, I really won b/c I had Gore (4) and Driver (5). They saved my bacon when Chad struggled and Fitzgerals (3) got hurt. I ended up trading Fitz and T. Jones (6) for Carson Palmer mid-season.With the predominance of RBBC and our PPR format, I'd consider doing RB/WR again. I almost went LT/FWP...would have been even better.

Winner: 1.02 Peyton Manning, 2.09 Willie Parker

Runnerup: 1.07 Stephen Jackson, 2.04 Lamont Jordan
